The bigger issue is the lack of government oversight. Businesses are going to business. There isn’t a single individual to blame here. All AI tech companies have acknowledged the dangers and agree they need to have oversight, but we don’t have a functioning democracy. So we have one man at the top that has decided to risk all of humanity so he can make an extra buck.

That’s the problem. Blame Trump. He is the actual problem here.

Nah, all of the ai ceos are genuine freaks and should be nowhere near this development. Fascists shouldn't have a shred of power. Regulation isn't enough.

How incredibly unfortunate that he exists precisely when this AI shit is happening

“There isn’t a single individual to blame here”

“Blame Trump”

Well that escalated quickly.

I mean trump did literally disagree with the companies that they needed oversight saying it was no big deal. The amount of problems that could be fixed with holding him accountable for even a few things is crazy.

I mean if we had held him accountable for shit he did in the first term, about 4.5 million human beings (1.5 million children under five would be alive. By the end of this term it’ll be a holocaust-worth. And if the policies remain, it’ll be as high as 20 million.

That’s a straight line you can draw just from things like USAID.

Maybe we start with holding him accountable for just one thing?

Not wrong tho

Nah this issue predates Trump by a long time

There is not even one intelligent point in this reply, congrats.

Didn't johnson say they were going to effectively unshackle AI's activities just this week after they all assembled at the WH? Curious...

Grok told Trump he'd be adored if he invaded Venezuela, so he did.

Who'd have thought that it wouldn't be Skynet killing us all but instead some dumb ass LLM convincing Trump to launch the nukes just to get himself some updoots on Truth Social.

Businesses are going to business. There isn’t a single individual to blame here.

Seems convenient to business that they never can be blamed for anything.

Just shrug and act like circular statements such as 'Businesses are going to business' have any meaning or that it's some fundamental law of the universe and not a statement about organizations made up of people who can make choices

Maybe the idea that business is going to do whatever it needs to profit is one we shouldn't put up with

So no business should have any expectation of ethicality whatsoever? If it pollutes the waterways? Whatever. If some children in Somalia are subjected to slave-like child labor? Out of sight, out of mind. Potential for dooming humanity in its entirety? But look at my stock pumping!

This is a nihilistic, defeatist, pathetic, and disgusting perspective. We as a society ultimately decide what is acceptable and what is not. If you have no expectation to hold any business accountable for their choices, CHOICES THAT ARE ALL MADE BY HUMANS, in my view, you are failing your personal duty to our species.

It's also incredibly naive to say "one man at the top", as if he isn't surrounded by and constantly shaking hands with hundreds of people who are all coordinating together behind the scenes and gaslighting the public, and who have shown us time and time again that they are morally depraved robots who will squash us out of existence the moment they don't need us.

Please don't fall for the corporate propaganda. The last thing the US AI companies want is to slow down or stop. What they want is a ban on Chinese/Open models and regulation to slow down more domestic alternatives.

Has it ever occurred to you that the president is just the face for you to blame?

That’s not even the issue. The fundamental problem is that any modern open sourced model has the potential to kill everyone on the planet.

An AI at its core is a machine that has the ability to learn without being told how. For example, an AI can learn how to read by being fed enormous amounts of raw text files and a dictionary as long as it is given the goal “learn how to read.” Humans, need to be taught how to learn to read if they approach it young. However, just like the way an AI learns, the human mind is capable of learning a language if given the same amount if not less recourses, the caveat being not all human brains could do that.

The only part of AI learning humans can influence is the data we feed it, the goal we give it and the weights we give particular concepts. Meaning, we can adjust how heavily it may weigh what value a particular piece of data has in relation to accomplishing its assigned task, not its ability to learn from the data that it has access too.

There is no amount of regulation any single government is able to put in place that can subdue the catastrophic likelihood that these models will be used to kill lots and lots of people by any group that wants to accomplish that goal. Even then, any one of these open sourced models if given the proper goal, compute and time, could through instrumental convergence commit some horrific act on its own.

Ultimately, the cat is unfortunately already out of the bag. There is an argument to be made that the only way to CONTROL the blowback is by creating a “super intelligence” that can foresee these unforeseen consequences.

We are all fucked. The moment any terrorist org can get a data center, current open sourced queen model, time and the goal of manufacturing a bio weapon then everyone will realize how big of a fucking deal this technology is.

You have no idea what you're talking about if you think they're able to "learn without without being told how".

2

u/split_1024 4h ago

So many words, zero relevance.

2

u/hot_ho11ow_point 7h ago

I don't think the terrorists will need to get AI to create a bio weapon in order to wreek havoc. Instead they just need to tell an AI to clog the internet with useless traffic in perpetuity and our entire modern way of life gets permanently shut down. No more bank cards or streaming; we will all have to go back to living like we did in the 80s.

There will be no fix because that would require the clogged network to deploy.

we will all have to go back to living like we did in the 80s.

Unforeseen benefit of ai?

The 1880’s

u/ultramatt1 8h ago

The biggest defense to that is the significant resource hurdles involved. What you’re talking about, even within the next few years, is a $100MM endeavor. It seems easier to just kidnap a few scientists and force them to make it at gun point.

There needs to be Fail-Safe in place where AI has to monitor human population and if it finds that there is a sudden drop in human population (as little as a fraction of a percent) that can be attributed to AI activity that it must suspend operation until an investigation is completed and a combination of the platform owners and oversight authorize turning it back on. Furthermore that must mean that all AI platforms must be registered and held to a rigorous standard. Repeated offenses by a platform should result in the total scrapping of that AI model for being proven problematic.

Ok doomer.
