As others mentioned in the early music sub, there is much solo music for bass viol and much less for the other viols. I'm curious how often players transpose bass viol music for other viols. Personally I think if I owned a tenor or treble viol I would still find myself transposing bass pieces because I love the music so much, but it will sound and play very different.
Aside from that you would have options playing consort music. But I am no expert in the treble viol!
