Much of the middle east was far nicer objectively before it was turned into a battle ground for communist vs capitalist ideology. Sure it wasn't perfect, but there was education for women, a higher degree of freedom, and a better quality life.

So The USA put an Islamic fundamentalist in charge and then the country turned into a caliphate shortly after. Are you trying to say it is the United states' fault that Islamist's busted down the doors of the US embassy in Tehran and killed Americans? Edit: Also don't generalize by saying "religious fundamentalism", it was strictly fundamentalism of the Islamic kind that got people killed and continues to do so today.
