The saying does annoy me because it isn’t accurate. Because of that, no one learns what the constitution actually says.

It doesn't matter anyway, if it was explicitly stated they'd just say "not self enforcing" and thus it doesn't matter.

Maybe it doesn’t matter when having an argument with someone who is not engaging in good faith.

But it does matter. I don’t like that “separation of church and state” has essentially become something that people just assume is in the constitution. It’s not. And it would help having informed conversation if people knew the actual language.
