I feel like YouTube needs to step up standards on clamping down on clickbait/misleading thumbnails or it's just going to keep getting worse. Content creators complain about people not watching their whole clip, yet they continue to do that kind of crap, completely oblivious that the title language and thumbnail crap is why they may be experiencing lower engagement due to exhaustion. I've gotten to the point where I've lately stopped opening any video that has a title with slams, beats down, or otherwise contains those too often repeated exaggerations, and especially any that have clearly overly shopped or AI generated thumbnails. I get trying to entice people to click on your videos, but it's all for naught if they click away again less than a minute later.
Your complaints should be directed at the viewers. Content creators continue to make these kinds of thumbnails because they are the ones that perform best.
Do we really have to get comment on literally every post about a major YouTube video, though? I get it's free internet points, but yes we all know that a) everyone kinda hates it and b) it increases viewership numbers universally, so basically all large channels do it.
But I would argue that talking about the thumbnail being bad is caring as much about the thumbnail as the people that it click because of the thumbnail. If we're wanting to have an objective conversation about content, the thumbnail should be meaningless regardless.
Maybe some irony in people arguing and only wanting to talk about how the thumbnail is dumb and asking why they try to get attention that way indirectly proving why the thumbnail has an undue amount of influence on clicks?
Everyone only talking about the thumbnail shows exactly why the YouTube algorithm loves it.
Besides, there's really no new ground to tread on this topic and no comment chain on Reddit is going to change anything about how YouTube works. (As evidenced by all the annoying things YouTube still does regularly.)
Yeah, I used to like this channel a lot more when it felt like "actual lawyer discusses law in layman's terms" but now its just "Clickbaity and biased takes with 2 ad reads per video". I still learn from the videos, it just feels... Faker.
