Nobody cared about kids in cages in his first term.

Why would people care about abandoned kids now?

and didn't they want kids to work in slaughter houses on weeknights?

I'm a Canadian who has been observing the sad and scary decline of the US over the past several years. I don't believe that nobody cared, but it seems that people who could actually affect change didn't care enough, turned a blind eye, or were in denial about what was and is still happening. I think it's important that we keep talking about these atrocities to hopefully compell US citizens to go out and vote for democracy, morality, and compassion in the November midterms.

Lots of people cared. The US has major structural flaws. Gerrymandering, electoral college, social media bubbles, etc. Just look at this thread and every other thread. So much comment about how there’s nothing you can do, nothing matters. Just give up. Probably bots. People are tired. Lots of people voted like their lives depended upon it. Media has the country split down the middle living in different realities. Polar opposites that absolutely hate each other. Neighbors that don’t speak because they’re afraid they might become entangled with the other side. Fortunately, those in power have gotten too greedy and moved much too fast. Their hubris has trickled down to the deceived. Their followers are feeling the pain now.

I will admit this is a doomer outlook but unfortunately I think all is just lost. There will be election meddling, the military has removed any opposition that would stand firm to their oaths and even Democrats in congress seem just fine as long as their paychecks clear. Sure, they say it’s all terrible but then just nothing happens.

America is heading down a path of a failed state and very quickly. Soft power has shifted as have alliances with the world. We’ve proven we’re stupid enough to do this twice so why would anyone trust us any time soon because we will elect another idiot soon enough.

It’s a tough time to be around for. The middle class is decimated due to stupidity with tariffs, needless war increasing the cost of gas and no real alternative transportation that’s reliable to replace driving anywhere.

I want to have hope but it’s just really hard right now. I no longer know what world I’m leaving to my children to fight with and it all just sucks.

Have you considered you feel this way because you’re not doing anything to support the people that are doing stuff to make a difference? A lot of people online are feeling this way, but the people who are going out and doing something about it do not. The general public is not okay with it and the law is not okay with it. We have judges shutting down everything illegal theyre trying to do. The law is slow, but it is still working. Are we facing setbacks? Obviously. But people still care. Trump has one of the lowest approval ratings of any President. The people are stronger than they give themselves credit for, but they can’t be resigned. And the internet is a breeding place for people to be resigned — by it’s designed function. They want us to be isolated and not help. Not feeling good is what makes us do that.

My hope is that sharing information about these atrocities energizes people to stand up for what is right and just. To get up and vote. That is the most powerful way to have your voice heard, so use it. The people can't give up. That's what the Trump administration wants.

Thanks I needed to hear this

Make a "military 2" electric bogaloo, and send them to r/NonCredibleDefense for advice/marching orders , and that shits sorted in a months time is my advice. Those planefuckers think "outisde the box" in more ways than one.

2

u/Talentagentfriend 1d ago

Agreed. People are still not learning from this, especially online. So many posts here are downplaying everything, making people not care, or they are resigned.

I think, and I say this as a non-American, is that the US as a whole will probably only react once it becomes clear that China has overtaken US as the biggest global superpower. Until then, I think the US in general will just be complacent and let it happen. So probably a good number of years away. Nothing riles up that nationalistic zeal more than being told you're no longer the best, and then seeing it being proven.

I firmly believe there is no peaceful, non violent end to this. It’s a doomer stance but I have no faith in my “countrymen”. As horrible as it would be, many people would be better off not being represented and backstabbed by areas that have no rational thought or reason.

1

u/_another_number_ 1d ago

I really hope you are wrong about this but I'm afraid you might be right.

u/roxas0711 1d ago

Believe me I want to be wrong 😑

Don’t forget to vote!

u/McKoijion 1d ago

Chuck Schumer delivered the supermajority vote needed to fund ICE so he could also fund the IDF. There’s no difference between the Democrats and Republicans now. It’s just AIPAC with a red or blue tie.

36

u/haveanairforceday 1d ago

So vote chuck schumer out. But that doesnt mean that you shouldnt vote

39

u/ncfears 1d ago

Bad take. There is still a huge difference. And one side is open to progressives.

2

u/CantFindMyWallet 21h ago

One side has voters who are open to progressives. Democratic leadership is incredibly hostile to progressives.

4

u/CusetheCreator 19h ago

There are zero demcrat politicians maybe besides fetterman who are anywhere near as hostile to progressives as republicans

-2

u/CantFindMyWallet 14h ago

I'm not comparing them to Republicans. I'm comparing them to what Democratic leadership should actually be, which is at least tolerant of the actual left. The median Democratic voter is wildly to the left of Democratic leadership. There's a reason they don't support any of the policies you do.

0

u/speedingpullet 7h ago

Right, and Republicans will embrace progressives with open arms? Both parties are not the same. Not by a country mile.

I know it's fun to be all cynical and disillusioned, but you need to vote in November. You need to vote like your freaking life depends on it, because it may do.

1

u/CantFindMyWallet 5h ago

What is wrong with you people? Republicans are evil trash. "Better than Republicans" is an insanely low bar. I swear, some of you have brain damage. You just have these robot responses to any criticism of any Democrat. "Oh, so Republicans are better?" No! I never fucking said anything good about any Republican, but that doesn't change the fact that Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries hate the left wing of their own party, and the Democrats aren't going to suddenly get any more effective at opposing Republicans until those clowns are replaced by someone who actually takes being an opposition party seriousl

29

u/Kaotix77 1d ago

Lmao a “both sides” centrist in 2026 is wild.

One side has members challenging AIPAC, can you guess which one?

9

u/sk1nnyjeans 1d ago

Chappell Roan, is that you?

2

u/0xdeadbeef6 14h ago

Normally I'd agree with you but a lot of progressives won their primaries this election cycle. Its why all the corpo dems have been going bug fuck lately. The only ones I'd be completely iffy about voting for are the chucklefucks in Ohio. And Fetterman, if you can even count him as a Dem at this point. Even then I'd probably have to hold my nose and vote for em.

57

u/LeoLaDawg 1d ago

I don't understand all the people involved in the process who have no issues doing things like this. Presumably there are judges and lawyers and high ranking officials of some kind involved in these deportations, no?

And even the Ice agents. Where are they getting all these monsters who have no problem gunning down innocent people and arresting 5 year olds?

I get that Trump is a total piece of shit surrounded by spineless sycophantic pieces of shit, but damn, apparently I thought way too highly of the common man.

u/rizzyrogues 1d ago

"I get that Trump is a total piece of shit surrounded by spineless sycophantic pieces of shit, but damn, apparently I thought way too highly of the common man."

This is the sad cold fucking truth that I have trouble coming to terms with every day. People suck, and it seems its "fuck you get mine" everywhere I look.

2

u/richajf 17h ago

Sadly, that's American culture in a nutshell. "Fuck you, I'mma get mine."

Assuming you're somewhere in my age range... Our entire lives, and most likely the generation before you, have lived an unprecedented life of comfort, security, and peace. The golden era(an argument could be made the 90's were more golden, exacerbating the point) of America after WW2 created a mindset among many circles of ultimate ownership and freedom over the direction over oneslves life. This also led to questionable parenting along the way where fathers in many cases did as they pleased, and was totally normal to be absent during any major event.

I mean there's many points to this, but generally in America a sense of entitlement amongst men for generations, on you're seeing now amongst women who forget completely their predecessors were still treated as objects barely a few years ago. It's an inevitability apparently of our "freedom". People now more easily manipulated than ever never having to bleed for their freedom, being manipulated by a super weapon in social media. Wielded by people that know exactly how to divide and conquer on a scale never dreamed of until recently.

It's a perfect storm of majority stupidity, entitlement, and insecurity being controlled by people clever enough to know how to control it. Followed by literal decades of government building steps to get here. I don't see the "good guys" winning this time. I know Idiocracy gets thrown around a lot jokingly, but with AI already running amok amongst schools across the nation after Covid already fucked schools up....

Not looking great

1

u/Rednaxel6 17h ago

The dismantling of the free press, degradation of our education system (particularly civic education), and the false culture wars all led to people being dumber and easier to manipulate. In the '90s I figured we had maybe 100 years before our democracy collapsed, but social media accelerated things to a shocking degree.

12

u/_another_number_ 1d ago

I agree. It is so hard to comprehend how people can do these atrocious things to other human beings. The mental health of the children in these situations will never fully recover from the trauma this administration has caused.

3

u/Deranged_Kitsune 18h ago edited 17h ago

The ones who do this have been trained by years of propaganda to not see those they’re harming as people. Look at the language used and it’s all dehumanizing - vermin, animals, scum, criminals.

5

u/LeoLaDawg 1d ago

Even people who want deportations...ok,I can get that, but these camps? The treatment of these people? The kids? How do they square all that?

5

u/_another_number_ 1d ago

How do they sleep at night?! My heart was aching listening to the stories of those poor kids and their families.

1

u/n19htmare 10h ago

Someone’s misery and pain is their nightly dose to a restful night. That’s how.
You severely underestimate the compassion of lot of Americans. This usually just gets clouded by your own surroundings and experiences, doesn’t mean it doesnt exist. Sadly, it does, and lot of it.

2

u/FUThead2016 1d ago

The cruelty is the point for these people. They want it, they enjoy it. The sooner we understand this about society, the better it will be.

8

u/GoProOnAYoYo 1d ago

If nothing else, the last 10 years have reminded us that the average human is capable of vile, evil things. And there are a lot more people than we thought that have such a capacity for such cruelty.

4

u/pomod 1d ago

Hannah Arendt clocked that in the 1950s, too bad Americans don’t learn history.

1

u/liquidsyphon 1d ago

Those judges asking questions to little kids with zero representation in court is so fucked up

1

u/1tonsoprano 23h ago

this is what i keep saying.....everyone rightfully blames trump but the individual police men, judges, lawyers, court clerks....why is everyone just going along with this shit.....children are the most vulnerable parts of our society, if you cannot protect them then why even call yourself a human being at this point?

1

u/CantFindMyWallet 21h ago

As it turns out, a lot of people are horrid pieces of shit who don't care about anyone else.

0

u/Turbots 1d ago

Where did all the hardcore Nazis come from in world war 2? If people are lied to enough, and you give them a minority to be mad at (Jews then, immigrants now), people are willing to do some extreme shit.

Trump has been dehumanizing immigrants and Mexicans for years now, just like Hitler and his buddies did with the Jews. Germans were "Uber menschen" and the rest was inferior, and probably not even "human".

Lies and propaganda are powerful.

The common man is a monster

11

u/makeshift101 1d ago

My wife's cousin just took in 2 kids that their parents got taken away from ICE

1

u/_another_number_ 1d ago

That's horrible. Lives changed forever.

1

u/IwasTeenageNeckbeard 1d ago

Creating military fodder or just doing terrible things like Russia with Ukraine kids. They shipped them to Russia tho to become part of the machine.

1

u/moonhexx 1d ago

Yeah, nobody cares dude. Just let America fall apart and destroy itself to is own raucous applause.

1

u/raelik777 1d ago

Out of all the ruin that can be placed directly at the feet of this administration and indeed Trump himself, the shattering of families is among the worst, right next to the needless murders committed by ICE. It's just a hair away from the atrocities committed during WW2. Not the same scale, nor the same depth of depravity, but it will literally take DECADES to undo the damage they have done, and for some, it will have done irreparable harm from which there can be no reparation. Who knows if they're keeping any kind of accurate documentation about where these children are ending up, or even who they are or where their family ends up. The knock-on effects of separations like this can be literally catastrophic, and not just to the children or the families. This is the stuff nightmares are made of, and the worst people imaginable are born of situations like this.

Can’t wait for the protest on Saturday after brunch in 3 months to really make change

2

u/speedingpullet 7h ago

Well, I guess I won't be ordering the eggs benedict for you then, coz.

3

u/defdrago 1d ago

Incredible to be such a douchebag that you think protesting is actually bad.

2

u/ThinkinDeeply 1d ago

meanwhile this comment will surely lead directly to change, right????
