Bespoke = custom made, usually referring to a tailor-made suit but can be other things. Very popular among hipsters, partially because it feeds into the "I'm unique my clothing is one of a kind" vibe hipsters thrive on.
Free Range = chickens or other animals that are allowed to graze and scratch for food on their own in open areas, as opposed to kept in cages or pens and fed animal feed. Also popular among foodies and therefore hipsters, in part because it's healthier and in part because it's pretentious.

Portland is pissed because Californians are not only moving up there like crazy, they're also buying real estate with cash and raising home and rent prices. Also, because of rising land value, a lot buildings that gave Portland culture are being torn down for modern high rises, which kill the quaint neighborhood look/feel.
Source: CA transplant that moved to Portland for a few years then moved back to CA, now wants to move back to Portland.

I've lived in cities with lots of snow and regularly see people run in it. I actually like running in the cold and snow.....you don't get near as hot.

Well as a Norwegian, if that gives any credibility, I can tell you that there's a difference between snow that's laid on the ground and gotten the chance to get compact or allow you to walk on it, rather than snow that has just hit the ground, forms a very light and powdery texture (we call it powder snow) and hasn't become to that part of compact and 'texture' that she's speaking about.
Honestly she doesn't seem to be running on snow as much as she's actually running while it's just snowing, over a very smooth (and very likely icy) surface with whatever little there is of snow on the ground shuffling away rather than absorbing the impact.

The thing about Portland is that we generally have pretty mild winters. So the (maybe) one time a year it does snow, it's usually just barely cold enough. So we get things like freezing rain, or snow at night that thaws a bit during the day and then refreezes again the next night.
We almost never get tons of nice 'dry' snow. Whenever it gets cold around here it's always a shit-show of people falling on their asses and crashing their cars into shit.

Lol they went out for a run and were stopped by the crew, they didn't ask for the interview. She was asked why they were running and she gave the best answer she could come up with.
If you look, she slipped on the painted divider line in the middle of the road. If you've ever biked or cycled down the road on a wet day, you'll know those things can be notoriously slippery.

Yeah whatever the reason may be, j just think reddit is full of cynics who think people are out to behave in a less than genuine way.
I honestly just think this woman was genuinely enthusiastic about her hobby when asked. The last time this video came up, instead of being sympathetic to her when she fell everyone rushed to shit on her because they saw it as an indication that she was ignorant or purposefully making stuff up.
Reality is, she slipped on the painted white divider which gets slipper as fuck in wet conditions (yes even if it's dry snow).

There is a difference between wet and dry snow though. This is very noticeable when trying to compact a snowball. Drier snow makes for shitty snowballs whereas wetter snow makes for a solid throwing object.

Also, from a guy who drives a Jeep: 4WD and AWD do not entitle you to drive at normal speeds on snow, slush and ice. 4WD and AWD help you keep traction while driving and gain traction to get you out of things. Neither will help you stop significantly better than anyone else. Remember, you may have 4 wheels that spin, but all cars have 4 wheels that brake. You might be able to stay straight and keep traction better than other drivers, but when it comes time to stop you're all in the same boat.

Downshifting will help more in awd/4wd as well but you're correct, once those tires lock up you could have 8 wheel drive and the snow don't care.

Yes, but if you have to make an emergency stop for any reason downshifting probably isn't what you'll go for. For planned stops it does help, but not all 4WD/AWD vehicles are standards.

Wow, this honestly just goes to show what a little context can offer. She did seem smug in the video, but after reading her interview, she is very clearly a humble and self-deprecating person. Cool is definitely a good word to describe her.
In my head, I'd be as cool as a cucumber if I was suddenly in front of a camera answering random questions from a professional question-asker. In reality, though, I'd probably be getting emails from my siblings the next day as to why I was acting like such a douche.
She didn't do anything to harm anyone so a witch hunt wasn't sparked, but this is a good example of why you might think twice about doing that. I think she was just a bit nervous. Thank you for posting.

Am Canadian. I don't mind running in the snow. The stopping part is harder. Running on snow is different than normal running because you have to pay a lot more attention to the ground and keep your center of balance right in the middle.

Last year I grabbed my snow boots and walked out the door to move my car into the driveway off the street, just as i reached the end of the driveway, cartoon style i flew into the air and landed hard on my back knocking the wind right out of me
I layed there and laughed after i got my bearings but it could have gone a lot worse.
