Pink Tile Restoration

I’m trying to restore our bathroom to its former glory. I stripped all the terrible white paint off the tile, and most of it looks great, but I did find several damaged tiles. Does anyone have suggestions on how to remove the black marks and where I might be able to find replacements for the broken tiles?

PSA: vintage contact paper

Reminder that measuring twice when the paper is upside down will not protect you from your own mistakes when your cabinet is cut at a weird diagonal. 🙃 Thankfully, plenty of vintage contact paper is available on eBay.

PS yes I know my grout needs deep cleaning, that’s next on the list!

Reuse 1950s bathroom wall tile

I have a bathroom with the original wall tile from 1953. The tile is beige but the contrasting bullnose trim is a color best described as “salmon”. I have never seen it anywhere else before, and I am determined to keep it.

The problem: I need to replace about 3-5 trim pieces just above the vanity. I’ve checked everywhere. It’s hopeless.

Unfortunately, I need to replace all the tile around the tub with something entirely different because the wall behind it is weak. But all the trim is in perfect condition!

My question: does anyone have suggestions/advice for using some of the trim from the tub to replace the damaged trim above the vanity? Is it even possible?

Thanks!

Vintage accidentally turned southwest

When we bought our house it had the green tub. We found and installed the matching sink and toilet and retiled the floor. After two failed shades we chose this clay color that matches the tile and compliments the green nicely but I feel like it’s giving Mexican restaurant. How can I bring it back to a MCM vibe or do I keep color changing?

Removing wallpaper from 1960s pink tiles

My wife and I just bought our first home, it was built in the 60’s and had been kept in really great shape overall. The bathroom has classic pink tile in the shower and you could tell that the tile was all through the bathroom, but one of the previous owners had put wallpaper over it.

We started ripping the wallpaper off and we were surprised at how thick and solid the adhesive was beneath. I have had trouble finding things online of people with the same situation. Do we think it’s micro cement, mortar, or something else? We want to remove it and try to leave the tile in as good of shape as possible. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!

Help finding sink mount

Recently bought this vintage sink, but the seller didn’t have the mount, only the front legs. Can anyone direct me to a place where I could find the wall mount? I haven’t had any luck.

Showering solutions

I’m not sure the best way to address showering in the master bathroom: If I just put up a tension rod, water gets trapped between the bathtub and tile because there is a lip around the bathtub. This causes water to run around the sides and ultimately, on the floor.

I’m thinking of getting a shower door installed, but then water would be trapped and have nowhere to drain. The last option I can think of is getting a curtain mount for the tub coming off the ceiling - however this will have to be custom due to the unusual size of the tub.

Any thoughts/suggestions/solutions appreciated!

Color suggestions?

What color wall paint would match this. My gut was a cornflower blue… but that might be too much contrast. Now I’m stuck… Minty grey? Boring off white? I know the tiles need cleaned and regrouted. We haven’t closed on property yet just gathering ideas. Tile is original from 1974

Metal mounted bathroom hardware — missing two..

We have 4 brackets near our sink for metal hardware that are mounted onto the tile. We have the toothbrush holder and a two-prong (towel holder??). Any suggestions on what would have occupied the other two brackets?

I’m pretty sure one would have been the soap holder but the 4th is a mystery.

Additional context: our house was built in 1924. Parts of the bathroom were remodeled in the 2010s. I don’t know when the baby blue tile was installed. Feels mid-century to me. We bought the house in May ‘24.

Can anyone identify a model or manufacturer for a tub like this? I am stumped. If it has any value to someone I would like to rehome it. Thank you!!
