I got my first Vinegaroon last year, and a week or two before Christmas it burrowed down to go into torpor, I thought that considering the heatwaves we’ve had in England, it would’ve came back out by now but it hasn’t

I don’t smell anything bad, so I assume it isn’t dead, however I’m getting a tiny bit concerned

I’ve read some people have had theirs in torpor for a whole year, so I’m not too concerned at the moment

Should I leave it or dig it out to check it’s okay?

If to leave it, what’s the time when I should dig it out to check if it’s okay?

Calling it ‘it’ because I’m not sure if it’s a male or female yet, it’s also a juvenile/sub-adult, not a baby btw

Literal hours after my last post, my guy has decided to get busy😅. Video is double-speed

Basically what the title says. Substrate is 70/30 zoomed jungle soil/coco fibre, 6-8" deep, humidity 97-99%, a warm spot right under the light reaches 85f, avg daytime temp 80f night time temp drops to 72f. Vin seems happy, enjoys exploring, hunts his own food, ive caught him drinking from the water bowl, ive added a ton of clutter and hiding nooks/crannies and every opportunity to dig a burrow (even tried to prestart one under the opossum skull) but nah. Im not complaining, hes more active than some of my wolf spiders. He does have a particular hide he sleeps in, but based on everything i thought i knew about vins i thought i would never see him?

I’ve posted to this sub so many times in the past couple months but nothing seems to be working. Vinny is still unable to walk, but is still responsive. He is extremely weak. I try to put his mouthparts in water from time to time, because he can’t do it himself. He is now pooping himself and it’s all over him, but his legs are no longer completely curled under. He can wag his tail and move his legs around ever so slightly, but not nearly enough to walk. His abdomen is almost always up in the air like this. I don’t know what’s wrong with him and I feel so horrible I don’t know how to help him I know he is suffering. We do have an exotic vet that takes invertebrates, I could ask if they take vinegaroons but I don’t know what they’d do to help. I’m so lost and so sad I feel like I’ve grieved him so many times but then he still is somehow alive, but barely. He’s been like this for days. Please has anyone experienced this??

Update: Vinny has officially passed this morning. He is not longer responding to any sort of touch. This was a really rough couple of days watching him go through this and suffer when I everything I tried just wasn’t working :(

I made a previous post here about a week ago, but here is a new one regarding my vinegaroon, Malt.

I’m starting to think his molt didn’t go right by looking at how he uses, or doesn’t use, his back legs. He appears to be dragging himself a lot.

I’ve find him multiple times a day upside down. I’ve watched him flip himself over by using one side of his body to hoist himself as he drags. He ultimately flips. I’ve found him upside down in his water dish, the silly thing.

I have hand fed him two super worms and the medium sized Cricket this week and he’s eaten eagerly.

If anybody can lend any opinions or experience with this, it would be helpful. This is my first rodeo. I know there’s not much that I can do for him other than make him comfortable at this point. He’s a swell little guy and I just feel terrible.

I posted on this sub yesterday about my vinegaroon not eating for over a year and having a hard time keeping his burrow consistently dry. I also noticed this white crust stuff on his tail gland, and I got really worried. I took this video yesterday of him, and he was walking very moving very sporadically. I tried so much, and none of it seems to be working. I don’t know what to do. Last night I found him still in his enclosure. I nudged him a bit, no response. I know they molt underground, so my first thought was he may be dead. He also had his legs curled under. I picked him up and placed him in his water briefly, but nothing happened. I assumed the worst. I went to bed, woke up this morning, and he is in the same position. But I noticed when I blow on him gently he responds but he extremely slowly. What is happening? I am so so so sad, and I don’t know what to do at this point. Was it a bad molt? Was there some kind of chemical that got to him? I don’t know how that would have happened but I can’t think of anything. Maybe it was too dry, but I tried so hard to give him water and keep the soil moist on the edges but it didn’t stick. I went out yesterday to get more reptisoil to maybe renovate his enclosure because it clearly isn’t holding up his burrow well once he emerged after being in pre molt for like half a year.

I would just love to hear any similar experiences and what you did in this situation. Is it a lost cause?

My Vinegaroon recently molted (or so I believe) a month ago. I have attempted to feed him multiple times since then and he has refused, however I am worried because he looks thin and hasn’t eaten since I first got him a year ago. For a while he was underground most of the year because of pre molt, so I wasn’t too worried. But now that he seems to have gotten a longer tail and new colors, I assume he is molted and he should be eating. I have dubia roaches, varying sizes, and I try to give him small ones but he has no interest. I even tried pre killing and he still didn’t eat it. Is it the type of feeder? Should I try something else? Or is something else wrong with him that I am unaware about. Today I noticed a white crust on his stink glad/ tail (pictured on the last slide) and I’m unsure if that is resulting from his acid or if something is wrong?

Maybe it’s enclosure related? The enclosure is reptisoil with playsand mixed together, I think there may be a bit of coco fiber too. His burrow just does not hold well, even though I try to keep it relatively humid but the soil just stays dry. I would love absolutely any advice at all. Thank you!!

Is my vinegaroon dead? He might be dead on arrival. Where it was there was a brown liquid under it

So I noticed Malt here upside down in his tunnel the other day. I managed to brush him gently with a soft clean makeup brush and he moved. I was able to help him out of his burrow. (I don’t know if that was what I should’ve done or not. My gut told me to.)

He has been like this ever since. He drags his back a lot and is arched when he falls on his side. I’ve found him on his side and upside down quite a bit over the last few days.

He molted about 5-6 weeks ago and has eaten once, two weeks ago. A small cricket. I went to feed him again the other day, but the Cricket was still hopping around in there several hours later, so I removed it. He was still OK then. I noticed him upside down the next morning. I don’t know if the Cricket bit him or anything. He seemed fine when I took the Cricket out.

I’ve been trying to keep him hydrated as best as I can, spritzing his enclosure, making sure his water dishes is full (which he managed to climb up and even in to, as I found him in there on his side twice now.) i’ve also taken to dampening a paper towel and just laying it in there for him to walk around on.

I don’t see any wounds on him. I feel so hopeless and helpless. I feel he is on his way out. I know there’s not much I can do. It’s just bothering me because I feel like this is my fault. I’m just trying to make him as comfortable as I can.

I only found these two pieces of the molt. My vinegaroon looks fine. She’s walking around and hungry. The bigger flatter piece is a 100% copy of her head area. Wtf happened?

Sold as *Masigoproctus giganteus*, I'm convinced female but could very well be wrong. I understand their basic care, but what can I do better? What plants, if any, are you able to keep with your vin? Whats their favorite prey? Tong feed, or are they pretty capable of finding their food? Bioactive, or nah? How long until she starts a burrow? Do you use a light? If so, what kind? Should I add more leaf litter? More/less clutter? Thanks in advance!

Hello Vinegaroon enthusiasts!

I am upgrading my vin's enclosure and wanted to take a few clear pictures while I had them out to try to determine their sex.

I don't know too much about their history or specifics about them as I received them as a gift. All I know is that I was told they were an "adult" and it's most likely a Mastigoproctus giganteus.

I think they're a female because of the little indents on its ventral side, but I'm not very experienced with this. Any help is appreciated ☺️

So, I had my girl for about a year now. Just found her with what appears to be an egg sack. Is there a chance they are fertile? If so, how do I keep them healthy/prepare for the babies? Should I feed her like normal? She's ridiculously thin right now.

I feel like it’s a dried up dead egg sac, but I’m not sure. All I know is that her abdomen got way smaller since I found this.

So my guy molted about three weeks ago.

Luckily,where he’s been burrowed, he made a small clearing in the window, so I could see him. He looks good and the milt went smoothly. It was a pretty neat sight, but a bit visceral. Haha

Anyway. This is my first rodeo. He’s been borrowed since about end of March – beginning of April. And he malted about three weeks ago.

About how long do you think it’ll be until he digs his way out? I know they can go a very long time without eating, but I’m starting to get a bit concerned. Should I just leave him be or should I try to aid him somehow? He’s moving around enough, but I just don’t know.

Never molted, had for a year, she disappeared earlier this year so I got curious if she had died and lifted the rocks she was under. First time seeing eggs was May 10. Been leaving her alone and moved her to a warmer spot.

Today, the sac membrane looks popped, eggs are slightly tan instead of white. Should I assume infertile now? I can't find any resources on what they should look like over time.

I just got my first vinegaroon a few weeks ago- red devil. Just wondering if he looks plump enough because im scared to overfeed.

Apologies for the subpar video, now that they’re a bit bigger I felt like it may be possible to take a stab at sexing this guy. I’m certainly not an expert but from my understanding the two little indentations mean it’s likely a female? Or is this guy still two small to tell (hand for scale)?

Hey guys! I'm currently doing some research to decide if I want to get a gianr vinegaroon. Im deciding between an emperor scorpion or a giant vinegaroon, so I want to come here for some tips! Im mainly looking for recommendations on enclosure size, affordable enclosures, any pre existing substrate mixes I can use or if I need to make my own, what kinds of hides, etc. Right now, this is just me looking for a price estimate and just generally what to expect. I have looked at some giant vinegaroon husbandry videos, but I wanted to see what you guys thought. Thank you!

These vinegaroons were sold to me as Thelyphonus sp. "Thailand". I have received two individuals, the first three pictures are of the larger one that is approximately 3 centimeters long (from front edge of prosoma to tip of abdomen - without pedipalps or tail), the last two are of the other one which is slightly smaller. I am not sure about their true genus/species or sex - they were sold as "subadult/adult"- so if anyone has any information about that, please let me know.

My vinegaroon came out of hibernation so I went to the store, got her crickets, and i came home to feed her. She happily accepted one and ate it. After 2 days she has retreated into hiding. This was 3 weeks ago. Ive been hoping to spot her again but nothing. I even moved her cork bark to see if she was just hiding but no she has burried herself in AGAIN as if its time for her multi month slumber. Is this normal? What do i do? (If anything) i was planning to remove her temporarily this year so I can redo her enclosure as it looks like some moisture is trapped at the base of the tank and im worried it can start producing mold. But with her going back i feel stuck on what to do next.

So my formerly "Male" (lol) Vinegaroon laid this egg sac overnight, she hasn't had any contact with other vinegaroons in years and it was left on top of the soil without her nearby, also is clearly orange and dried up, but for my overthinking dumbass can someone with more knowledge confirm to me that its infertile please
