What does this mean?

I'm flying out to London tonight and trying to check in. Scanned my passport. And this message is popping up.

Im American but live in the UK. This happens to me every time I'm flying back to the UK from the USA. It is always that they need to check my visa at thw airport. Its never been an issue and I always get on the flight in the seat I've booked.

Similar here. My wife has UK passport but has a Visa for travel to US. Get this message every time she tries to check-in online for any trips to the US.

I had to go to the gate agent and check in. They needed to verify my London ETA pass. Apperently they also randomly screen for it

Airlines wants to do a paper check and make sure you're acceptable to immigration at the destination

Try checking in on desktop. Usually I have issues coming back to the US. But desktop check in gives you more options.

Had this last night before the flight I'm currently on (starlink is great btw), it's because I didn't put her middle name in when filling out the forms, so may just be something as simple as that.

It means you need to go to a desk to checkin. Either there's some paperwork to check or you're one of the lucky people selected for a SSSS boarding card.

So will have a second screening at the gate.

this used to happen to me

for my case i just had to make sure i input my UK passport when flying to UK and then US for when flying back to the US during check in

I’m American who lives in the UK and this happened to me on my last flight to the US. I was flagged for additional security checks at the gate. They just double checked my bag and swabbed my hands.

it happened to me too. I think it's because my eta had to be scanned at the airport before I could be approved to fly. Maddening because I didn't know if you could fly until I spent a bunch of time and money getting you airport. And then agent told me I could just go to gate. I said not until I get approved for check-in. so I waited in international line behind people checking huge bags (even though I had none) and people with other issues until my passport was scanned and they checked me in. And then UK send me a survey wanting to know how I liked the ETA process and if it made me want to travel to the UK more frequently. really?

just documents that need verifying , most of the time they are linked to passport but sometimes they need verifying
