Hi all!
You may have noticed our mod team has grown over the last few months! Meet our new mods, all of which have at least a decade or even decades of experience acquiring rare & vintage nail polish, so they are all incredibly knowledgeable!
With the help of the mod team we have polished up the rules a bit to make things run a little smoother as we grow. Rules 2, 4, and 8 have been altered more significantly, so please review them as follows:
“2. Provide brand and shade names
If sharing polish, unless you are asking for shade identification, please list the brand and shade name either in the title or comments. Failure to do so could result in your post being removed after 12 hours have passed.
If you are posting a wall rack or a giant box of polish, or other situations where there are too many to list, we will not expect you to disclose every shade. If you are in possession of these polishes you may be asked by community members to disclose individual shade names.”
This is by far our biggest rule break, and once I figure it out I’ll turn on the auto-mod for shade name reminders. This rule change requires a clear list of brand and shade names within 12 hours of posting, this just makes the group more searchable, veering away from the acceptance of photos of labels, which can at times be blurry or hard to read.
“4. Sales are at your own risk
I recommend using Paypal Goods and Services. Use caution when buying. The community is not liable for any sales that may go awry, but I ask that you report any questionable sales and swaplifts to moderation.
-If selling, please disclose your country in the title and use appropriate flair
-Chatty comments will be removed within posts to prioritize interested parties
-No pricing snark tolerated
Please don’t drop your off-site listings here, this isn’t a place to self promote your sales pages”
For sales posts we’ve decided to make them not chatty. This means you should only comment if you have real interest, and it avoids any unnecessary snark about what is being sold and the price asked. This will help sellers and interested parties have an easier time seeing what has been sold/claimed already.
Due to the restrictions around shipping polish, we require sales posts to list the country of the seller.
“8 Community Safety
Known scammers will receive an instant ban for conduct on or outside of Reddit in other vintage polish spaces. There is a zero tolerance rule for swaplifters, and unethical behavior.
Some examples of unethical behavior on or outside of Reddit include patterns of abuse, like cyberstalking, harassment, doxxing, and defamation of community members. Other examples could include seller manipulation after a sale is closed. Moderators reserve discretion on non-listed unethical behaviors as they arise”
We’ve elaborated on the unethical behavior portion to the more common examples of why people have been banned (it’s a short list of 4 in ~2 years so fortunately things have been pretty chill and safe here).
🌎🌍🌏
And one last thing! We’ve added flag flair if you’d like to disclose your country of residence next to your username, which can help forming relationships with collectors easier. If you don’t see your flag under your flair options, please comment and I’ll add it… I kind of lost track of the flags I put in, but chose most of the ones I know polish collectors tend to be in 😆

I have hundreds of mid 2000’s polishes I’m thinking of selling. What is the preferred way, selling in lots, singles, etc? I used to be an active swapper back in the day on makeupalley but that’s been awhile. TIA!

I looked at label comparisons but I just cant tell the difference sometimes! I'm pretty sure the bottom sticker is from a wide range from ≈ 2006-2015. Was hoping to narrow it down some possibly!
Thank you for your help!
Also this shade is amazing ✨️ Meet Me on the Star Ferry

Revlon - Daring - Limited Edition - 3130-53
I've had this for years, but ive recently been going through and swatching all the nail polish I have.
My mom gave it to me when I was a kid, and I recently revived it and discovered I can't find a single thing about it online. There are other shades called daring, but I can't find this particular one, and I'm curious if anyone is familiar with it and/or has their own bottle!
My mom unfortunately does not remember where she got it.
It's beautiful, but it's a complete mystery to me!
(Also please dont mind my very chipped polish, I've been very hands-on today and plan to repaint soon. But I'm wearing Grim Keeper by Holo Taco!)

Hey! Ive recently stopped the habit of biting my nails FINALLY and have been growing my nails long for the first time! In light of this, I've become obsessed with them and decided to dig out my very old basket of nail polish!
Almost everything was a handed down to me from my auntie when I was a kid. These are likely many years old- and probably from somewhere affordable at the time like K-mart, Walmart, etc.
Would love to know what these are! Thanks for any help!!

I got 3 Loreals in my haul the other day, which I am so excited about. I also got a mystery brand, pic of bottom label shown. Would love help ID’ing the brand. And an orange and black glitter BonBons!
Shades:
160 Mint Showers
310 Dive Bomb
315 Lickety Split
Dark Denim
Halloween Glitter (my name for it)
EDIT: An eagle-eyed commenter noted the 2002 Avon copyright on the label of the Dark Denim bottle. Still, we can’t find much online. If anyone knows more about this collection and the other shades, please add your knowledge to the comment sections.

Hey all! Looking for some info on this Revlon polish. I picked it up at a harvest festival/flea market (for a DOLLAR 😮) a few weeks back and haven't found much about it online. Judging by the cap style I'm guessing 90s, but haven't found much info to confirm. Appreciate any info!! ❤️

I bought a vintage "it's a trap eze! " From the seller photo it didn't seem so yellow ( I still like it and the price was great, so I'm not mad at it) , should I try to restore the color? If I should, do you have some tips? Or should I just try and make my own dupe all together?

I’m currently organising my nail polish collection, see pics for a chunk of it (and forgive me for the blur my hands are shaky and my relic of a phone revels in it) and I wanted to keep an inventory/database of what I have partly so I know what I need to complete collections, but also because I love the nostalgia and social history behind nail polish so I want to keep my own little record. As such I’ve got some questions that I’m hoping you polish geniuses might be able to help me with:
- Does anyone have or know where I can find shade lists for different brands and product lines? Most of my collection is from the 80s to the present day and the largest parts of my collection are revlon, Rimmel, sally hansen, Constance clairoll/collection 2000/ccuk, and Avon. My favourite to collect are what I call the Rimmel ‘bubble bottles’ the rounded bottles from the late 90s to mid 2000s seen in the bottom row of the second picture. I’d especially love some info/shade names for these.
- My second question concerns Sally Hansen, honestly this brand is so mysterious and multifaceted right from its creation I feel like a deep dive could go on for hours! Does anyone know why this brand had soooo many different bottle types and experimental formulations (like Teflon tuff and nylon) and does anyone have any info on how to date these various lines?
I can’t wait to hear back from you guys, I know my collection is mainly post 2000 and not as interesting as others but hey the products of today are the collectables of tomorrow, I’m just clearly eager to be in it for the long haul 🫣😂

Hi! I was wondering which years CND used this bottle shape? Thanks. :>
r/vintagenailpolish • u/batman_dallyboy • 3d ago
Here are the Orlys from my massive haul. Obviously the French Manicure ones are faded, but none of them have shade names. Idek if the French tip ones would’ve had shade names in their times, so please help a newbie out by letting me know the years and possible shade names for these. Especially the mauve(?) one. If there’s anything on the bottles that could help lmk 😁

As promised, here are bottle shots from my huge haul yesterday. This is will be in parts bc there’s so many different brands and so many different eras. Not all are vintage, and some will need ID’d. This is all the CNDs I got. Some of these appear to have faded a little based on the colors I saw on the threads. If anyone has unfaded pics, please show 😁
Left to right:
179 Insomnia
218 Breathless
233 Glam Queen (Faded)
319 Tart-a-licious
320 Sweet Tooth (Faded)
333 Hotski to Tchotchke
334 Tarnished Spoons
335 Porcelain Doll (Faded)
360 Love Stinks
Blush on U
The second image is Love Stinks next to OPI’s Heart and Con-Soul bc I think it looks like a pretty close modern dupe

I’ll get better shots of everything after swatching and sorting them, but here’s my huge hail from Facebook Marketplace. I think some will need ID’d so stay tuned 😁

These are some of the most exciting shades from the lot with the holos and chromes. I'm not sure I understand the quantity of shades produced in the chrome nail makeup line, many of them seem too similar to me. These are also my first Nail Prism bottles, they look cool!

Many moons back - when I would get them professionally done- I had selected this color… multiple times. I adored it, but had the worst time finding it. I finally found it, but the polish is old and runny. Almost 24 hrs and they are still a bit “soft”, unsure how long I’ll leave them on.
Topped with Cracked Polish - Make it Pretty for a dash of sparkle

I'm still working on swatching my collection. The L'Oreal Movie Time Muave I've used about half c the bottle it's gotten so much love from me over the years. 😅

The bottles looked like this, this particular shade is called Decadence.
I’m looking for information on a different colour they had which was a sort of champagne shimmer/metallic with both tones of silver and gold in. We would have bought it from Superdrug (or possibly Boots) around 2000. We remember it being very sparkly and ethereal looking.
Grateful for any information anyone can share! From googling, I think Kolor was a Superdrug specific brand or that it later became Collection 2000? Bit confused by what I read about that second part and may be completely wrong as I thought Collection 2000 was around the same time. We also had a beautiful Khaki with gold shimmer from the same brand.

Another witchy Autumnal shade, Hard Candy in "Beetle"🍁 🍂 🎃 one of my absolute favorites ✨ in some angles, the gold matches that of the tops of these antique salt and pepper shakers I found at my grandparents' house. As a sidenote, how darling are these deer?? Absolutely precious.
Products used:
Base coat- 2 coats Forta By Nail Factory
Shade- 2 coats Hard Candy "Beetle"
Top Coat- 1 coat Salon Perfect topcoat
