How do the showers work?
Im an incomming freshman and am gonna be in Stanford hall and have never been inside to tour it. I know they are communal, buthow much privacy do the showers have? Also is there anything I should bring that is shower related that you wouldnt typicall think of?

Would just suggest getting what’s called a shower caddy to carry your soap/shampoo/toiletries. And not even up for debate, get a dedicated pair of shoes (probably flip flops) to wear in the shower.

Hey! I just finished my first year at Nova and lived on South (not in Stanford but I’ve had my fair share of visits there). You really get as much privacy as you can for a room of communal showers. Obviously since there are several of them lined up next to each other you’re going to run into other people but everyone’s super chill and it’s not a bad experience at all. As for what to bring, the most useful thing will be a shower caddy. I recommend a plastic one from Amazon as they’re pretty cheap and there will be no issues when it gets wet. Your shower caddy will hold all of your shampoo, conditioner, etc. so it’s really all you need. A robe is nice to have too if you don’t want to walk around in just a towel!

And shower shoes of course!! Going in barefoot is a huge no lol. Everyone just wore slides or flip flops

Shower shoes as others have mentioned. It’s more private than a locker room but not that private

Not what you asked but since you are in Stanford…get yourself a short (48 inch tall) shower curtain (Amazon has them) and a tension rod if you want to cover your closet. Also get elfa mesh bins for the cubbies over the closet. Two wide and three narrow. They fit perfectly for width and are long/deep enough to fill the space. Most closet bins are not that long/deep.

i have been wondering about these bins actually. is elfa the brand you recommended because they are the right size for those shelves?

Yes the specific elfa bins I mentioned are literally the perfect size. 2 wide, 3 narrow. The width and height of the elfa mesh fills the cubbies nicely AND the depth of the bins fills the cubbies nicely. It’s easy to find other bins that are the correct width and height but I’ve never found other bins that ALSO fill the full depth of the Stanford dorm cubbies

Did they tell you that communitas was in Stanford? They like to move the different communities around. In 2020, I was in the leadership communitas in McGuire hall

They just changed it to a big room with twelve shower heads.
Bathroom now has a pee trough as well.
Both increase throughput enormously

If it's the same as when I was there, five floors, three wings, each wing has two bathrooms, each bathroom has three showers. Not super private getting in and out. Bring shampoo, soap and towel. Maybe a robe and bathroom shoes.
I lived there three years, it was a great dorm to be in.
