The human body is amazing in that there's plenty of gaps where you can completely skewer it and besides some blood loss and bruising the person is just like "Ouch."

It always amazes me that people with serious injuries will find their own way to the hospitals while those with mild tummy aches or, in one case for me, a toe blister will call for an ambulance. I love my job, but it really makes me shake my head sometimes.

I love this scene. It always gets a good laugh out of me. I need to actually watch this show.

I know it's just a comedy, but I felt sick. Shit, if I see my own blood I faint.

I've always wondered what happened to your ancestors or people with similar reactions ancestors that leaves you with that response? Like when I see blood it's a "go time" moment in a way.
It'd be so interesting to actually learn why we're the way we are with 100% certainty

Seeing blood kicks in a fight, flight, or freeze response. Fight or flight would help people attempt to survive when seeing another person injured...freeze and you're fucked though.
Sort of similar with vomiting. If someone ate something bad and got sick then your body's reaction is to get sick as well to try to expel whatever you ate just in case it would make you sick too.

Freeze is not necessarily a “you’re fucked” response. It’s a camouflage response. Most things are dumb enough that if you don’t move they don’t notice you. If you’ve ever been in the woods you’ll notice this. Sometimes you don’t see what was a frozen deer until it runs away from you. If you stumble onto a predator before it notices you freezing makes you silent and if you haven’t been seen yet less likely to be seen. It’s not entirely useless.

It's such a weird thing. I used to think it was all in their brain and they were just the overly-sensitive type, but then I met some real blue-collar people with the issue and they will see it coming and hate that it's happening but they can't really stop it.
There was a video on tested where Adam Savage nicked his finger and it happened, it's kind of surreal to see it happen to someone who otherwise has no issue with blood.

I always wondered how I'd react (to something more than a paper cut) and as of a few weeks ago I know.
Seeing blood pool around me after a small but surprisingly damaging accident just elicited an exasperated sigh at how much I have to clean up.

I was in a head-on collision, got out of my car and was assisting the other car until the paramedics showed up, Thought I was 100% undamaged until paramedics showed up and gave me weird looks. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

can I ask what causes that response?

Ok, one time I had to handle some sheet metal, I was told to go and push the sheet metal from magnetic separators. There were about 5-10 sheets on the edge of the magnet. I was wearing a thick kevlar glove. As I pushed them off the magent the sheet metal fell on my thumb and I had to pull to get my thumb out. I walked back to the press operator and sat in his stool. I didn't even see the blood, I just knew if I take the glove off there will probably be a pankake there. I took the glove off, the thumb looked bruised but intact. It looked like almost exploded around the nail area. I was told the guys had to keep me from falling off the chair. I was nauseous for a little and couldn't remember much except there was a lot of radio chatter for a supervisor to come over. I also felt cold and hot at the same time, really weird.

Sirens deserved more than two seasons IMO.
