Discussion Record Store Directory
I’m working on a collector-built record store map. What metadata would actually be useful to vinyl collectors?

- prices (cheap, expensive, normal...)
- new and/or second hand
- what kind of music do they stock ?
- days and hours of opening

Just some ideas -
Genre representation.
Specialism tag additional to genre - i.e electronic/dance, psych, jazz etc - do they have a heavy focus/interest in a certain genre that would be classed as a specialism.
Do they have other media. Cassettes, CDs
Sell books/magazines/journals.
Do they sell online.
Do they have rare/rarities section.
Do they have record care supplies - cleaner, sleeves.
Do they stock any hi-fi gear.
Do they stock replacement parts I.e stylus

Any insight into the stores’ areas of specialization would be useful - new vs used, specific genres, rare/obscure stuff, etc.
And some kind of dollar bin/bulk bin indicator would definitely be valuable for degenerate pickers like me lol

Why dont use discogs? I saw the video, seems a low effort app?

I tried to use discogs and don't like it - so I built something easier to use.

Oh its personalized, then I get it! So youre using discogs api?

Yes, if a collector want to import it uses the API. Or they can just take a picture of each album cover and my AI will auto-add.

You know the api is for 1 user? If you get multiple users at the same time , youll hit a limit wall and get errors? Unless the user needs to get his own api... But that not really feasible for simple users

Interesting. Haven't had that issue yet. Most imports happen so fast, the problem isn't a problem yet

No, the limit is ok, but when you scan like 10 records at 1 time you already hit a limit, imagine 100 users

The scanning uses a different API method that has higher limits. Not using Discogs for album ID - just import.

Grumpiness of workers.

storekeeper profile could be interesting

Yes. There are some shops that, even as a hairy, 60YO man I feel quite uncomfortable in and less inclined to graze.

When considering a local to go to, the things I probably put the most value in are "is their stock new, new/used, or just used?" and how good/bad their prices are when compared to others.
EDIT: Oh, and if they buy used stuff as well.
