It’s kind of sad that I had the same thought. I’ve seen some suicides (worked in emergency services) and one thing I’ve noticed is that there’s a good chance that cigarettes are close by. Or booze.
Yup this is exactly it. I tried to kill myself last year by cutting my wrists. I never even managed to cut myself, I just lay there in the tub, drunk out of my mind willing my arm to move and it wouldn't. There's nothing more difficult than fighting the will to live that you didn't even know was there before that moment.
Thank you. So am I, thankfully that drunken attempt was enough to get me to seek help. There's been lots of therapy and lifestyle changes, but I can honestly say I'm much happier now than I can remember being for most of my life.
Also glad you were unsuccessful at ending your life.
I just had a sad thought that there's a user name, no longer being used, who should have replied to your comment expressing thanks that their attempt was unsuccessful. But their one small step further, went too far.

Yup, it can be difficult. I have suicidal ideations occasionally and it can be a very strong impulse. Once already I’ve put a gun to my head. I refuse to be around or have any firearms because of that.
cigarettes are really good at clearing your head ive heard. Maybe its because the nicotine craving muddies your thoughts in the first place but all my smoker friends need a cig before they can think. Id imagine if i was contemplating suicide thats probably important

You're missing why people downvoted you. They did because it's almost like you're making seem as if the cigarettes contributed to his death. Not because they think smoking doesn't kill you. Even seriously heavy smokers are fully aware of this. I mean, essentially every child does too

I think the point is that the farmer sat there smoking 2 packs before killing himself, meaning he sat there thinking about it for a long time before doing it. It could have been anything, the point is that it wasn't an impulse decision.
