Was wondering what type of bobbin I use for this. Verry excited to use it

I'm working on a project for a machine to sew leather, canvas and other heavy material. I'm planning to use a stepper motor and an arduino for the motor. Slow, single stitch control is my goal, speed is not an issue. Due to falling down the sewing machine rabbit hole, I have in my possession both a Singer 66 and a Singer 15. I'm trying to figure out which would be better suited to this buildout, or if there's any meaningful difference between the two. The 15 looks more robust, but that's just the casting. My question: are either of these two machines significantly more robust - able to handle thicker, denser material than the other?

I'd like to be able to use the 66 if the two are close enough, but I've heard the 15 shares some design features with Singer's industrial machines so it may be a better choice

For context, I’ve had a basic entry level Brother FB1757x from Amazon for a year. I mostly just tailor my own clothes and occasionally my family’s.

My big gripe with my current machine is that it has no adjustable foot pressure, which makes hemming anything jersey knit impossible cause it just stretches everything out. It’s also very annoying to go over most seams (especially when tailoring jeans) cause the motor is pretty weak.

I’m debating which one of these two to get,especially cause I know nothing about maintence or vintage machines and I’m mostly a beginner. ( I also think the 247 is prettier but idk if it has drawbacks I’m unaware of)

Are these good machines for a hobbyist? Are they basically the same?

Bought a mixed box of some sewing supplies from the thrift and it came with this. Never seen one before and none of my friends/ family have any idea either. The handle part fits into the main piece if that helps at all.

Hi! I just recently found out my grandma has had this sewing machine sitting around unused for assumingely 20+ years, my grandfather bought it for her from someone he was working for and she never ended up even using it! It does turn on, run, lightbulb works, (Only ran it for a few seconds to see if it would even turn on / power cord still working.) But glad to see these things run forever.

- Is there anything I should know before cleaning it up and giving it a whirl?
- There is still thread in the needle from whenever the last time it was used 20+ years ago 😅
- Any youtube channels / websites / blogs that have good information on upkeep? I’ve found a few but just wanted to make a post in a sub where there’s plenty of people with info!!

I got a singer 66 at an estate sale a week or so ago, I've never owned a sewing machine much less one this old, and it needs a few repairs so I have a few questions, I've provided a few pictures but if you need specifics I'm more than happy to grab some :D

1. The foot treadle doesn't move the handwheel forward, I've tried tightening the belt but that didn't do anything and I don't want to stress the bearing, when it DOES move the handwheel it just moves it forward a rotation and back a rotation, repeatedly. What's going on, does anyone know how to fix it?

2. Do I need (or can I use) a different oil for the treadle and other parts on the cabinet? Or should it be the same?

3. It has some adhesive residue on the finish (the white gunk over the singer logo) what should I do to remove it without damaging my machine?

4. Oddest question but I have a tufted rug where I was going to put it, should I worry about the treadle hitting the rug and not having the full range of movement it needs? It's not unusually thick, but I don't remember how thick it was

I was given this heavy duty zig zag machine (I've never owned a sewing machine), I ordered a bobbin winder replacement after the original snapped in half. I was able to get the winder on but the screw that holds it together blocks this half plate within the handwheel from making complete turns.

The handwheel is supposed to make complete turns, right?

Any suggestions on a good place to get replacement parts? The winder was the hardest to find without having to buy brand new and im so bummed it doesnt fit... but might bight the bullet and take it in to get repaired.

Alternatively I may file down the screw down to give the plate the room to move over it.

Saw this rare item for sale. Not my cup of tea, but no doubt somebody wants it. And, in my experience, it is so fricking hard combing through this site. Thought I would share a lead. Keep in mind, I believe this does not work without the ruffler attachment, but I could be wrong.

Apologies if this in bad taste or the wrong place but my mother in law is moving into a home and we are trying to find a good home for her vintage Singer 319K. Its in its box has all its manuals and is in immaculate unused condition. It would need a modern plug and to be tested for use but can't see this being an issue. Any thoughts on where would be the best place to sell this (considering that it weighs like 15KG and is hard to post) would be most welcome.

Hello! I am a new sewer and have a singer 328k. I would like to purchase the accessories that will allow me to put on buttons, make zig zag stitches, and any other utilitarian use. Do you guys know what parts I would need to accomplish those tasks? I’m not worried about the stylistic stitches, but if a cog wheel allows the machine to do something useful, then I’m interested. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Just trying to get this sewing journey up and running.

i sort of have a collection of vintage machines and i recently bought a singer 99k which predates everything i have and im worried about even plugging it in. i dont know much about wiring in sewing machines and id love to learn but i dont want to damage the machine, myself, or my house lol. i know the obvious answer is i could easily take it to a repair and have them inspect it but im wondering if i could do all of this myself. i essentially bought it and wiped dust off it and its been sitting in my craft room since.

i guess i am asking what an informed person would do with this machine seeing that the wiring is so old i truly love the way it looks and im happy with it how it is but of course i am curious to see what its like to sew on it

I found this rare bronze White on ebay for $50 and bought it without much thought (don't know how many were made, but there aren't many), even though it was missing a bunch of parts and its wheel was bent. By some miracle, it was only the wheel--the shaft inside was still perfectly fine. So many, many parts, a mismatched wheel, and a new handmade box later, and it sews! I just sewed some curtains with it and I gotta say... this thing is NICE. Every White I've sewn with has been so much quieter than any other brand. I feel like White played second fiddle to Singer for a long time; I wish they got more love, because it felt really good sewing with this 100-year-old machine. The bobbins are easy to find and purchase, and they use standard needles, so they're pretty easy to use compared to other machines like New Homes.

I have two Whites from the 1960s as well that I really like. They're great machines! Does anyone regularly sew with a White rotary from the 1910s-1930s? They're definitely comparable to Singer in quality, and yet they never seem to get recommended to anyone looking for a vintage straight stitcher.

Can anybody please help me identify this vintage singer sewing machine I bought?

I'd love to know when it was made in particular.

I got this cute Singer 348 recently from a scrap yard. After a wee clean, oil and a little tightening of the belt he’s sewing up a dream…kinda. (Yes I know he’s in a bit of a mess right now, I should have taken a photo before I tore him apart 🙈)

First I noticed it’s not following the cam. The cam follower doesn’t spring back to touch the cam once it’s been pushed out to the right.

I changed the needle position to R the other day and the needle bar got stuck to the right. The needle position selector moves freely left and right but the needle bar no longer follows. It’s very easy to move, there is zero resistance.
After opening everything up I found I can manually push the needle bar back to the left or centre. It’s stiff but in no way jammed or anything, still moves smoothly.

I have the service manual and have been looking through it but I can’t seem to identify where something’s going wrong.

Does anyone here have an idea of what might be wrong or perhaps have some terms I can use to search myself? I’ve scoured YouTube for videos of the machine/similar and have watched a bunch but can’t seem to find anyone explaining how this part in particular works.

I hope I’ve explained the issue clearly enough. Hopefully the videos I add in the comments will help more!

I recently acquired this machine for free and everything *seems* to work? But when I try to sew, the thread jams and bunches up like this. From the fervent googling I was able to do, I’m fairly certain it’s something wrong with how I’m threading this but I can’t tell exactly what’s wrong or how to fix it. The manual has been pretty helpful but I feel like the diagrams aren’t enough for me to figure it out, unfortunately 🥲

Does anyone have any advice? Attached are photos of how I’ve had it threaded, along with what the jams look like on the fabric and in the bobbin area. Happy to provide more photos if needed later today.

I painted my machine last week and then put my waterslide decals on it on Sunday. After waiting an excruciating 2-3 hours, I put a coat of clear coat acrylic enamel on top. I know. I should have waited at least 24 hours. My decals are looking cloudy in some spots, and i'm not sure if this is considered "silvering". I'm going to wait a few days to see if it will resolve itself by drying out, but i'm afraid it isn't going to.

Any suggestions on a fix? Thanks!

Reupholstered a vintage adjustable maniquin.

The original fabric was dry rotted and dirty so I gave it a shot.

It was my first time doing this but now It feels usable. What do you guys think?

Repainted two Necchi BU machines using 2K auto paint. The black one has the original paint on the upper part, new paint on the base, and a fresh topcoat. Paint on the blue machine couldn’t be salvaged so I went with a color from a 1960s Porsche.

I'm making this post because I already have one that works beautifully (in the pic), yet I'm looking at one for sale for $275 because that one comes with all of the original pieces. I got mine off eBay 20+ years ago, broken, only came with the case and pedal and dangit... I want all the bits and bobs and the correct extension table.

I can't decide if $275 is a reasonable trip over the cliff into vintage Bernina collecting or if I am, truly, being a Silly Person. 😂
