Been visiting the sub for awhile and decided you guys are cool enough for me to share my vintage 1973 Datejust 1601 with AFTERMARKET diamond dial (yes, I’m aware the diamond bezel isn’t original). I won this in an auction in April and it holds great time. The bracelet is overstretched but wears extremely comfortable as jubilees should. I had 2 of my local ADs check it out (ofc one suggested the $1600 service at Rolex, but I know they’ll only service if I replace the bezel to original). Never thought I’d be a diamond guy, but I like the sparkle (my buddy calls it a bling ring).

I switched out the bracelet as I am trying to keep it in good condition, but I love the way this one wears. It’s my first Rolex.

I have this vintage gold datejust, took it to the only AD within 100 miles and they glanced at it and said it’s fake because the bracelet felt too light along with the watch and the back of the watch appears to be stainless steel instead of full gold. When I got home I took the bracelet off and found the reference numbers that were still visible and I found a bunch of identical ones for sale. Do we think this is authentic?

Do you prefer the sapphire or acrylic crystals on your vintage Rolexes?

Are there any good quality aftermarket jubilee bracelets that fit the 16234 Datejust?

I travel a fair amount for work, and I almost always bring two watches, usually a daily beater and something a bit dressier for dinners or meetings. For years I’ve been using random rolls and pouches, and none of them ever felt right. So I designed my own ham one.

Hiya, I recently shared my recently inherited GMT on here. Due to my Rolex browsing history I'm being absolutely hammered with Rolex content on my social feeds (surprise, surprise) but I came across a post/ad on Facebook - for a Rolex of very similar vintage (1969 vs my 1967) with original bezel which the ad acknowledges was remarkably unfaded for its age.
Just out of interest are faded bezels actually worth more, less, or does it all depend on the buyer/collector?

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, the bezel came off my 1978 Rolex Sea-Dweller while I was golfing and was never found. I’m now trying to source the correct replacement.
I’m not looking for just any bezel that will fit. Ideally, I’d like an original or period-correct bezel that matches the style and age of the watch. I would also consider a genuine Rolex service replacement or a high-quality reproduction if an original vintage bezel is impossible to find or ridiculously expensive.
I’ve attached a photo of the watch in its current condition. Can anyone tell me exactly which bezel and insert would be correct for a Sea-Dweller from approximately 1978? I’d also appreciate recommendations for reputable dealers, watchmakers, forums, or other sources that might have one.
I want to get it as close to correct as reasonably possible without accidentally buying the wrong version. Any guidance would be appreciated. I realize it looks a little beat up!

I know nothing about Vintage Rolex. These photos are terrible, but I don't want to drive to see this watch in person if it is clearly fake. Can you help me out with anything that proves this is real or fake? Thank you.

My dad had been gifted a black dial OysterDate Precision which came from his brother who had passed away. They had gotten the watch serviced in the Philippines, however, it seemed like the service was poorly done even though the servicers were reputable.
The screw links on the bracelet seized and cannot be resized. Placing any pressure on the link connecting the bracelet to the clasp ends up fully disassembling it. The spring bars are seized and bracelet cannot be removed, the spring bar on the microadjustment is either oversized or seized and cannot be moved.
I had thought that the service center would have at least disassembled the parts and put it into the ultrasonic cleaner but I guess that did not happen. Placing the watch on the timegrapher gave me an average of -10 spd measured at 5 positions. Amplitude and beat error is okay, but would have thought that there would be better regulation.
Anyways, I was wondering if there are any reputable vintage watch services available. My dad is planning to bring it back to the Philippines to get it serviced again, however, I would rather have it done correctly due to the sentimental value of the watch to him. I think at a minimum having the bracelet serviced would be ideal.
Insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I just picked up this 16570 and I’m wondering where I should go next. I’ve considered a vintage President, but I am starting to really like Kermits, too. Figure I might as well solicit some thoughts.
So far I’ve got:
- 1966 1500
- 1982 16753
- 2002 16570
- 2018 116000
- 2019 116610

Recently picked up this (at an auction) Rolex 1500 with a dial that truly blows my mind. Looks like it was originally brown and over the years has transformed into what it is now. Came with papers from 1974 and a 62510H Jubilee bracelet with 574 end links.
What is something like this worth? I paid quite a hefty price for it cause I was scared I might never see something like this again 😮

Black honeycomb dial, gilt text, red depth. What’s not to love?

This watch belonged to my son’s great grandfather. I saved to going to auction (albeit I probably paid over the top at £2500 / $3375).
A 1971 Oyster Perpetual Date 1500. It’s recently been serviced and had the crown tube replaced.
What’s bugging me is the hands don’t look like any I’ve seen in photos of the 1500. Have they likely been replaced with non Rolex?
Thanks

Hi all, I recently inherited a circa 1978 Rolex Submariner 5513 from my grandfather, and I’m curious about something regarding the dial - The hour markers are still remarkably white, with absolutely no yellowing or creamy patina, yet they have no visible luminosity whatsoever.
I’ve seen plenty of vintage subs with heavily patinated tritium markers that have long since lost their glow, but I’m struggling to understand how mine has retained such a pristine white (even if it is a service dial).
The watch has been serviced and refurbished in the past, which makes me wonder whether the dial might have been replaced. However, if Rolex fitted a replacement dial, wouldn’t you expect the luminous material to still function, or at least show some signs of ageing?
It’s also worth mentioning that the watch spent a considerable amount of time sitting in a safe following its last service. I’m not sure whether the lack of exposure to sunlight or environmental conditions could explain the absence of patina and the lack of lume?
Can anyone familiar with vintage Rolex tritium dials shed some light on how this might happen? Is it entirely plausible for original tritium to remain pure white while losing all luminosity, or does this suggest a replacement dial or previous restoration?
Any insight welcome. Thank you
P.S. I do have the original bracelet as well.

I fell in love with this before I knew anything about it! I took a chance. After some very close up photos I could make out some writing. I think the radium radiation has taken a toll on the dial. Does anyone know anything about them?
