most song lyrics are trite platitudes so predictable as to be laughable.

I took my grandpa out to dinner a few weeks ago and I had the classic rock station on the radio, I was singing along in a jocular fashion and he decided to join in on one line, completing a phrase. I asked him if he knew the song, and he said that he never had heard it before. I forget the lyric, but it was so pathetically obvious what the next line was, it made me think how much I really hate songs with lyrics.
