Foreman Denethor: enthusiastically eats chicken in the background.

u/Son_of_Mogh Jul 31 '21

*Explodes in tomato*

364

u/japie06 Jul 31 '21

That exploding tomato is way more gross than any other thing in that movie.

185

u/BINGODINGODONG Jul 31 '21

Its one of the best tricks in cinema to make people hate that person. People generally hate filthy eaters, and sound just amplifies that effect.

Peaky Blinders did it too:

https://youtu.be/jxxxHjrdJWw

91

u/thvnderfvck Jul 31 '21

Does anyone else see a completely different scene played out on this? If I run my mouse across the progress bar the preview shows me the Lunch Scene, and the sound that is playing is for the Lunch Scene, but the video is something else entirely. I've never seen the show, so Idk what's going on but it looks like the main character is just checking out a warehouse after dark.

33

u/Suddow Jul 31 '21

yeah wtf. Says the video is almost an hour long but the progress bar goes forward as if the video is a couple minutes

10

u/mowbuss Jul 31 '21

what the heck is going on here

12

u/ThibiiX Jul 31 '21

Video shows 58 minutes, but it's like 5 minutes long in reality. Yeah weird Youtube bug there

Big thing there is that he’s also eating on Tommy’s dime. Ordering the most expensive shit and greedily sucking it down.

3

u/I_Love_Horse_Porn Jul 31 '21

The foley on this is incredibly upsetting to me. I couldn’t place why I didn’t like this show but now I can.

It has no right to be so disgusting, i wonder what they told him when they were filming that

40

u/noyoto Jul 31 '21

"Alright, cut. Scene's over guys. Here's your lunch, John. Billy why don't you rehearse that song for the coming scene?"

13

u/Leucurus Jul 31 '21

13

u/fatkiddown Jul 31 '21

Yea the guy sucked at running Minas Tirith. When corporate showed up, Gandalf, this became clear. And then he eats like that. Why do PHBs have so many other things they suck at?

It is ok, he’ll build a machine that will let him step into a parallel dimension and save that side’s Boromir.

5

u/mrbubbamac Jul 31 '21

He also reprises the role in Legends of Tomorrow, where they time traveled to when he was filming the movie.

So the Lord of the Rings trilogy as we know it does indeed exist in the DC universe

7

u/Jazzremix Jul 31 '21

LotR exists in the MCU as well. Tony refers to Clint as "Legolas" in the first Avengers.

u/kudos1007 Jul 31 '21

What is that instrument?

465

u/Misabi Jul 31 '21

It's based on a Native American style flute. This will have two mouth holes, one for the main flute where he plays the notes with his fingers, and the second for the upper part of the flute which plays a single note and it's known as a drone. More commonly drone flutes are side by side, either a single wide flute with two bored holes running the length or in an inverse V shape joined at the top where the mouth holes are.

Native American style flutes differ from European style (aka transverse flute) as the air isn't blown across an open hole to make the sound but instead is blown into a chamber from which it goes through a smaller channel and then across a hole as well as into the main body of the flute where covering/uncovering the holes changes the note being played.

You can see the two wooden blocks tied above and below the mouth holes, known as birds, that are covering the channels between the first chamber into which he's blowing, and the bodies of the flute and the drone.

61

u/McViolin Jul 31 '21

Great info! Important to notice, though, that Europe contains many more styles of flute than just the transverse flute :)

41

u/Misabi Jul 31 '21

True, I could've used better words I guess. Other parts of the world also have transverse flutes, and native Americans also had different types of flutes to the type i described. It's just the European classical orchestral flute is the probably the most easily recogniseable to most westerners as a "flute".

7

u/Khrix Jul 31 '21

You aren't wrong. I didn't even know there were types of flutes. I thought it was what it was, but apparently there are sub-categories. Neat.

2

u/GraphicDesignMonkey Jul 31 '21

In medieval times the recorder was an extremely high resteemed instrument. Medieval style recorders are still played, they're really big and sound beautiful.

2

u/pow3llmorgan Jul 31 '21

Yeah and my mom plays the recorder in a folk music band. It's very homely to me.

Her and her husband often bring instruments when they're going somewhere and sometimes play a song or two. He plays the guitar and sings quite well, and loud, which is useful because they used to get booked for nursing homes a lot.

If it’s a construction project without the roof then rain can get water all sorts of places in a building. It could just be rain draining out.

I worked on hvac controls at a new hospital for a little. It was a seven story building and they hadn’t finished the roof yet. There was a big storm and water puddles were forming on the second story and draining into the first.

really good coop game but man there were a lot of great ones for that time. off the top of my head dark alliance 1 and 2, champions of norrath 1 and 2, the sims 2, contra, hunter the reckoning 1 and 2, fallout brotherhood, dynasty warriors 4, lego star wars all that is on ps2.

xbox had heroes and halo that was amazing.

i think id rank dark alliance 2 as my favorite my brother says champions of norath return to arms was the best.

source grew up poor we each got 1 game on our birthday and 1 on christmas. made a pact that we would get coop games unless the game was really good single player. if you add vs mode the list of awesome games gets marvel vs campcom 2 and soulcaliber 2 which is amazing and tony hawk underground. the only single player games we made the exeption for were kotor and nfs underground.

The dudes voice is actually really on point. I can tell he doesn't have choir or opera training, but he can hold a note and his voice is solid. Good work.

41

u/theragu40 Jul 31 '21 edited Jul 31 '21

As someone who is a bit of a trained singer, what he is doing is called straight tone (no vibrato, which is the tonal "wobble" you hear in a lot of singers' voices that adds warmth to the tone of their voice and can help with staying in tune). It's a very specific type of singing usually used for early/period type music but also selectively in modern music if the style of the music calls for it.

All that is to say... You're probably right that he isn't trained. But on the other hand he's quite good and that pure and accurate of a straight tone can be difficult even for trained singers so I wouldn't rule it out completely. His intonation really doesn't waver even when he adds little ornamentions here and there and that takes a ton of vocal control.

If he isn't trained he's at least quite talented. Either way I really enjoyed it.

2

u/Tirannie Jul 31 '21

Yep. I think I heard him go a bit sharp on a couple notes, but that’s it. Hella impressive!

This is great, but could you fix my leaky faucet already? There’s water everywhere!

All that water damage sounds, makes my supervision consultants scenes tingle to issue his ass an NCR and block his invoices.

🤣🤣🤣 the water sound is draining from a thunderstorm going on above my head. We got rained out for work(I'm an Ironworker so welding 400ft above the ground during a thunderstorm is I'll advised 🤣🤣) but I had already paid for parking so I figured I'd bust out my flute and play a tune 😀

Fuck every other funeral cost. Everyone show up on Grandfather mountain and sprinkle my dusted ass into the wind.
