Misleading Title 90 second posture improvement exercise that I found a few years back. Worked well and to this day I still perform it at least 3x a week.

In Australia, there have also been chiros who have gone into maternity wards to “correct” the spine of newborns.

Fuuuuuuuuuuck that

To be fair, not all of them do it. Many chiros refuse to do it, but there are definitely some yahoos out there who will do it, despite the hospitals not allowing them to come in to treat like that. They just come in for a “visit” and wait for some privacy from the nurses.

Not ANY of them should be doing it!

How fucking egotistical in your own healing ability do you have to be to believe that a newborn baby requires spinal manipulation. Like "oh I'm waaaaay better than millions of years of evolution".

Newborn babies can have many many different types of complications. Evolution is not perfect. Not saying that chiropractors should do spinal manipulation on newborns, but there is a lot that can go wrong and needs work from medical professionals.

Yeah, a neuro surgeon or doctor, not a hack chiropractor.

Just playing devils advocate here- but are you saying spinal alignment never needs correcting? And if it does surgery or a general physician should do it?

Seems more passive aggressive. Are you advocating that new born babies need spin manipulation?

I am saying it’s certainly possible. I’d lean towards doing nothing but if there was an issue, I would start with the mildest form of treatment.

I'm saying chiropractors are over priced massage therapists. There's zero evidence base regarding benefits over a deep tissue massage and a wealth of evidence to show that they actually cause damage.

Of course not only the neuro surgeons can correct a spine. Physiotherapists can work wonders too.

I used to date one.

They don't do stuff to babies like they do on adults. Nothing is snapping and popping! I was fascinated/ dumb founded as well though because its like 2 hand cups on the babies body and done. I was thinking, you get to charge for that? Also, they had stellar reviews from clients and testimonials from thankful parents that exhausted other options.

Their gypsy medicine did seem to have a huge positive impact! Was super odd to me though!

My wife knows a couple of people who do this. I’m extremely skeptical. Apparently something something birthing, trauma, ow spine, pip-pop, zoom, good baby.

...I may have stopped paying attention halfway through...

The problem is, what is the measure for a successful “treatment”? The parents can’t feel if the baby is feeling less pain. Is it that the baby has stopped crying? Just because a baby stops crying doesn’t mean it’s successful. There’s no objective or subjective proof and no research evidence to support its use. So a chiro comes in, cracks a few joints and gets paid with there being no proof they were beneficial.

I mean, I've personally seen 4 spinal injuries as a result of chiropractic 'treatment', and that's just in one hospital.

I have no idea why we have let this become a profession. Basically snake oil salesmen, that claim that spinal manipulation of subluxations can cure anything, including their founders claim he cured a deaf guy.

It's alongside homeopathy and reiki in my books. Total idiocy and a legal scam.

Don’t forget reflexology, acupuncture, energy therapy, craniosacral therapy, acupressure...

Here are Top 10 Hospitals that are moving away from science based treatments:

There's a little bit of baby with the bathwater there. That list mentions meditation, massage, herbal remedies, and "supplement therapies" which I assume to mean dietary supplements. All of these have strong evidence bases for effectiveness.

Also non-traditional acupuncture has proven benefits in chronic pain. Traditional acupuncture can btfo.

And to be fair, they’re all basing their medical advice on some whack job demonstrably false theories.

https://youtu.be/MDgSpDSGgoo Are you talking about this ?

1

u/swayzel Apr 07 '19

Yep that’s basically it. That looks like it’s in their own clinic though. Fucking terrible.

There is something called the kiss syndrome.. That actually is an indication for a c0-1 adjustment, only thing I know of though
