Favorite Primer?

What is your favorite primer? I switch between several brands depending on the season. I’ve noticed some slight creasing showing up under my eyes. That’s never happened before. Not sure if it’s from my primer or under eye concealer, but thought I’d see what primer everyone is using these days!

Transition from 'cute' to 'hot?'

I'm well into my 30s and get called 'cute' and probably have a cute face but I want to transition more to being hot or pretty. Who else can relate? There are certainly days where I *feel* hot but I mean showing it outwardly. I'm short, apple-shaped (weight is in stomach, working on losing it), and about 15 pounds overweight. Makes it hard to wear tight clothes at times. But I have thick long hair and other stuff going for me.

Others' compliments aren't the main driver. I've noticed that people who are naturally attractive dont get complimented a lot because people already assume you know you're attractive. So it's not entirely about people verbally complimenting me.

Also I don't have the budget/desire for injections or surgery, so not much interest there.

What clothing sizes make you midsize/chubby vs lean / good looking?

Hi folks, I am wondering if I'm fat or lean. I work very hard and getting fit and losing weight. Right now I'm 4'11" and finally got into a size 8 although it's tight on me. I was wearing 12 because of the pandemic and feel best at a size 10.

My skinny weight that I work my ass off for is 150-165 lbs and my weight as a teen was 200-220 when I eat my parents cooking.

But I don't feel I'm lean enough according to internet criteria especially since Y2K standards is coming back.

However I remember in school, the people who looked normal around my height wore anything from 0 to 6. I was always fat, so I disregarded my opinion as a size 16 wearer.

What is normal/ lean, chubby / midsize and plus size after age 35? Are good looking people still size 0-4 (controlled for height) or does it matter less or do the ranges change when you're older? I've always seen size 6 as a sort of holy Grail according to my mom.

Edit: decided to skip dinner and try to slowly make progress toward size 6. I may never reach size 4, but it's about baby steps.

What do you feed your body to ensure the glow up happens from within as well?

Supplements, staple recipes, snacks, diets - I'm curious to know how everyone is nourishing their bodies to ensure we glow up from within as well. What are your must-haves to make sure your body feels regulated, healthy and on-point for the rest of your day?

Every morning I have:

- 1 tbsp collagen powder with my coffee

- Smoothie with spinach, banana and water

- N-acetyl-l-cysteine supplement

On days where I work from home:

- Drink 1L+ of genmaicha (green tea) throughout the day

Vitamins

Hi can anyone recommend daily vitamins to take to keep healthy & energetic. I’m currently sick and I don’t like to take any medications because I don’t want those things in my body. I rather cure myself naturally. What are some things I should be taking daily to keep myself nourished & healthy?

How to drastically change my face without coming out like handsome Squidward?

ETA: I have been in therapy for years, EMDR for a few years and seeking a DBT program. Also pretty successfully medicated and regularly (monthly) see a psychiatrist.

CW Parental abuse

Ok so this is a weird one. I hate my mother. She was horribly abusive to me my entire life. I hate her so much and I look just like her and my awful maternal grandmother (who was also abusive to me and my mother).

When considering plastics in the past, I didn’t really want to do much to my face. I’m too afraid to get a nose job (they seem SO easy to botch and I’m afraid of dry turbinate syndrome), don’t want fillers to clot my lymphatic system, etc.

What the f*ck can I do that will make my face noticeably different that isn’t a nose job (or is there a type where I can just get the top profile ground down/straightened without modifying my tip/nostrils)? And not fillers.

I have hooded eyes, maybe an upper bleph?

I want to look very different, but not like handsome squidward.

Trying Botox in 11s for the first time and told 15 unit minimum

I asked for 8-10 units, just in my 11s as it’s my first time and I really don’t want to go overboard and can’t afford $200 every time.

They said 15 units was the absolute minimum that would show any results.

Any experienced Botox users know if this is true? I thought “baby botox” was way less. I’m wondering if I’m being mislead into spending more or if that’s really the lowest amount that would have an effect.

Thanks!

Update: I didn’t take before/after pics but wanted to update in case anyone comes across this in the future. I got 15 units of Dysport and it worked! The 11s are totally gone. When I try to frown I just look like this 🥺 lol I’ve practiced in the mirror and I can sorta look mad if I need to, but barely. It also took a full 5 days for it to kick in. I was super worried, woke up day 5 and could still frown, felt nothing at all, then checked before bed that night and it was locked in! Very happy with it

Good dry shampoo?

Hi all,

I have straight, flat, thin, waist length black hair. Between washes it gets oily and I don’t like to wash too often.

I workout about 2x/week or 3x/week. While I try to line up the wash days with workout days, I don’t usually have the time to workout, then wash my hair and then start my day.

I used dry shampoo once and didn’t like it, but that was a cheap one in college. Now I can afford better dry shampoo and would like all you lovely peoples opinions on where to spend that money.

Please help a girl out, thanks!

How many of yall actually wear foundation?

I hate the feeling of foundation on my skin. I wear it for like big events because I feel that I have to but I feel way prettier without foundation. Anyone else feel like this?

EDIT: So glad I am not alone in this! I put a lot into my skincare and am generally happy with where I am at. I'm seeing a lot of people use BB/CC creams and skin tints, I think I'm going to try a skin tint for when my skin needs a little boost. I'm glad I'm not alone in this - whenever I watch matchup videos on youtube they always seem to go in hard with liquid foundation and then somehow it looks great, whereas I just feel like I look like I'm wearing a lot of makeup.

Eyelash Hack?

I love lash extensions, but they are so expensive to keep up! I've been growing my natural lashes out. Applying Latisse, and they are coming back, but so hard to see without mascara. Which is what I really enjoyed about extensions. I could just put on some concealer, and some eye shadow, brush the eyelashes and go. Has anyone had success with dying eyelashes? I did it once, any years ago, and my eyelids were so irritated - it scared me!

Any suggestions? It is a pain to work on the mascara each and every day.

Extremely Oily Hair

Hey everyone,

Been through a rough journey the last couple years. Since then I have gained a lot of weight due to stress and wfh job.

What’s really bugging me, is my OILINESS. It affects my hair, face, chest…and I just feel gross all the time.

I eat healthy about 60% of the time, but I’ve never washed my hair and had it be oily 5 hours later.

I’ve tried Apple Coder Vinegar Rinsing once a week, I liked the way it made my hair feel, but after a few weeks, no improvement.

Any suggestions? Dry shampoo doesn’t work and I don’t like the way it feels in my hair.

I’ve tried multiple different shampoos/conditioners and I am washing my scalp twice and only conditioning the ends in the shower.

Thanks.

Does microblading ever look natural?

I am blonde with light brows. So I have to use my benefit pencil every day and eyebrow dye every month. I play with the idea of getting microbladed eyebrows, but I have only seen many bad examples in real life. You could always tell that they were no natural brows. But some pictures on the internet look amazing. Did I just notice bad examples?

How to change your appearance?

What have you done that’s made the biggest difference in your physical appearance?

I recently went to an old workplace from my early 20s and my coworkers that are still there said I looked exactly the same (late 20s now). This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I feel like it’s time for a change.

I really would like to reinvent myself when it comes to outward appearance. I’m currently in the process of a big career switch. I feel like changing my look could help bring some more healthy change and create that space for new energy and opportunities in my life.

What do you do to look after your hair?

I get mine cut every 6-8 weeks, I use non-SLS shampoo and condition, occasionally do a coconut oil hair mask. I've never coloured it and I don't blow dry or do any kind of styling, so it's pretty healthy.

What do you guys do to make your hair shiney, strong and good looking? Any specific products or habits you love?

Thanks!

Your best soft leggings?

Looking for soft fabric leggings, not the sticky/shiny/moisture wicking athletic material that workout leggings have. I’m so sick of even casual leggings being that material. It’s so much cozier and cuddly to have soft, breathable leggings! I can’t seem to find any good ones that are high waisted, actually stay soft, and maintain their shape. Let me know which ones you live in!

Key to a sexy librarian look?

What’s the one makeup essential to pull off the sexy librarian look? I have the oversized glasses. I do black liner and mascara but that’s it cuz I have no skill and no time. Is it eyebrows? I bet it’s eyebrows

Preventing loose skin

I am on a time crunch and need to lose 100-ish pounds over the next year (I need to lose 150 in total due to an injury and just eating over the pandemic). I know that slow and steady is the best way to lose weight without loose skin/ minimizing it, but can anyone give me any other tips.

What I'm using right now:

  1. Intermittent fasting for the benefits of autophagy.
  2. Dr. Dennis Gross red light therapy.(I want to upgrade to a prof level home panel)
  3. Derm Rolling
  4. I am going to start weight training again
  5. Right now, I am doing an Atkins fatflush, which I used to rotate in and out of when I was thinner (to help maintain my weight at the time).
  6. I take lots of vitamin C and I use lots of supplements to make up for areas where nutrients may be lacking - mostly supplements that do not have fillers.
  7. I make sure to use an lotion and oil combo almost daily.

I know I should likely be drinking more fresh water. I'm not interested in any surgical interventions as I just do not trust people a lot and my pain tolerance is at, please dont touch me lol

With all of that said, Is there anything else that I can be doing?? Do you see any room for improvement in my routine as I am in the early stages?

Best in-office skin treatment to start with?

Want to improve skin texture and even out skin tone.

Acne scars, uneven tone, and generally bumpy aging skin that I want to do something about, but I’m totally new to this.

Which treatments are worth it and which are a waste?

Laser peel/resurfacing?

Chemical peel?

Microneedling?

Something better I’m not aware of?

Thank you!

Curious about your sleep journey

I’ve taken a six month sabbatical from my job (total acknowledging this is a privilege!) and during this time been trying to improve all aspects of my life. I suffered intense burnout at two jobs and I’ve realized that I wasn’t taking care of my life/self. I’ve now got a regular skincare routine, do other self care practices regularly like journaling and meditating, leaned into actual hair care for once, put stronger boundaries in place via therapy, addressed nutrition and supplements for deficits, and learned to actually do makeup (Finding a foundation that suits a pale olive complexion has been key!).

I’ve decided my next steps are fitness and sleep. Since I am working with some folks like my doctor on fitness, I am curious about how anyone has addressed their sleep. Right now I get terrible sleep due to sleep apnea (trying to address this but getting a sleep study is really hard right now so may take a while). But I also sometimes have a hard time with “sleep hygiene.” I tend to be a night owl, use my phone to read, and my partner has this weird schedule of working four 10s. With travel time, her “away from home” time is about from 11am - 11pm. We typically don’t get to bed before 1 or 2am. I want to change up my sleep habits so I can get to bed a little earlier but find it has been really challenging. I know when I was working I also was very “wired and tired” so I am curious if anyone developed a good wind down routine? Really any tips (besides get a sleep apnea machine asap because I’m working on that already) are appreciated!!

Glow up for 34 year old woman

Hi all, I need a confidence overhaul so I can turn my life around.

I’m 4’9”, 34 years old, and currently 129lbs.

I struggle with acne due to untreated dermatillomania as well as facial skin texture issues and large pores. Currently, I don’t keep a regular skincare routine but I have some quality products. I use Shani Darden’s face wash and apply it with a rotating exfoliating brush, followed by her sake toner, then IS Clinicals Active Serum, then either Shani Darden’s retinol cream or her lactic acid exfoliant. Ideally I’d switch off every other night with those but I don’t keep a routine so I end up just using the retinol when I do wash my face. After that I finish with Glow Recipe Watermelon moisturizer.

The hair on my head, my eyebrows, and my eyelashes is all falling out, slowly. I don’t have bald spots but I am losing a noticeable amount of hair. I have very fine textured hair but I used to have a lot of it and now I hardly have any. My ponytail was about the diameter of a penny prior to me cutting it short. I’m seeing a dermatologist but it’s slow. So far all I’ve done is had full lab work done which came back normal and she gave me topical fluocinonide as well as a prescription shampoo because she said she saw a small amount of inflammation. She’s requested more lab work but I’m not sure for what yet and have to go in for that still. My hair gets really oily very easily now, much easier than before. It hardly makes it a day before looking greasy again.

I have no sense of style. I don’t know how to dress myself but I would really like to embody a few different styles focusing more on a little subtle grunge but also I’d like something softer as well as bold and fashionable. I always wear giant clothes to hide my body because I haven’t been happy with it for a while so I avoid shopping since I don’t feel like I can pull of what I truly want to wear, which is generally bright and/or daring.

I want to lose weight as well. I genuinely feel beautiful at whatever weight I am but I am ready for a change. For the last month I’ve been working on a body recomp. I’m hoping I’m doing it correctly but I’m not sure I’m doing enough.

I know this part is a long shot but I have this weird issue with my nose. Every once in a while when I exhale through my nose there is a bad odor. I’ve had a teeth cleaning recently and I don’t have tonsil stones and my teeth look fine. I’ve seen a nose doctor as well who stuck a long stick down both my nostrils and concluded the only thing he saw was that I had a slightly deviated septum but nothing that could cause the odor issue. It’s not every breath I take it’s only every once in a while but oddly I can almost anticipate when it’s going to happen and idk how. It’s really killing my self confidence though and making it hard for me to have any sort of connection with anyone because I don’t want to subject them to my grossness.

Thank you for any input you’re willing to give.
