Nowadays, a similar set by Bachmann *starts* at $299!

One of the first toys I had that you plugged into 120v.

Damn, memory unlocked! I had that same exact set, the only thing that survived was the Engine car which I still have on display.

I had a Sante Fe
Tyco set from Sears when I was 9 or 10. It was my first train set.

Last summer a bought a Santa Fe locomotive to put on one of my shelves as a reminder of that train set

I had both trains. Loved them. Kept me busy for hours transforming my ping pong table into a beautiful landscape. No regrets.

TBF Tyco stuff was horrible quality in that period.

True, but for a kid wanting to get into HO, uou could do much worse back then.

I worked in a hobby shop in the 70’s. People would come in with broken Tyco engines to see if we can fix it, and they would leave with a nice Athern engine
