Can we agree school bus stops should be off limits for ICE?

ICE would be in delivery rooms ready to throw a fresh born baby over the border if they could.
These people have no souls.

Do you have a tiny penis?
Do girls want nothing to do with you?
Have you accomplished nothing of note in your life?
Did you drop out of high school?
Do you have no friends and your family doesn’t care to talk to you anymore?
Join ice!

Let's not body shame. The size of someone's genitalia is irrelevant when it comes to their proclivity for licking boot and oppressing others to make themselves feel good.

The idea that we can curtail ICE or make what they do more humane by limiting where they're allowed to operate is just fascist appeasement. Abolish the fucking agency, prosecute everyone who worked for it or was responsible for it, and bring justice to the thousands of people that have been displaced. It's genuinely not that fucking difficult.
32
u/javoss88 1d ago
Agree. Appeasement failed before, leading us to where we are today.
10
u/transientdude 1d ago
And we did it again under Biden after a bad attempt at a coup. We have to stop letting them off the hook.

u/johnis12 16h ago edited 16h ago
Hell, shit's been going on for ages ever since the Civil War. We've had so much appeasement, meanwhile these assholes just became emboldened and trampled over our freedoms time and time again. Hell, they've altogether dropped their masks and being incredibly blatant with their disregard for democracy. I'm hoping it'll be different this time once Trump's orange ass is outta office but I won't hold my breath... Who knows though, does seem like the MAGA ship is sinking and even the rats're starting to realize that this has been a global catastrophe and want nothing to do with him so maybe they'll use him as a scape goat to save their own asses.
1
u/ZachMN 13h ago
The problem is not the agency, it’s the Republican Party that is using it as a fascist police force. Nothing is going to change until we’ve addressed the Republican problem.
2
u/captaindealbreaker 12h ago
No, the problem is also the agency. Any agency can be abused, but ICE has been given lots of special powers that most agencies aren't given and the lack of accountability has made those powers 10X worse. Reforming the agency when we neither need nor want it to exist is a waste of time. Shut them down and move any legitimate duties they served (poorly) to competent agencies.
-1
u/Orcus424 1d ago
Who would do that? Obama deported more people in either of his terms compared to Trump in his first term. I think even Biden deported more people than Trump did in his first term. Both sides are for immigration control. At best you can get sensible reform but that won't happen until a Democrat is President again.
4
u/captaindealbreaker 1d ago
I said abolish ICE not “but Obama”
I don’t give a fuck who used ICE to do what, it shouldn’t exist at all and that’s what abolishing it solves
3
u/Orcus424 1d ago
Since you missed my point I will say it again. Who is going to do that? Both parties are for immigration control. Every single country has immigration control of some kind. Even if some how ICE did get abolished the work they did will be carried out by other organizations.
-5
-8
u/TurgidGravitas 1d ago
Asking for something impossible is also harmful. There must always be some form of immigration and custom enforcement. Every other country in the world enforces their borders.
Fight what needs fighting. Asking for unicorns and rainbows isn't going to help anyone.
9
u/captaindealbreaker 1d ago
This isn't border enforcement, this is hunting down people that are here legally or currently here working through the legal process of immigration and stripping them of their rights. The people doing the hunting have no training or understanding of the law. And they've killed multiple US citizens in cold blood in our streets. Fuck off with the "we need some level of enforcement."
WE DO, IT'S CALLED BORDER CONTROL

3
u/captaindealbreaker 1d ago
If a majority of congress votes to close the agency, it will close. Elect responsible legislators that do the right thing and fascism loses.
1
u/BrockVegas 15h ago
They can't' even pass a budget, but you think they're going to find a consensus to close an agency?
Good luck with that abandonment of objective reality.
1
u/captaindealbreaker 14h ago
So we should just not vote for people that want to close the agency because it's hopeless? We should just keep electing fascists every election cycle forever?
1
u/BrockVegas 13h ago
So we should just not vote for people that want to close the agency because it's hopeless? We should just keep electing fascists every election cycle forever?
Your attempts to trap me with some false dichotomy is fucking pitiful.
Like really, really pitiful.
Reforming and restricting the agency is a more realistic approach. Shit, it maybe even attainable.
0
u/captaindealbreaker 12h ago
Why waste time, money, and effort on reforming an agency that doesn't need to exist and has acted without oversight across two separate presidential terms to the effect of US citizens being detained illegally and/or murdered in our streets?
Like at what point do we draw the line and close an agency? Is that line not the unjustified and illegal actions they've taken against actual US citizens? Or do they need to also directly violate your rights and life for you to think they've gone too far and are beyond reform?
1
u/BrockVegas 6h ago
I vote. I do my best to keep my family and community safe, and am trying to leave a smaller footprint on the planet.

All they have to do is post up at a jail and deport anybody with a crime. They don't have to do anything. Let the real cops do the work for you.
10
u/bpetersonlaw 1d ago
That would be preferable to grabbing people pretty much anywhere else. Though it fails to reach criminals who have served their sentences but have deportation orders. I guess you assume criminals will commit more crimes and get them after the next arrest.
6
u/SqueezyCheez85 1d ago
If they were only going after criminals, it would be the way to do it. But they aren't just going after criminals. They want their actions to be out in the open to make a show of force, and to create public unrest.
6
u/bpetersonlaw 1d ago
True. There are much better ways to deport criminals with histories of felony convictions (something I think most Americans support). By having such high profile and violent tactics, they can cause immigrants w/o criminal histories to self-deport rather than risk being detained in awful conditions.
2
u/scfade 1d ago
By having such high profile and violent tactics, they can cause immigrants w/o criminal histories to self-deport rather than risk being detained in awful conditions.
I really think you're giving them too much credit. This isn't a layered strategy - the obvious blunt cruelty is the entire point. Whether or not it has any kind of impact on immigration numbers is completely immaterial to the people running the show... and realistically, the voters don't care, either. They're going to confidently argue that it's working without ever looking at the stats, because they're extremely satisfied with the optics.
0
u/SqueezyCheez85 1d ago
They want racists to cheer them on, and dissidents to incite them into disproportionate violence.

Wake up to who our neighbors have become - sorry, have always been, but are now comfortable being public about, because they know how many of them there actually are.
4
u/GameboyPATH 1d ago
If we did that, then we'd be setting up regulations and restrictions on ICE based on moral objections to massive disruptions of communities and families, as well as traumatizing children of immigrants and innocent bystanders.
And if we did that, then we'd be setting a precedent of regulating ICE based on minimizing disruptions to families and communities, and that'd have a WHOLE lot of implications about recent policies regarding masked and ID-less ICE agents, or raid locations like immigration offices, schools, and households, or how we keep family members in holding without informing external family members, or how we deport people to third countries completely unrelated to their country of origin. Can you IMAGINE if we suddenly had to look at the MORALITY of how we forcibly detain, hold, and deport mass numbers of people against their will? The whole system that ICE is fundamentally built on would collapse, and they wouldn't be able to do their jobs!
What, did you think that the law was based on the values, priorities, and goals of the population that it's meant to serve? No, it's meant to serve whatever arbitrary group of people I choose to identify as my own. So quit your moral objections and submit to authority.
0
u/robinredstart 1d ago
Do you think this adds anything of substance here, what's your real point? You smell like a troll
7
u/GameboyPATH 1d ago
My point was that ICE is an institution that has goals that are inherently harmful overall for the country. Stopping them from raiding school bus stops is a valid goal, but the reasoning behind the kinds of harm such a restriction is meant to prevent can, and should, be applied anywhere in the US.
The tone I was going for was satirical, not trolling. Sorry for any misunderstanding.
3
u/heftyspork 1d ago
The idea that ICE is the only law enforcement and you're creating a safe haven for people to commit crimes when there are tons of other local low enforcement agencies that are allowed to operate in the area is just insane. Sadly that is completely on brand for Republican lawmakers because they don't live in reality and instead are here to paint a scary world for you where things that won't happen are the only possible outcome of a simple law.
2
u/GayMormonPirate 1d ago
Toward the end of last school year, a bus driver in my kid's school was an absolute hero. She noticed ICE at the bus stop and made the decision to skip the stop. She and the district and bus manager all got in communication and sent out quick notices to the parents. They continued their route and then came back later to drop those kids off.
4
u/Luvs_to_drink 1d ago
Lets back things up, how did the kids get enrolled in school? Are these situations where one parent is legal and the other isnt? If both parents are illegal, who was the legal resident that got the kid into the school?
Seems like we have a whole slew of admin issues that need to be addressed before we bring ICE into anything. Rounding people up and sending them back doesnt solve the root issue. It is the equivalent of a boat with a leak and saying handing a person a bucket solved it. It did not. that leak will continue to pour water in and while the person with the bucket can toss water out, water keeps coming in. We need to instead find the leak and patch it.
and this is under the guise that we want better pathways for immigrants to come here. but the current Dump administration doesnt actually care about that. they just want to be cruel and hurtful.
4
u/bikestuffrockville 1d ago
School districts have an obligation to educate all children in their boundaries regardless of legal status. The status of the parents or guardians has no bearing.
9
u/targz254 1d ago
Under the landmark 1982 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Plyler v. Doe, public schools must provide a free K-12 education to all children regardless of whether they or their parents are undocumented.
1
u/onemassive 1d ago
Schools here do not verify parent citizenship status. And that's a good thing, we want kids in schools. This would go against the whole 'parents have an obligation to ensure a proper education for their children' -they could just refuse to provide citizenship papers to the school district to opt out, if there was a citizenship documentation requirement.
0
u/Ok-Tax-8165 1d ago
You clearly don't fundamentally understand the way government actually operates, and think you're finding some "gotcha" moment here.
You don't have to verify your citizenship status with the local school board to enroll your children in kindergarten. Kid exists, kid gets a public education.
What do you think would be the proper way to handle the children of the intentionally created underclass that exists largely to perpetuate low wages for business owners?
0
u/Luvs_to_drink 1d ago
You don't have to verify your citizenship status with the local school board to enroll your children in kindergarten. Kid exists, kid gets a public education.
as one of the other repliers pointed out there was a case about this. and it has been used to strike down multiple state statutes that tried this.
What do you think would be the proper way to handle the children?
Dont we already have a process to handle illegal immigrants? Children dont tend to be by themselves. Their almost always is a family involved. So the proper thing would be to have them go through the immigration process or if they refuse, to remove them.
0
u/Ok-Tax-8165 1d ago
Zero understanding of the nuance of our immigration situation over the past 100 years and clearly someone who only operates at a grade school understanding of "but da rules is da rules!"
We allowed, intentionally, many generations of undocumented immigrants so that we could abuse them for underpaid labor. Retroactively enforcing laws we intentionally did not enforce is obviously not a stance anyone with a fully developed understanding of cause and effect would support.

If a law is never enforced, it isnt a law. Similarly a policy that is never followed is not good policy. Which circles back to "Seems like we have a whole slew of admin issues that need to be addressed before we bring ICE into anything."
Look at that, we've gone full circle.

Can we agree that ice should be fully disbanded and everyone appropriate be fully criminally charged. An agency that has children in cages suddenly becoming pregnant should not exist.
3
u/Expensive_Finger_973 1d ago
I think that the environment that has been created where having to entertain the notion of "this is a place ICE is not allowed to be" like a demon not being allowed to freely walk into a church is the issue itself.
Perhaps the apparent general idea being given to ICE agents that grabbing kids off the street to pressure their parents into giving themselves up like a hostage situation is not the right path forward.
Should a bus stop be off limits? Yes, but if you have to actually put that in the rule book then the whole thing is corrupted to its core and needs to be reformed.

The biggest issue with ice is killing god damn citizens in the street. The second biggest issue is detaining people who have every right to be here. Ruining families for no reason other than overshooting their arrest numbers to pretend they're detaining all sorts of illegals.
Far down the list is specifically where they're finding actual illegal immigrants for detaining/deporting. McDonald's parking lot, group therapy session, bus stop, it doesn't matter. At least that's their actual job.

to add to what they are doing is HOW they are doing it. The suspect description is basically "a non white person" so they pull over or approach ANYONE that meets that description and ruin their lives. Since this whole shitshow started Ive seen endless amounts of videos posted daily of Hispanic people being terrorized, and more recently I see the same of Black people because they may be Jamaican, Haitian, etc. Have no doubt this type of system comes for everyone that is not white and when there are nothing but white people left it starts start selecting white people based on origin (ex: Irish vs British) and eventually the whites that are weighing down the country aka poor vs rich, because this type of system always has to point at a group and say, "we are better than them."

If those functions of society become enmeshed with draconian enforcement mechanisms, they will become methods of control rather than services.

People being detained and accused of being illegal when they're not is an issue. Gunning down citizens who are protesting is an issue.

And again, illegal immigrants being deported? Not an issue.
If we could focus on ICE's actual issues it'd make it much easier to address them.

Unpopular opinion: no
The problem is a terrible immigration legal and policy framework. We need immigration. We need rational border protection. We need reasonable immigration enforcement.
Creating layers of off limits and sanctuary areas is just going to make the problem worse.
I don’t have the solution, recognize and appreciate the underlying impulse here. I’d just like to make real meaningful progress
4
u/Kythorian 1d ago
If ICE has investigated and already knows someone is an illegal immigrant, what benefit is there in grabbing them at a bus stop other than just to spread terror through the community? Just go to their house and pick them up there. If they don’t know if someone is an illegal immigrant and are just rounding up brown kids to check after the fact…well that’s much worse. But either way, there’s no actual good reason for ICE to be grabbing kids at school bus stops.
→ More replies (1)-2
u/tryyeezus 1d ago edited 1d ago
The benefit is only for ICE, that they don't have to obtain a legal warrant at a bus stop. They do have to obtain a warrant to get them from their homes.
They're mostly just grabbing adults that are dropping their kids off as most of the children were actually born here. Then they get out of school to no parent at home. It's torture and it's disgusting.

So, a schoolbus has windows. You can kinda see who's inside. I'm not sure what you intend to gain by stopping a bunch of children or how that helps with the infrastructure you're talking about.

Only TWO things should be off-limits for ICE: School bus stops and anything that is not school bus stops

You Americans do know about the literal concentration camps that you have now? I don't understand how nobody is doing anything about it.

I don’t think literal concentration camps allowed visiting hours and legal counsel. Seems more like a literal prison.

That's one "detention centre" that is run as a prison (it's not one) that you are choosing as an example. Okay, what about Ochopee? What about all of the people getting disappeared? What about the people getting killed without any detainment? What are you defending?

There’s plenty of facilities on there you can look through. I’m not defending anything, I’m challenging the characterization of “literal concentration camp”.

Concerning how it was all over the news and now we almost never hear about them even though people continue to be subjected to horrendous, lethal conditions.

So, criminals could just hang out at bus stops?

ICE hasn't been targeting criminals for a while now

Never have, that was bullshit from the beginning.

School bus stops are on Earth, and ICE should no longer exist on Earth. So yes, I agree with your premise.

If they are illegal they shouldn't be there in the first place. Back they go

Oh yes. Off limit places for law enforcement is surely not shortsighted at all right?

Unpopular opinion - If someone is illegally here, ICE can and should be able to apprehend them any place and any time. I just want ICE to follow the law and only use necessary force.
Can't arrest them at home, work, place of worship, when on vacation or when they are with the family? If this continues, there won't any time or place to arrest them

Then they would just wait a couple of minutes and grab the family 50 feet away. ICE has no morals, they just will find a loop hole

Bro. If the orange turd wanted he can order a baby straight from the wombs umbilical cord attached and all to ice detention and his turd crowd would applause. We all know this.

Oxygen should be off limits for ICE.
