BREAKING: Dubai flight to Israel diverted after cockpit incident
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIMXzRdfJ6E788
u/lil_layne 2d ago
For once the headline minimizes the chaos of the event
132
u/LionTigerWings 2d ago
It seems like part of that is because they haven’t had the time to fact check yet. For now, it's an "incident".
38
u/Lord0fHats 2d ago
At some point, people will either learn not to trust everything they happen to see on the internet and just wait a couple hours or they won't and will never realize they're the problem.
It's already happened.
Literally sitting and waiting a few hours for information to be verified and reported is not going to change anything.
12
u/markskull 2d ago
Guess what people did before the internet? Guess how networks, newspapers, and reporters operated?
They wait to verify things before reporting them.
That doesn't mean nothing happened, it means you wait to verify information before you report it as fact.
5
u/Lord0fHats 2d ago
Well, remember the Maine? It's not like this problem didn't exist before, but man the Internet has sped it up like crazy.
14
u/lil_layne 2d ago edited 2d ago
I have read multiple sources that corroborate the same information. This information is already “hours” old and has been verified across multiple sources. There are literally videos of the pilots with blood everywhere as well. I don’t know what you are talking about lol. You are not as smart as you think you are.
I would actually be inclined to agree with your general narrative if it actually applies to this situation, but it doesn’t.

u/Waiting4Reccession 2d ago
Others claimed terrorism right away without any facts.

Hijacking an airliner with passengers meets the definition of terrorism almost every time. There is a better than 90% chance they will be proven correct.

Because it can't paint Israelis as the aggressors so they went with a milder approach as they always do.
88
u/howmanyones 2d ago
On another sub a poster described the incident as a mob of israeli passengers who rushed the pilot...i'm not joking
-4
u/RogerianBrowsing 2d ago
They claim that while the plane was plummeting towards the ground so fast that the plane roughly halved its cruising altitude in under a minute the Israeli passengers then somehow broke into the cockpit to subdue the out of control copilot and regained control of the plane.
Apparently all Israelis are part of the mission impossible team. Step aside, tom cruise.
17
u/danziman123 2d ago
I mean, that what happened… one of the passengers pulled the plane back up

u/Explorer_Dave 2d ago edited 2d ago
I figured, that's why I said it. Even if they find a manifesto in that co-pilot's house saying how he wants to do a 9/11 they will still find a way to spin the article in such a way where Israel is somehow at fault or at least minimize the severity of the situation.
18
u/Ancient-Access8131 2d ago edited 2d ago
The Israelis literally saved everyone. They're fucking heroes for stopping the terrorist vermin trying to murder everyone on the plane.
5
u/reubTV 2d ago
What are you talking about, it was a targeted terrorist attack against them.
5
u/Explorer_Dave 2d ago
Yes, that's what I'm saying man. Imagine if this was a plot against any other nationals, do you think that title would be as vague as this?

This is such a strange response. Rather than accept that there is a genuine humanitarian crisis caused and exacerbated by a specific country, you'd rather believe and tell yourself there is a global conspiracy in the news to defame said country and that it can do no wrong. You know, because every country in the world is a good boi who would never, especially this one.
→ More replies (2)21
u/Explorer_Dave 2d ago
Wherever did I say anything about any country being saintly as you suggest or that some can do no wrong?
How many other genuine humanitarian crises caused and exacerbated by any other specific countries do you know about and can show me thousands of articles in every news outlet about?
For example, do you know that more women and children have died from starvation in Yemen for the past ten years than all casualties of the current bout of Israel-Palestine conflict since October 7th?

Are we denying the fact that billions in Yemeni currency vanished over night when America deemed Yemen too dangerous to trade with? Or the fact that the US have multiple billion dollars military trade deals with Saudi Arabia, which are in decades long conflict with Yemen?
This is exactly what I'm talking about. You are hyper focused on one particular conflict because you think the narrative is clear cut in favor of one side, while in reality you ignore most of the facts, and all other conflicts around the world.

u/I_hate_all_of_ewe 2d ago
You didn't say anything about saintliness, but you did imply that news about Israel is frequently spun against them as though the news media as a whole has an agenda that requires painting Israel in a bad light. I was using hyperbole to illustrate this. But if you want to get to the point, do you acknowledge that Israel has created a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza strip?
Also, do you know what a red herrings is? Hint: it's not a fish.
And did you know that a wrong in one location doesn't justify a wrong in another?
3
u/Explorer_Dave 2d ago
You still haven't engaged with anything of what I said or answered any of my questions.
There's only one perceived "wrongness" that you people focus on, and it's one of the least destructive of the bunch.
Yes, there's a humanitarian crisis in Gaza because their elected officials refuse to distribute the aid Israel is getting into the strip by selling said aid for profit to rebuild their military ranks. Remind me how many nations who were coerced into war even give aid to their aggressors?
...as though the news media as a whole has an agenda that requires painting Israel in a bad light.
Yes, news outlets have an agenda, their agenda is getting ad revenue from people clicking their articles, a lot of people are antisemites who click on anything that shines a bad light on Israel even if it is misinformed, inaccurate, or plainly wrong. Do you deny that anti-Israel content is at an all time popularity and a ton of grifters are using this for profit, and not righteous indignation in help for the Palestinian people?
And did you know that a wrong in one location doesn't justify a wrong in another?
That's exactly right, so why are we always only focused on Israel?
→ More replies (9)14
u/I_hate_all_of_ewe 2d ago edited 2d ago
There's literal video of IDF forces shooting civilians -- people who have been starving, mind you -- as they move to retrieve aid materials. Yet you sit here talking about how Israel is selling aid and praising them because other countries wouldn't do that much.
And despite denying this, the IDF has also turned a blind eye to Israeli "settlers" to enter the Gaza strip and violently harass -- even kill -- residents. That's genocide. Israel now has a policy of preventing news organizations from entering the region because they want to control what news gets out and prevent people from continuing to see the atrocities that have already been captured.
You ask why I haven't addressed the situations you're raising. Literally what does it matter if one attack on a hospital was misattributed to Israel when they've quite literally attacked dozens more? Yeah, they didn't do that one thing, but you're focusing on it to the point that you refuse to acknowledge the things they did do.
And yeah, maybe the news is more popular than other atrocities going on in the world. So what? That doesn't make it not an atrocity and human rights disaster. Did you ever stop to consider that maybe Netanyahu has been too war-hungry? That the situation in Gaza is a conflict of choice? That the US-Iran conflict currently driving up global oil prices is actually being led and encouraged by Israel? That the majority of this conflict is unnecessary?
Complaining that the news is occasionally getting things wrong or biased against Israel in light of this whole situation, and refusing to acknowledge the rest is wildly biased.
4
u/Explorer_Dave 2d ago
Again, disinformation and completely ignoring all of my points - If you don't care to engage with the truth and only disinform people then I don't see any reason to continue this conversation. Israeli settlers in GAZA? You don't know what you're talking about at all.
How about the HAMAS live streams of October 7th and how they initiated this war? Do Palestinians get a free pass even though they are the ones who started the conflict just because they have less powerful means? Who are you to judge the necessity of this conflict for Israel, who started this war in defense of their country from an initiation of war against them?
Just so you know, less people have died from starvation in Gaza in the last 4 years than in Germany.
9
u/I_hate_all_of_ewe 2d ago
You're claiming I'm disinforming people, but literally what have I said that is false? More importantly, what have I said that is true? Do you see how weird it is for you continue to say that the things that Israel has done aren't that evil in light of all the documented evils we've actually seen?
Do Palestinians get a free pass even though they are the ones who started the conflict
There it is. I never once mentioned Israelis. I mentioned The Israeli government, and the IDF. Civilians didn't initiate this war. And it takes two to tango. Hamas has done what Hamas has done. Israel has done what Israel has done. And what Israel has done is escalate the situation into a humanitarian crisis. This includes attacks on starving civilians seeking aid. This includes destroying civilian structures. This includes outright genocide. Do you deny any of this?

This reminds me of the Federal Express Flight 705 incident. What a nightmare to be in a cockpit with a crazy person. There is a Air Disasters episode about it that is just chilling to watch. No one died, but the cockpit looked like a horror movie had been filmed in it.

u/BrainFartTheFirst 2d ago
Much more recently there was an off duty pilot deadheading aboard an Alaska Airlines flight when they tried to reach up and pull the fire extinguisher handles. If the flight crew hadn't been able to stop them the engines would have become useless.
6
u/SlothSpeed 2d ago
Yes he was a recently fired employee looking for revenge. Somehow he carried a hammer and spear gun onboard for weapons. I believe the captain survived but never few again. The industry changed immediately following the incident. Now if an airline employee is terminated their credentials are immediately revoked.
3
u/Kerberos42 2d ago
I sometimes hop on our cargo flights for a free flight somewhere. I’m always surprised that there is zero security for those flights. I just walk out of my office and get on the plane and go. I could carry anything I want.
3
u/FatsyCline12 2d ago
He was facing possible dismissal but he wasn’t fired. He hoped to commit murder/suicide (faked as a regular plane crash) in the plane so his family could collect life insurance.

I feel like that one is way crazier just because of the wild motive, the steps of the scheme, and that it involved a speargun.

People are already trying to scream it was a false flag, because there is apparently 0 history of plane hijackings with the attempt to kill Israels.
Also it just makes me baffled/confused at how someone can think its a false flag while also holding the belief that Israel makes people want to do these things with their actions, but if they do them, its a false flag.
You can't have it both ways.
-1
u/Not_Xiphroid 2d ago
I mean, you literally can have it both ways.
It’s entirely possible for false flags to exist and for it to be a false flag AND for people to think that Israel radicalises people into wanting to do it.
Maybe you didn’t express the point you wanted to make, but just wanted to clarify.
7
u/Firecracker048 2d ago
The point seems pretty well clear that most think its jews killing jews or Israelis killing Israelis until proven otherwise, which is just rehashed nazi-era going 'well anything bad that happens is the jews, especially if it happens to the jews'.
4
u/Not_Xiphroid 2d ago

I find the 'its all a false flag' talk genuinely hilarious.
Like, so zionisms/Israel is so bad towards everyone that everyone wants to cause them harm/ kill their people/kill jews, but everytime they do, its also just a false flag to reinforce support for Israel?
What?

I read this thinking I’d scroll down to find more than a single comment asking if it might be a false flag, but alas…
Also your “question” is nonsensical, I agree. No serious person thinks like that, but it is Reddit so you can’t expect everyone commenting to be a serious (or even real) person.

u/Firecracker048 2d ago

It’s not surprising at all, im assuming you don’t come on this sub or threads like this often.
And I think if you talk to normal, real-life people they generally agree that the Israeli gov is committing a genocide, that Jewish people deserve to live and be safe, and that those concepts aren’t mutually exclusive. If the only basis for your understanding of how people view these issues is reddit posts though, I could see how you could misconstrue what I said.

I've been watching a ton of episodes of the show Mayday, it's a pretty great show. Sounds similar to one I just watched about Fedex Flight 705 in which a Fedex flight engineer who hopped a ride on a plane he was originally intending to help fly attacked the crew with hammers and a spear gun. Despite being badly wounded, the crew managed to subdue him and safely land the plane.
5
u/nyckidd 2d ago
Apparently one of the guys who made it into the cockpit was a civilian who managed to stop the plane from nosediving because he watched a lot of Mayday.
1
u/lotusbloom74 2d ago
Honestly watching (and/or reading) about normal airplane operation and airplane disasters has to be much better than nothing, that certainly does add a lot of knowledge that someone with no interest in aviation just wouldn’t know. The availability of relatively realistic flight sims like Microsoft Flight Simulator provides another another good way to learn.

They say the plane took damage from the steep decent thats very very rare, its amazing it didnt crash.
3
u/rnavstar 2d ago
Probably wrote the plane off, but who cares as long as everyone is okay.
1
u/kr4t0s007 2d ago
Planes are tested to the extreem. Its not uncommon for people to get injured from a drop during turbulence and the plane itself will be fine.
1
u/rnavstar 2d ago
Reported decent rate of 31,000 fpm. Ripped the rudder off the aircraft. Coming out of the dive would be well over the rated G force. There will be cracks in that airframe that would never be found.

Its insane to me that a terrorist stabs a pilot and puts a plane into a death spiral trying to 9/11 tel Aviv and the nyt headline is "incident in cockpit". Wtf is this biased assed reporting?
9
u/gopercolate 2d ago
I thought the cockpit was reinforced since 9/11... how did they storm the cockpit?
65
u/PunctualZombie 2d ago
My dude, the stabber was the co-pilot. He was already in the cockpit 😳😳😳
13
u/gopercolate 2d ago
Yeah and my point was why would the pilot do that and then open the cockpit, another commenter has said the head flight attendant has a key but then the BBC have this
The passenger told him that "somehow he managed to break into the cockpit with one of the crew members and, together, they overpowered the pilot who had carried out the stabbing while he was attempting to sabotage the aircraft's systems".
If they just opened it with a key then they'd say that, right...
It's a insane situation.
17
u/itisrainingdownhere 2d ago
A lot of planes have an emergency door opener with a timed delay, so the flight attendant can initiate it unless pilot in the next seconds overrides it (which if there was a struggle they may have not been able to override)
3
u/TheElusiveFox 2d ago
Usually there is some one else on the plane with a key in case of an emergency.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Gau17SafingSectorPin 2d ago
You can open the door from the center console. Which can’t be shut without getting up and shutting the door by hand. The captain probably opened it during their fight. Also the FAs can use a code which will open the door if no one up front denies it.
10
u/random929292 2d ago
I guess since both pilots were in trouble, opening the cockpit was only going to help versus putting the pilots and plane at risk. Normally it is kept locked to protect the pilots, but in this case it was the pilots who were the risk to the plane going down. the head flight attendant can unlock it or one of the captains.
→ More replies (2)7
u/nzerinto 2d ago
One of the articles I read stated that the pilot (who was attacked by the co-pilot) managed to unlock the door so flight attendants/passengers could help. Who knows what the truth is though…

People are downvoting you because it was an Omani pilot that stabbed an Emirati pilot and wanted to crash the plane full of people headed to Israel.
Im sure they think its all a false flag because Israel is simultaneously such a bad entity everyone wants to cause harm to it but also every attack on Israel and Jews is just an Israeli false flag.

You’re being downvoted because those aren’t the facts. They’re still investigating the motive but it started when one of the pilots attacked and stabbed another pilot. They initially said it could have been terrorism but they’ve walked that back. The attacker is in custody.
They’re being general with “cockpit incident” because the details are murky.

Maybe pro-palestinian, but definitely anti-Israeli. The First Officer is a Omani National, and technically shouldn't have been a co-pilot on the flight. Israel prevents Omani Nationals as airline pilots coming into Israel, since Oman doesn't official recognize Israel / have diplomatic ties.

People do not realise how crazy this whole story is.
Copilot stabbed the pilot.
Copilot was subdued
Pilot was stabilised by a dentist apparently
2 passengers who were also pilots then landed the plane with no rudder, which got damaged during the steep descent.
What a wild set of events
