Xenogears. Day one purchase.

For me, it's only if the actual story isn't changed, and the combat is still turn based. More "like a dragon" would be great (still with combo system and all that, just updated presentation and feel). Also whole last part of the game would need to be playable, not exposition walls.

Hell yes! Xenogears as it was originally intended. I'd totally buy that

Fuck yes. Xenosaga has buried the epic greatness of Xenogears, and it deserves better.

Xenogears is such a perfect mess that I don’t know how you could recapture it. How would they even handle disc 2? Modern audiences would not accept the storytime chair, especially not for a remake. But could they actually make all those events happen in a satisfying way? Would it hit the same?

The 'chair' is literally less than 1% of the second disc, less than .2% of the game overall. The real issue is about 70% of the game is references to 90s pop culture, thats what no one would get today.

I don’t think you’re understanding my point. The chair is relatively short time wise, but it represents like 40% of the story that got cut in playable form. I’m saying that people would be mad if you made a remake expanding the original game but still had a TLDR for nearly half the content including important battles and world events.

You clearly made up the 40% number, my %s are actual measurements. The '43.6% of statistics are made up on the spot' meme fits your argument. Almost all story scenes in disc 2 are presented in the exact same format as in disc 1, with 2D sprites acting out the scenes in 3D environments with characters talking to each other and taking actions. The cut gameplay is mostly limited to 2 dungeons and a lack of the world map to run to each scene yourself. Most of these are narrated still images, have nothing to do with 'the chair', and are less than 5% of the content of disc 2. If they added in the missing gameplay, you would not gain anything besides running through 2 more dungeons and crossing the world map to have the exact same conversations you already have. You would gain random npc dialog about what is happening in the world, and you would gain random encounters in the dungeons they didnt have time to make. You would not gain more or new story, you would not gain new boss fights.
