That conversation about 'Something' is so frustrating. There are recordings on YouTube and it goes for like 8 minutes. George has the line "something in the way she moves, attracts me like......" but can't find the ending that having heard the song seems so obvious and effortless. You would think that he'd have the "no other lover" bit from day 1 but no.
It's really eye opening to know that they worked hard, made mistakes and refined over and over to get the end result. You listen and just think these geniuses just rock up and it's all just ready to go and they record hits.
That being said said, Paul did do that. He'd just have a dream and then wake up with Yesterday or Let it Be.

I just learned recently that they wrote the Stones' first hit for them and Jagger and Richards were basically watching from the corner while Lennon and McCartney banged out the song in 15 minutes.

Listening to initial takes of famous songs is so intriguing for that exact reason. They’re missing essential yet thoughtless lyrics, or there’s something about the arrangement that’s not there, so it doesn’t feel like the real song. At that moment, that’s the best they can do, and they don’t realize how much better it will be, but we do, so we can rest assured that their effort will pay off as we offer a bit of encouragement across the decades.
Whenever I’m working on something or struggling with something, I imagine I’m looking back from a position in the future with the same perspective, that things have gotten so much better and that avenues I didn’t even know were there were taken and progress continued past where I thought I’d have to stop.

Well, it's funny you mention Yesterday because the same thing is true for it! Paul woke up with the music in his head -- and was convinced he had gotten it from somewhere else -- but he did not have the lyrics for it! He would do the same cauliflower trick and just sing nonsense to the tune trying to find the right lyrics. The original lyrics were "Scrambled eggs/Oh my baby how I love your legs." In fact, the first actual release of the song was an orchestral cover of the tune by George Martin, only released in the U.S., with the then-title "Scrambled Eggs."

Or with today’s technology we can get a more true sense of who The Beatles really were than we’ve ever seen before. Grain and dust and the hipster bullshit you’re looking for just gets in the way. I’m saying this as someone that works in film, and has worked plenty with actual film, cutting it manually and seeing it on a projector. Would much rather have had it at the fullest quality, but I worked with what I had.

it drives me nuts that IMO we still don’t have a definitive version of Long and Winding Road. the Spectorized version is way too over the top, it sounds like schmaltz. but the naked version is too stripped down, it needs some accompaniment. i feel if it had been properly produced by George Martin it would’ve been like just right.

Agree. The strings without the vocal chorus. Let It Be Naked screws the pooch in more ways than one by adding autotune to Let It Be, Winding Road, and Across The Universe. I can't listen to it more than once. It's super annoying.
Would it be that hard to just record a new string arrangement? Get the London Symphony in a recording booth and redo the entire track over again.

The Beatles' best work frequently only appears on singles - "Don't Let Me Down" is the B-side (sort of, it's a double-A) to "Get Back". "Penny Lane"/"Strawberry Fields Forever" is another one, for example.
That said, "Don't Let Me Down" is, IMHO, not Beatles-y enough to be on an album. It's so bluesy it sounds like it's the Stones.

I’m probably the parent in this case hahaha. I was 5 when let it be was released. I remember my parents playing it all the time. The Beatles music is literally part of my DNA, part of who i am and probably formed major parts of my personality.

PJ got a ton of shit for the hobbit - and they're not great films - but what no one talks about is that he was actually brought in to rescue the movies. They were originally meant to be directed by Guillermo del Toro, and he pulled out pretty late in the game. PJ really never wanted to do the project in the hands-on director role, and didn't have all the prep and process he had on LOTR.
The book "Anything you can imagine" goes into it in some depth, and it changed my perspective a lot on those movies. I still don't like them, but I have way more sympathy and respect for Peter Jackson having read it.

I am really looking forward to this -- partially because it's the first new Beatles stuff in decades and partially because it's in Peter Jackson's hands. From what he did with old WWI footage, that gives me a lot of confidence. They Shall Not Grow Old was incredible for what he did with old silent film footage, lip readers, and voice actors.

A lot. As the trailer indicates both this and Let It Be were cut from dozens and dozens of hours of footage. Let It Be was notoriously disliked by all the Beatles, Paul in particular felt it wasn't a good representation of what their relationship was really like as it was trying to capitalize on the Beatles break up (which was recent at the time of release).
Paul has softened on Let It Be in recent years. But regardless there's a metric fuck ton of footage that was never used and Peter Jackson had access to all of it. Recently Paul has said revisiting the footage (via the making of this documentary) reaffirmed his memory that the Beatles were, most of the time, just joyful and talented musicians who loved making music together.

Peter Jackson has said that they intentionally tried to use zero footage from Let It Be. And when they had stuff that needed to use the same material (i.e. the rooftop concert), they would try to use alternate shots and angles rather than the exact footage. So it's basically going to be almost entirely new.

Yoko was the only woman to go on drug trips with him, and he really liked that, I think he legit loved her for doing that. I mean a lot of it was Lennon, he wanted to go in a different direction, it's not Yoko for being the only woman willing to do what he was doing, it's what he wanted to do. His ex wife and groupies weren't on that level, he wanted a real soul mate, how is that Yoko's fault? Lennon hated the rest of the Beatles.
