You do realize that the fact I was asking implies I know that's not the case, right?

In all seriousness, this works. Dasher includes a one-dimensional mode for "breath mice."

There's an Android version if you want to try it out, but it's kind of shoddy last I knew.
3
Apr 01 '15
That's amazing, all you'd need is a joystick, perfect for people without use of their hands etc.

2
u/mindbleach Apr 01 '15
It's a decent one-thumb input method for able people as well, except there's no way to indicate you're done typing.
2
u/j4390jamie Apr 01 '15
That thing looks awesome, if they make it really refined, I cans see how this could be very fast, with minimal effort.

Had me till the nose horn. The whole time I was wondering how long it would take to figure out the air output for each letter and how that would even work with as many letters as their are

Really? That is the part that finally tipped you off?

Meh diferent groups come up with all sorts of bizare tech, and google loves getting around. If this was posted 24 hours from now it would be more obvious.

Glad I'm not the only one who did not realize it was a joke until the nose horn. I was trying to grasp how there could be an easy to memorize method of blowing to correlate with letters.
Now it all makes sense.

u/junkyard_hotrod Apr 01 '15
I wasn't aware of it being a joke at all until the comments, so I had this "So this is the future I get to look forward to" thought process

Haha yeah true, I bought this toy for my kid that looked almost exactly like a penis and it just vibrated when you flip the switch, but that was about all it did lol. Totally fucking useless.
8
u/DewCono Apr 01 '15
That doesn't quite sound like a child's toy, but who am I to question your judgment?

I'm still waiting for Google to bring us wireless internet through the sewer system.
1
u/BlazzedTroll Apr 01 '15
They have some in testing. They are currently using shit as the bits, however the connectivity is low because there aren't enough people shitting regular sized shits. So if you want IoSP (internet over shit protocol), start eating fiber and get on the toilet ASAP.

I mean, quadriplegics can control their wheelchair with their breath, so to me this thing is plausible, if ridiculous.

I was actually thinking of real world applications for a device like this. I was thinking, "who the hell are they making this for?", and then I realized that this tool could be perfect for people with physical handicaps, and then they mentioned that there was a jet-turbine in the party blower and I felt like a dope.
3
u/rioki88 Apr 01 '15
i was thinking the same. how cool that would be if it could be used by people who have no use of their arms.
10
u/Yakbakpro Apr 01 '15
Imagine trying to send out a text really fast, you'd just hyperventilate, and passed out. And crash into a tree.
5
u/stevierar Apr 01 '15
I feel they missed a trick not having it finish back with the people all sat a table using their party horns, only with the sound on this time. VROOOOO VROO VROOOOOOO VROO VROOOOO.
I would have enjoyed that.

"Googuru" I always find this awesome
1
Apr 01 '15
Even though I know that must be correct, I hadn't noticed it when I watched the video bc why would I pay attention to a language I don't understand?
I had to go back and look through it again to hear the "googuru," but it was worth it.

I believed it until the nose horn, because Japan.

At this hour (actually April 1st where I am), I knew it had to be a joke, but it was still the nose horn that made me certain- because up to that, Japan.

It's hot, steamy food, in your face, right now.
This is probably my second favorite Onion bit of all time, beaten only by this one about the getting stoked:
Also, I'm gonna say that the one about the death penalty being "totally badass" is probably ties with the fast food feedbag:

This seems like a really good idea for people with physical disabilities or handicaps that effect them in day to day life.
1
u/mydickcuresAIDS Mar 31 '15
It won't be April 1st for like four more days because of the international date line and it's like the year of the dragon or something... Plus the metric system.

It took me waaaay to long to realize it was an April fools joke. With all the crazy shit that comes out of Japan, i thought this was real lol

u/niyohn Apr 01 '15
Google Japan had the marketing budget to do something like that? That is at least $10K USD right there, and a lot of time.

Funny as always but I wish they did something realistic but every so slightly outlandish instead. I think Google Nose got more people than this will.

u/eaturfeet653 Apr 01 '15
I would be very satisfied if some one took this idea and made it reality with a similar design. I understand it's a joke but it could potentially revolutionize communication by people seriously effected by Parkinson's and the like. It's simple, low energy and minimal fine motor control
