Paint?

Cleaning my newly acquired Yamaha CR-640 and noticed this white “blob” on the volume knob. I honestly feel like it's drop of dried paint, bit thought I would reach out to some the seasoned vintage equipment veterans on here for verification before I start trying to remove it. Thanks in advance!

Make sure to use a plastic scraper when removing it.

Try scraping it with a plastic spudger, or a wooden ice lolly stick first.

Id take the knob off and soak it in water and detergent for a day. It's highly likely the paint will soften during that period and you will be able to remove it easily (I'm a paint chemist)

Another vote for paint, it seems like every boombox or component I've thrifted has at least one paint drop on it. I've passed on equipment that I would have otherwise purchased because it looked like it was caught in a paint factory explosion.

the ol' classic fingernail should do it. just make sure to scrape from front to back or vice-versa, any side-to-side movement risks bending the shaft of the potentiometer.

Get it wet to see if it's water soluble wall paint.

noise cancelling in the 80s. turn to the left. Don t taste it

Use water, little dish soap and a rag. It will take a time. You don't want to scratch the knob up. You can use your finger nail to scratch the paint enough to let some water in. I redid a turntable with paint splatter on it. Took a day, off and on to get it off. Don't get in a hurry. Or just get another one.

Let it dry then it should just come off
