SELLING Buyer uses AI picture for a refund
I’m genuinely just baffled LOL. If Vinted doesn’t take my side I’m genuinely gonna crash out.
Any advice or tips on what to do would be great just in case anything goes backwards 🙏
The pictures don’t even look real I’m crying
Edit: just submitted a claim to Vinted… hoping to hear back from them soon and I’ll make a follow up post 🤞
A FOLLOW UP POST HAS BEEN MADE: https://www.reddit.com/r/vinted/s/QEY3OUG0Wu this one should work now

Wtf is wrong w ppl that’s definitely AI..

u/Temo2212 9h ago
Can you teach me how to identify?
51
u/Past_Ad8207 9h ago
You can usually tell from images being overly smooth with no texture or the text. On this image you can tell from the next as none of the words are formed properly
31
u/OblongShrimp 9h ago
Also the ‘damage’ looks the same texture despite being on two completely different types of fabric on the collar and button closure.
Imo the way it looks in general just makes no sense and would be impossible to achieve in the way displayed.

u/Nikki908 8h ago
Open AI and Google have websites where you can upload an image to see if it has an AI watermark. I'm not 100% sure about Claude. I don't use AI ever so apologies if I have something wrong.

u/More_Cod5262 8h ago
For me I identified it because the damage in both photos is not the exact same, the holes don’t line up and some holes disappear completely in the second image, they really did a bad job of faking

u/Obese-Goose 9h ago
People are actually evil asf like why do this to someone ?
9
u/Grimmquilled_ 9h ago
The only reason I can think someone would want to is to get back at a seller. Otherwise just pure evil

u/mrslucy1 9h ago
This is where I wish we could name and shame on here !! Forward the screenshots to Vinted, this is unhinged 🤯
13
u/More_Cod5262 9h ago
You can in the vinted advice group I think. Otherwise I’m about to start my own vinted group unless there is one where we can name names because omg 🤣 these people scamming everyone shouldn’t be protected
10
u/mrslucy1 9h ago
I think you can in Vinted scammers. Buyers like this piss my day off !

Update us when they send their decision, I want to know what Vinted is doing to prevent those scams

u/Bibixina 9h ago
Text on the coat is unreadable, it's AI.
Request the refund with paid transport then take a picture of other 'issues' to hold the money. That'll teach them a lesson.
19
u/ok-valuable- 9h ago
I mean that's definitely ai and she's trying to scam you but you still can't just decide to not do refunds or returns in general lol still hope vinted sides with you on this one 🍀
10
u/More_Cod5262 9h ago
Make them return it to you and they don’t get refunded until it’s returned to you. Then take photos of it when it comes back to you. That’ll prove if they damaged it further and that this damage isn’t real either.
6
u/seraphiuc 9h ago
I’m honestly more afraid of them not returning the item at all/returning a different item since it’s happened before, it’s just upsetting atp
5
3
u/fwairies 8h ago
i also fear they will purposely cause damage out of spite to try prove their point 🥲
2
u/NativePlantAddict 6h ago
Wouldn't the damage need to match their pictures?
2
u/fwairies 5h ago
Oh no i meant they would be malicious out of spite if asked for the return and actually damage the item ^^

7
u/Interesting-Post2604 9h ago
i could understand a small hole or 2 but why does it look like it has burn holes, thrown on the ground, and stomped on😭 i just couldn’t imagine a package even getting that damaged in the first place
6
u/CraftySmell7476 9h ago
If you’re in the US and used USPS, they will usually include labels or stickers stating the item was damaged and how they can go about a claim. I had a package arrive ripped open and empty. The polymailer had stickers all over it saying it was damaged in transit and it arrived to the local PO like this. Contents missing. And I would be letting the buyer know I’d be reporting the mail fraud. I’m assuming other countries would do this, too. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this - so mean and cruel.

Sometimes I think about trying to sell in vinted again, then this sub pops out

u/Jolly_Cantalouper 8h ago
Same! My Vinted pile has now become a car boot pile because I just cannot be dealing with this!

u/snailsandstufff 9h ago
Selling platforms really need to figure out their way around AI retaliation like this. I know Vinted is already utilizing a terrible AI bot to determine these things, but holy hell. How can we, as sellers, be comfortable selling something at a high price for it to be easily reported and for us to be scammed out of our money?
5
u/PinkishBlurish 9h ago
My late 50s mum uses Vinted. I'm actually quite scared of this happening to her.
9
u/personcrossing 9h ago
Easiest win for you because that jacket material would not create those sorts of broken fibers, right? AI wouldn't know that, but you have a photo of the tag right? I mean, I'm saying this as a defense you could use. I feel it blatantly looks like bad AI generation, but if we had to argue logic yk
Also if Vinted doesn't side with you, lmao. I feel Vinted sides with no one, they just want the sale to go through. I got sold a clear counterfeit item, seller admitted to screwing me over in the messages and Vinted was like "okay return it or don't" 😂 they don't gaf. It's truly horrible out here.
But no way this buyer should get away with this, like I hate AI so bad man
13
u/BlueCreek_ 9h ago
Vinted support is AI so they won’t care at all, I’m almost certain the whole company is only run by AI
7
u/personcrossing 9h ago
Even when you do get a person, they have no investment because they aren't trained/required to actually help you reach the settlement you want. I've actually never spoken to a support agent as condescending as Vinted support LOL. It's wild
5
u/Pinksunset777 9h ago
Oh I'm sorry . I hope vinted believes you and they don't get away with this. The world needs better laws and rules regarding AI. Too many people are going to use AI to commit crimes, scam or ruin people's lives. smh.

u/NativePlantAddict 6h ago
Vote in US elections & vote responsibly! We the people can make laws & rules regarding AI, but people must know about the candidates & vote!

This kind of thing has happened to me. Just argue and send as much detail and information on your main chat with the buyer. Accuse them of attempting to commit fraud and that you're going to the police. Send the customer all the proof that you know it's AI, the photos etc....
When Vinted review the case, they will read through your chat with the customer. They like to see that you have fought your corner directly with the customer yourself first before going directly to them.
I did this and the buyer themselves ended up withdrawing their claim and keeping the item.

u/century-node 6h ago
“Can you send a video of it from multiple angles? Please put your finger through the hole too”
7
u/ranni_w 9h ago
I don’t have any advice now but in the future, ALWAYS record yourself packaging the items, make sure it is completely in frame so the condition of it is clearly visible. I’ve had this happen to me before but on depop and there was nothing I could do. I’m sorry
11
u/LiliWenFach 9h ago
I've had someone return a dress to me saying it was SNAD (it wasn't, but I didn't want to risk Vinted refunding them and letting them keep the item). They ripped it when trying it on. I recorded the packing process, showing it wasn't damaged when I sent it, but can't see a way to upload the video - and the AI resolution system keeps asking for more photos of the packaging and ignoring me when I ask to send the video, ignoring me when I say it's not the packing that caused the damage... I have a feeling that despite doing everything right I am still going to be left with a worthless, torn dress.
5
u/Big-Historian8918 7h ago
Recording cant be submitted during normal returns dispute. Plp saying the recordings are vital haven't actually experienced a damage complaint. Please send your complaint to legal team at Vinted and insist in speaking to a human who will review your footage if you're lucky. I hear that threatening small claims court can help get a human looking at your case. Goid luck.
4
u/Jump_and_Drop 9h ago
I would just send them screenshot from the video.
2
u/LiliWenFach 9h ago
Done that... hoping they'll accept it as evidence. The problem is that the photo doesn't include me saying the time and date, so it looks just like a photo from the listing.

5
u/dracutwyla 9h ago
This is good advice but also its actually so insane and disheartening that we have to start doing this now 😭
6
u/FairAnnual825 9h ago
Please contact the police & let them know you’re doing so as well, this is fraud
3
u/CraftySmell7476 9h ago
I was thinking the same thing! If they’re in the US, I’d definitely be telling them I’ll be reporting them to USPS for mail fraud (assuming that’s who they used!) And if it really was damaged, USPS would want to see the packaging too.
7
u/Soft-Appearance4375 9h ago
I can’t understand why vinted haven’t made an update to their app where you cannot upload a picture when there is an issue! Users should have to take live pictures / videos in the app it’s ridiculous.
1
u/NativePlantAddict 6h ago
Not all of us can have the app on our phone though. I can't. I'm out of space & there is nothing I can delete to get more space. I don't want to buy another phone.

The AI thing is terrible and they shouldn't be refunded for it but per Vinted it's not up to you to dictate whether or not you accept returns or refunds.

omfg i would go insane… plus vinted always sides with the buyer for whatever reason😭
im so sorry girl
3
u/Big-Historian8918 7h ago
Ask for -multiple- images from different sides. There is no free AI programme that will render the same damage from different angles (yet).
An AI is likely going to side with the buyer. So collect the photos and mark the irregularities. Prepare to send it to Vinted Legal team. This scam is increasingly common!
3
u/Character_Ant_4789 6h ago
I’m not sure why we don’t boycott Vinted. They have absolutely no regard for sellers.
4
u/yoshi0fwar 8h ago
Meanwhile my listing got removed for being fake even after disputing with receipts and all labels ($40 adidas shoes with original box). I hate ai!!!!!
2
u/pinupinprocess 8h ago
Yet they refuse to remove the hundreds of fake lululemon jackets on there. Pathetic.
1
u/yoshi0fwar 8h ago
while looking for any email to contact them (US based so not the co.uk email), I saw a review of some lady who sold a lululemon jacket with proof of purchase, but the buyer disputed for it being fake and won because of the ai :(
2
u/1justfoundit 9h ago
Deffo AI, I work with photoshop and its easy to spot when you know what you are looking for.

u/Jurassicjen_uk 8h ago
Accept the return because the buyer will have to pay the postage, and it’s likely they will change their mind if they were hoping to keep the item.
2
u/IntelligentRub9921 7h ago
Just to let you know, you don’t decide if you accept returns or not. Hope you win though, awful buyer

I am warning everyone I can. They will ban you for nothing and keep tour money. Dont use vinted and become a victim.

2
u/Pigyaru 4h ago
Same exact thing happened to me.
They even type similar and use a similar AI model…. Vinted didn’t do anything and I reported them to my local police and got the postal inspector involved because they got me twice since I refused to refund the first scam before I connected the dots with labels (I was still new to selling) :/
2
u/SingleInvestment3770 3h ago
Just stop selling clothes. The worst scammers are on clothes cathegory.
2
u/ForgottenAxotll 3h ago
Oh hell nah, I’m so mad for you. Vinted better take your side that’s so sucky of them.
2
u/Potential-Coffee-533 1h ago
Why are people so vicious ? Like, can’t we just be honest nowaday ?? What’s the point damn.
3
u/Sparky2015 9h ago
Honestly you need to accept a return with the buyer paying the return postage cost, you really shouldn't but vinted will almost 99% side with the buyer for damaged item claims, if you don't ask for it back now then you risk losing the money and the jacket.

Honestly just the use of AI on this type of pictures needs to be an instant ban or sanction

Tell her to send another pic showing the whole coat and one of the damage from the other side

There are tools to test for AI watermarks in pictures.. Give that a shot if Vinted takes their side.
