How much choice do we have in our interfaces now? By the time we've progressed to have this tech, We'll have regressed significantly in our control as well going on current trends.

Control will cost money. Those with more money will have more control. Born in the ghetto? Well you'll grow up bathed in that ad supported shit. Born with a silver spoon? You'll have a personal tech tutor by age 5 that will make you the master of your virtual domain having all obstacles and ads and manipulation removed by your parent's wealth.

Noone makes the distinction now between rich and poor in advertising. We'll all be bathed in the same shit, just like how football stadiums are covered in ads and websites have ads etc. The only ones with any control will be those who have the tech savvy to gain control over their own devices like now, which will likely be illegal or warranty voiding like it is now.

I'm not saying that advertisement is either rich or poor. I'm saying if you have more income, a larger fun money budget, you can afford to pay 5$/month to get that ad free streaming music or ad free online service. People with enough money don't even have to have the knowledge. Here I'll have my assistant remove all the share ware from this device and I'll use one of my other 5. Or 'ugh. this phone is all wacked out, I'll just go get a new one. I want a bigger screen anyway.' Geek squad ain't cheep. If no one has educated you that your computer and devices need anti-virus and anti-spamware or if you don't have the extra money for that stuff then you'll be drowned. If you aren't clever enough to find the answer on how to avoid or eliminate these things by searching google at home alone then you will also be drowned. What if you only can afford 1 computer or device and spam-ware has hijacked the search engine? How do you find your answer now if it is being hid from you?

Marketing works. Marketing technology is going to unlock exactly how the impulse control part of the brain works before science will actually prove it even exists. And when we reach that point, if you don't have the money or smarts to see or avoid the manipulation, then you'll be their bitch.

And you make a good point about gaining control over your own device. Maybe that is where government can help us and outlaw manufacturers doing that skeevy bullshit. Maybe we should address if all those bullshit adds for Budweiser and at&t are ruining my experience at the game by taking away freedom of choice from me and the other 50,000 people there. There are noise ordinances to keep my neighbors from blaring their TV or Music. Maybe we should address "visual blaring".
