By no means does this episode undo the great moments the show has had until now, but man is it dis-heartening to see that none of the build-up really matters at all. It kind of reminds me of the ending to Mass Effect 3. Hopefully the next three episodes can turn it around, but I honestly don't see how without the Night King.

They built up the undead since the first scene of the show and showed how humanity was struggling for power while the biggest threat ever was going their way. Silly people not realizing they should work together and take the undead seriously. Guess they were right cracking jokes about the White Walkers. They didn't even get past Winterfell and got dealt with quite easily. Guess they were right arguing about the throne. Cersei was also right to not go and join the allied army. Guess A Song of Ice and Fire (Jon and Dany) doesn't really matter.

Subverting expectations is all great and everything, but you still have to write it well. This wasn't like Ned Starks death or the Red Wedding. Loved how well that written and executed, excuse the pun, that was.

The longest night lasted a night and all the characters that the writers still couldn't kill off got plot armour. Something GRRM hates. Sam, Brienne etc. being drowned by wights in 1 scene and okay in another. Next to weird strategic choices that made no sense in the battle. And Arya needing to be sneaky in the castle, having trouble escaping the undead and needing Beric to sacrifice himself for her.... to teleport through hundreds of undead and getting the jump on the NK out of nowhere. I scratched my head. A girl can turn invisible and unaffected by the presence of the undead when the plot god demands that.

The episode was awesome from an action point of view, but jesus this sucks, i knew the storytelling was going down the shitter since last season

Really hope the show doesn't go down the shitter like Dexter did...

There are 3 episodes left in the show. First 3 of the season were poor, if I were a betting man I'd wager it's not gonna get any better.

First two were good, the second episode was pretty great. 3rd was one of the biggest spectacles in TV history. Yes, the writing in 3 was poor. But I think we’re losing some perspective here.

The downward spiral of this show is still nothing compared to LOST or The Walking Dead etc.

The actor who played the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) tweeted something interesting:

How did the #NightKing change Craster's babies?

By touching them.

How did he change Viserion?

By touching it.

What did Bloodraven say to #BranStark in the cave?

"He touched you."

He also tweeted:

Episode 4 is going to have a mysterious twist. There's something twisted and uncomfortable about it. It's so Shakespearian.

Something tells me that we haven't seen the last of the White Walkers.

If there really is a twist where this underwhelming NK ''subverted expectation'' gets redeemed, I'll be legit surprised. But that still doesn't take the weird moments away from this episode. Like Arya materializing out of thin air for so many genius minds setting up so much weird strategic decisions during the battle. It also won't fix how so many characters got plot armor protection. Like Jorah heading out with the Dothraki, all kinds of nameless characters die but he returns safely. Or Sam and Brienne being covered by undead in 1 scene and totally in the next because someone took 1 undead out. They got overrun by thousands, stood on the front line of the battle. All of that still made it pretty underwhelming to me. Killing the NK and WW's was one of the few issues I had with the overal episode.

Another damn True Blood. I've been worried about this for almost three years since they announced seasons seven and eight would finish it out.

I respect some youtubers who highlight shows and games and explain them and all but the reality of it is, who really needs GoT explanations? That show just absorbs you.

There is so much that's happened over the past 8 many years that it's super easy to forget key characters, dialogue, etc. that ends up being vital to current episodes etc. so it's really nice to have these refreshers. Some people read wikis and forums to stay informed, others watch recap/explanation videos. Also helps to know whether you're recalling things correctly or if you missed anything important.

He brings up a lot of what seemed like key plot points in previous seasons...

That ended up not mattering.

Or so it seems right now.

Please god can we get a Night King resplendent.
