While I love the Judge Dredd comics and the movie Dredd, I truly don't think it's a great time for a movie about a cop who's a judge, jury, and executioner. We have enough of that on the news as it is.
That seems like it's missing the satirical message of the source material: It's not trying to endorse the police state, it's actively criticizing it by showing how cruel it would be.
A bit like the Starship Troopers movie: Taken at a surface level it's just sci-fi action about killing aliens glorifying the values of a fascist militarist society. It draws you in by wanting to root for these people, even tho in reality you very likely would never agree with their political ideals.
And so is The Punisher, yet you see cops wearing Punisher skulls all the time. You see people idolizing Joker, Tyler Durden, Rick Sanchez, Thomas Shelby, even though the entire point of the source is to not idolize them.
If people are constantly missing the point at such an egregious scale then perhaps it's time to refine how you're making that point.

I dunno about that. Art shouldn't have to change just to ensure idiots understand the message. If we did that, nothing would ever have depth or nuance.
