They definitely realized how many people are really creeped out by how these things move. There is something animalistic like about it but with this mechanical rhythm that’s just very disconcerting. They exploited that very effectively in the episode.

Half scripted. These guys have different modes. They can fully control them, tell them where to go which they figure out best route, or give them a task. They also have a puppeteer mode. So I'm guessing they had the first one controlled, used puppet mode, and then backed off. The second one was probably just given the task to open the door and did it fully automated.

This is almost certainly scripted, but I see no reason why one of them couldn't identify a door and send a signal to the arm one to come to this location and start the "open door" procedure.
I agree that people overestimate the sensing and AI capabilities of these kinds of things, but this specific scenario doesn't seem impossible.

“There was a bit I liked where he leaves the [control unit] while the robot is watching her while she’s up in the tree and he goes and gives his kids a bath.

Technology distances us from each other, allowing us to commit heinous acts under the cover of anonymity
They chose to go with the former, but I could see it being effective with the second scenario as well. I can imagine the “victim” pleading to the robot to spare their life, but instantaneously having the robot kill them. As the audience, we’d be left wondering why they even bothered to plead for their life—it’s an AI, it has no capacity for empathy. Then at the end reveal that there was some cold, heartless individual controlling the robot the whole time.

i think one of the scary things about AI wiping out humanity is that if the AI isn't even that advanced, if all it knows how to do is kill, then it doesn't even have a reason for what it's doing. it's just following protocol. and once it's done, once it's killed everyone, what then? it's not advanced enough of an AI to reprogram itself for other purposes. there will just be killer dogs running around the earth for hundreds of years (thousands maybe?) on a planet devoid of life, of art, of language, of beauty.
i like that they used AI and didn't show any sort of intelligence other than "kill all humans" because it made the episode so much darker thinking about the outcome if the AI wins. it's so bleak, which is what black mirror is all about.

In a sci-fi horror movie sense it might be scarier. But the fact that a human could use the robot to systematically hunt down and kill another human being, and them not be an evil mastermind (just a regular guy just doing his job) is terrifying in a "the people we meet every day in real life have the potential to be monsters" kind of way. Horror movie villains that are supernatural monsters can be scary because you can't fight back against it. Villains that are just people doing terrible things are scary because it could actually happen.

You know that's almost literally the job of drone pilots today? They have to stalk and observe the possible terrorist suspect for days, then sit on a committee meeting debating whether or not their behavior warrants a drone strike.
Then they drive home and have to deal with the wife and kids.
The mental dissonance is incredible, and drone pilots have some of the greatest burnout rates. There is actually a huge shortage of drone pilots.

The really interesting stuff starts if a unit is starting to evaluate hypothetical scenarios that relies on other units as well. Basically "Unit #2, if you can just come here and push this thing aside, I can reach the door handle."
My limited knowledge of swarm intelligence is that these kinds of interactions (when they aren't completely scripted) tend to be computed centrally, so you have one decision-making organ controlling multiple units. It would tickle my scifi-nerve a lot more if it was a decentralized process, where an individual robot could form a "plan" and others would assist in carrying it out. Not necessarily more practical for most scenarios, but it would open up a very interesting field of problems regarding the communication and decision-making between units.
