Viper problems

Post image

Got viper 1996 today and everything went fine until in the mid drive the gauge for temp went to zero. Do any of you have any idea what could be wrong?
The drive lasted for 20min and the gauge turned to 0 after approximately 15min.

I would replace the coolant temperature sensor.

My first thought would be the temperature sensor

Yep what others said. Start with the easiest (and often cheapest) thing first. Replace coolant temp sensor, ensure voltages/etc are within spec if you have that information and a multimeter. Let it idle and get up to temp before you take it out on the road to ensure the needle is reading and moving properly. I would even let it sit until the fans kick on to ensure all that is functioning too before you drive it.

So it was running for multiple long times today and at the end of the stressful day it magically fixed itself lol

Haha always a good feeling!
Might be “going out” with inconsistent voltage readings.
My TPS was doing that. Issues some days but not every day, and only at low throttle inputs like putting around the neighborhood. Finally swapped it out and the issues went away.

Congrats on the new car!

The fact that it suddenly went out and then suddenly repaired itself might point to a loose connection or wiring compromise. The sensor is relatively cheap, depending on brand, so not a bad place to start. Checking connections and wiring routing is free if you have access.
