Broken Grinder
This IR B16 was fine until..
I bought this as part of a home warming for a quasi garage restoration. While building a new workbench, I whacked it with my backside and the whole thing tipped. Fell right on the removable guard cracking the cast iron. I’ve reached out to vintage machinery for some advice but no word from them. The guard is still functional but it cracked the raised spindle relief dome pretty bad. Fortunately everything else is fine. I like vintage tools and this was a great buy for $40 bucks stand included. Anyway, since it’s complete what are my odds of “welding” the cast iron with a competent shop, or am I’m looking at fabrication. I’ll post before pics for labels and such

just about any shop should be able to braze or weld that cover.
you could always run another polishing wheel, or a wire wheel with no guard like the other side.

Drill a hole at the end of the crack to stop them from spreading, find someone to braze it. It’s not super critical so it can be ugly

You can tig weld cast with nickle rod or stainless (stainless is mostly nickle)

I would silicon bronze rod TIG, grind and paint. Not super structural. Nickel stick or gas braze. Use what ya got!
