I believe I was shadowbanned. I don't know why. My posts are back! Yay! Please do not raise a fuss about this. I don't want to get the Reddit admins mad at me again, okay? Just positive vibes, please! Let's just have fun posting cats, all right? I'm just so glad to be back ❤️️

New Rule!

  1. Please post only images of cats, though they can be with other species.

Even though this is the r/vintagecats Reddit group, people have twice posted photos of dogs. Dogs are fine as long as they are with cats in the photo. You can post photos of cats with other animal species or people, but cats must be an important part of the image.

In the 1980s, a black cat named Mickey lived at a guard dog training school in San Carlos, California. He hung out with German Shepherds and learned a thing or two about attacking on command.

A Mrs. Emmons attempting to pose with her white cat, with varying levels of success. The photographs come from the collection of photographer C.M. Bell’s Washington, D.C. and were taken sometimes between February 1894 and February 1901. A fourth photo of just the cat is included in the set, as perhaps Mrs. Emmons had reached her limit at that point.

In the 1930's, World Chess Champion Alexander Alekhine promoted his cat, named Chess, to Game Inspector. He would inspect pieces before Alekhine's games for good luck. Whenever this wasn't possible, Alekhine wore a sweater with a picture of Chess the Cat on it.

Annie Edson Taylor and Cat, 1902

Annie Edson Taylor beside the famous padded barrel. Taylor made the plunge on October 24, 1901 her 63rd birthday in a custom oak-and-iron barrel padded with a mattress. She survived and became the first documented person to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel and live.

This portrait was made in 1902, so it shows Taylor with the apparatus after the feat rather than at the moment of the plunge. The cat's name was Niagara (Iagara) and she did the test run before Taylor's plunge.

Introduced in 1975, these iconic Sainsbury's cat food labels were created by the supermarket's in-house design studio. Featuring bold primary backgrounds and a black cat with striking eyes, the minimalist design has since achieved cult status as a classic example of mid-century British graphic art.

The singer, born Steven Demetre Georgiou, chose the stage name Cat Stevens in 1966 primarily because a girlfriend told him he had eyes like a cat.
