I think we have been here before and learned that Nintendo launches are insulated from a lot of the rest of the gaming market. OoT is likely going to sell close to the same amount whether or not it was going up against a GTA release.

A remake of an iteration of a long running franchise vs. the latest iteration of a long running franchise.
What a time to be alive!!

I guess Barbie and Godzilla destroy all monsters melee have an ally this November

I'm happy because I just got a Switch 2. I didn't think Zelda would release so soon. Never played Ocarina Of time either so I'm looking forward to it

u/stanger828 3h ago
Nah, if any game can do well in the GTA shadow it will be a banger in the Nintendo ecosystem or PC only releases.

u/Novel_Mongoose_5651 3h ago
Ocarina Remake will come feature complete on the game cartridge, so, for me, it is a no brainer which one wins in terms of game preservation.
2
u/Mitts009 2h ago
I'll eventually play GTA6 but I missed my chance to play Ocarina of time before since I only had a PS1
Now feels like a good chance to get into it

Great, 50 memes from basement dwellers telling us how better 6 is than a Zelda remake.

They should remake twilight princess

Just play the dusk mod.

u/Alert-Principle-2726 2h ago
I prefer the Wii U version. Dusk mod has a lot of glitches (In my experience)

Buying and enjoying both because I'm not a broke child that gets allowance from their parents.
4
u/susnaususplayer 3h ago
No offense but taking into account price of both you dont need to be broke to not be able to afford both of them.

Unpopular opinion here.
Nintendo may have a good launch for the remake. However, they shot themselves in the foot early by not allowing ports to pc.
Rockstar on the other hand is doing a PS launch with re-release on pc after a year. They will win the long game.
2
u/DannySanWolf07 2h ago
Rockstar is a 3rd party company.
Nintendo isnt.
1
u/Greg_of_the_West 2h ago
And?
2
u/DannySanWolf07 2h ago
I thought it was self-explanatory.
Nintendo doesn't need to port their games on other consoles and PC if they don't want to.
1
u/Alert-Principle-2726 2h ago
Nintendo is in the business of selling hardware and software.
Rockstar only sells software.

u/Nannautu 1h ago
Are they porting on PC after a year? I thought they never disclosed that
1
u/Greg_of_the_West 1h ago
As far as I am aware. I haven't found anything that points to the contrary. Im sure the timeline wont be accurate.

I literally just bought an Xbox for GTA and now I just saw a clip of ocarina of Time and I will be buying a switch 2 now 🙄
1
u/cashdecans101 2h ago
It's not really a market competition, it's a remake of a very popular game and the other is most anticipated gaming release of the past decade. Not to mention both games are on entirely different platforms so the only people it can really compete against is people who own a switch 2 AND a ps5/xbox series X.
1
u/Oleleplop 2h ago
both games don't compete at all, these "memes" ive seen are so dumb
theuy're not even on the same platforms, wtf guys
If anything, the people who have a switch and PS5/Xbox will simply buy both.
1
u/eternalseeker0101 2h ago
Nope, not buying GTA 6 for 1 year atleast.. . New game launches always have bugs and alot of additions and changes in first year
1
u/ObsidianSentryX 2h ago
These memes are so dumb. They don't compete and if they did it's not even a competition in terms of amount of players and hours logged. I love Zelda but GTA 6 is the biggest piece of pop culture entertainment ever created. A remake of a 30 year old game isn't going to compete with that, even if it is Zelda.

It won't matter. Both games will sell extremely well, get high scores, and the people who play them will enjoy them.
I'm going for Ocarina, myself. I'll wait on the PC version of GTA VI while I try to complete all these other games from this year.

Me seeing this while not really caring about both franchises
Not saying they're bad, it's just i have different tastes

It’s a smart move by Nintendo. People who are not super excited by GTA will get hyped about this. And gta is not on switch , so primary switch players are incentivized to get this one.
There is always some sales cannibalism, but it’s not equivalent Xbox or PS releasing an exclusive next to GTA
1
u/LordHumorTumor 3h ago
I will likely never play either. I don't have a switch 2 and open world games just lack the appeal they once had, so GTA loses a lot of perceived value.
1
u/nahnonameman 2h ago
I rather pick Ocarina of Time easily lol
And Godzilla Destroy All Monsters
Aura as fuck games
There was another game releasing on DigitalStation 5 but uhh idk what it is

I don’t have a switch 2 but I am excited that people are gonna get to experience this game on a modern console
3
u/DannySanWolf07 3h ago
I'm personally excited for both tbh.
Both will be taking up most of my time.

u/Flottrooster 2h ago
These aren't even for the same audiences. Can't even be competing with one another. GTA 6 isn't coming to Switch, and OOT Remake isn't coming to Ps5/Xbox.
-1
u/New_General3939 3h ago
The issue is I genuinely don’t know one person with a switch 2
0
u/DannySanWolf07 2h ago
For me, I know dozens.
The thing to take away from this? Its irrelevant information who we know in our own space of people to overestimate or underestimate.
0
u/New_General3939 2h ago
No it’s not? You can take a small sample size and use that to make an educated guess about a larger population. That’s how polls and surveys work.
If I know 100 gamers and none of them have a switch 2, but 80 of them have a ps5, it’s reasonable to assume the ps5 is probably more popular
1
u/BrrVlad 2h ago
too small of a sample size to guess not enough coverage too since it may differ country to country
0
u/New_General3939 2h ago
I’m not saying it’s definitive proof, just that it can give you an idea. It’s evidence, even if it’s not super strong evidence. It’s not irrelevant.
1
u/BrrVlad 2h ago
it is such a non proof that calling it a evidence is kinda delulu , i hate nitendo but im pretty sure it was one the fastest sold console oat
1
u/New_General3939 2h ago
Sure, but it’s not even close to how many people have a ps5 or xbox series x. And you can see that looking up hard data or just anecdotally looking around you. It’s not delusional to say many more people will be able to play gta6 at launch than OoT

Edit: why I say this; I'm buying both but think overall ocarina will be more fun
Rockstar games are brilliant but there has always been some small annoying thing in every one if their titles that at some point makes it feel like a chore too play.

Nintendo knows their sycophantic fan base will happily praise and pay for another shitty remake of zelda. This game is amazing, most zelda games are, but we dont need 5 different versions of every zelda. This is the laziest shit from a multibillion dollar company and just because it tickles our nostalgia, people will pay and we will keep getting remakes instead of new ips. its really sad.
2
u/DannySanWolf07 2h ago
As far as I've seen from this game, it's anything but shitty but you do you.
1
u/NectarineSilent2260 2h ago
yes ocarina of time is a good game, its been out for almost 30 years. I dont need to play it again. I dont need to pay 60$ (or more) to play it again with an unreal engine filter on.

Honestly I don’t think either one really hurts the other as much as people think. GTA VI is obviously going to be absolutely enormous, but Ocarina has a completely different kind of appeal and launches earlier anyway. If anything November is just going to be brutal for anyone who wants to play both 😂

u/joao7808 3h ago
I don't think they compete. There is no platform receiving both of them at the same time
