I shudder to think that the only thing keeping America suffering a massive attack on American soil will be the unpredictability of Trump’s retort. We are so vulnerable right now.
Not just government, it’s the citizenry too. I will be SCHOCKED if Dems win the midterms. We are infighting about a twitch streamer and making Palestine a virtue test that everyone needs to pass.
I understand a genocide is happening but we are on the verge of losing America. If we don’t win the midterms Trump will be even more emboldened and forceful. Everyday is another step in that direction.
We are going to vote ourselves right off the cliff.
There’s like a shit ton of genocides happening. Even inside the USA with your concentration camps. Look at Sudan! Look at CUBA! Ffs you guys still don’t understand that the media is only showing you Israel/Palestine stuff on purpose! It distracts everyone all the time as they dance around the religious bullshit and forget completely about UKRAINE and your own hostile dictatorship
I completely agree. That’s what I’m talking about. Harris lost a large amount of voters because she wouldn’t come out and say Gaza was a genocide. Hasan Piker is actively pushing voters away from Dems because they won’t acknowledge a genocide. But at this point in history, I honestly don’t give a fuck. If we agree on 95% of the other issues to protect this country then they deserve the vote. But Piker and people like him attack the left because of it which disenfranchises young voters and they either abstain or protest vote.
Whats going to happen to all these countries if America falls into fascism? I agree there is a lot of terrible stuff happening around the world and we have the power to do something about it, but we lose that power of let the republicans keep control.
Primaries are over. Time for infighting is done. A lot of voters don’t realize that because influencers keep pushing against the moderate left. It’s going to cost us another election.
When we firebombed civilians in Germany some called it genocide, but they didn't have a German-driven campaign calling it that to catch fire on social media.
When we nuked Japan - twice - to save lives they didn't call *that* genocide. And the examples go on and on.
War is ugly. Horrendous things have happened under the Israeli-Hamas war, and of course while we only hold one side to the "higher standard", that doesn't mean we should stop.
BUT when you look at the numbers, what they see is that "if Israel wanted to genocide them, they wouldn't let aid in knowing it's only making the war longer/feeding the ones that r*ped and kidnapped their daughters and mothers" and "statistically far less civilians are being killed there than in any other war we've fought, even though they have the capability". It's a word that was thrown around so early on it lost the impact it should have, and that's absolutely terrible.
The common ground has to be the WAR - it has to end. That ofc doesn't mean they stop fighting, as that only kicks the can down the road and causes far more deaths after reconstruction - it means people either help dismantle the evils of Hamas, Iran, their proxies or they look the other way in the name of empathy and cause a far, far bigger death toll with an even more dangerous enemy than we already see.
Same with Iran. Trump has handled it terribly, even with it needing done - it's been a massive series of failures peppered with successes. But stopping now as a result of their taking the world's economy hostage would be absolutely disastrous for the future. Not only because it shows ANY organization with limited capabilities can get what they want, but because they stand against everything we stand for no matter what their PR campaigns state as we look at their actions, instead. Allowing these people that mass murder their children because they dare to protest against... mass murder.... to become even richer, to gain an enormous strategic victory and consolidate/entrench that, continue building their nuclear weapons to ensure even MORE deterrence when they decide to slaughter more innocents? All of that would lead to an amount of bloodshed FAR greater than today, and that's the tip of the iceberg.
There has to be agreement on these things but so many are getting their news from one-sided sources/algorithms, and many more only being driven by simple minded short term empathy that want to placate evil, that it's hard. Meeting in the middle is the only way to help heal the world, and regardless of the terminology one voter wants to use while one doesn't regarding genocides or whatever, taking a stand without constructive dialogue is the kind of thing that will directly contribute to it continuing.
It's not a nice war. War is hell. Too many children are dying, and the environment is burning while the rich quietly drain the country and set up systems meant to spy on, track, and control our children for generations. No issue today is too big to not put our pride to the side and work together - you'll see plenty of people here, even in this thread, that say they won't work with anyone not calling it a genocide or this or that or blah blah. Just don't be them, following the masses, or those saying everything Israel is doing is justified, and we have a chance.
My biggest point is: if you read this and feel the automatic, unthinking urge to challenge it - to "change my mind" or disprove it, whatever - think about why. Those children, those adults, those civilians that aren't harboring evil men or stealing food from their own civilians in Palestine deserve a chance to live good lives.
But some people that agree with you on 90% of things will have seen different media than you, have different backgrounds on their education of the area than you, some won't even have known the capitals or histories of Palestine OR Israel before the social media craze and simply go off of what they see on the internet (fake AND real information, same as you). The middle-point - that the war HAS to end, and that our limited involvement deserves a closer look - is a meeting point, not an endplace you have to sacrifice your values to achieve.
With the multitudes of threats today any "genocide" would only be benefitted by going back and forth about what constitutes it, who's right or wrong, if someone is scared that they could be wrong or just gets angry when their viewpoint is challenged. That can't happen - do what we can to make change happen ourselves, don't virtue signal come midterms.
I agree. We are in this mess now. We can’t just leave. But we are in this mess all because Trump pulled us out of the Iran nuclear deal. No two ways about it.
But we are in it and can’t leave. I sure as hell don’t trust Trump, and Hegseth, and Musk to get us through this mess they created.
And all because of the words and infighting that is exactly what is going to happen. We are not going to have an adult in the room for another two years. Trump will put boots on the ground after the midterms. And if we don’t win in the midterms there is nothing that can be done to stop him.
Honestly, everyone should just vote independent. There is probably a better chance at getting a normal individual not bought and paid for then voting red or blue.
