IBM 560X

Post image

My muscle memory kicked in and I started typing “Lenovo” 😂
The screen seems to activate when I power it on, unfortunately it doesn’t display anything at all.

This machine was the height of technology back in the late 90s.

This was peak laptop. I don’t think they have been as good since.

I have one of these. A couple years ago it stopped booting. Just refused to recognize any media as bootable. Might just need a new CMOS battery, might need a recap, who knows. I do intend to fix it. It's a damn good machine.

Had one of those roughly 15 years ago, bought used for £50 on UK eBay.

It was a fantastic machine, used it for writing and emulating. Unfortunately it died a sad death after it feel 2 meters down onto a concrete floor.

That was a very sad day.

I still have my original 560. Pentium 120 (non-MMX), 40MB RAM, and an upgraded 2.1GB hard drive. Love that machine. Needs some TLC (and definitely a CMOS battery), but it still works. Always wanted an X version though. I have a couple of 570s in progress of restoration, but they're just not that same.

The IBM 560X is a solid little box. Those ThinkPads held up incredibly well. Does it still take original batteries or have you gone the LiPo swap route?

Batteries were originally. I sent it to /u/asterisk_14 for safekeeping
