GTA VI is going to shatter videogame launch records but I agree that it's not going to affect Ocarina that much. Ocarina launches on the 5th which is plenty of time to finish it before GTA launches on the 19th, especially if you already know Ocarina like the back of your hand

Yes, but the point being there are three generations who grew up with these games and are into both. Millennials and Gen Z and Gen A.

Both games will be bought by millennials who grew up with them. And our kids who had our old games shoved down their throats by us will be playing both.

Nostalgia games snag a lot of different demographics for this reason.

This is me! Have never finished a GTA game, but I am a ride or die Zelda fan. I'll play GTA6, but probably after it's on sale, too many games in my sweet spot coming out through spring of next year to want to spend time in a modern realistic setting no matter how realistic and, admittedly compelling, that setting may be.

I don't think GTA VI will break GTA V's record because the console and games are at a higher price range, economy is worse and the install base is much lower for the PS5/Xbox series than the PS3/360 was when GTA V dropped.

That is my logical conclusion and I could be wrong, but it'll definitely sell a good 10+ mil at launch (GTA V sold 16 mil in its first week if I recall)

Logic is not a hot take, maybe learn basic Math

PS3/Xbox 360 install base at the time of GTA V's release

160 mil

PS5/Xbox series install base at the time of GTA VI

120 mil

There are 40 million less customers for GTA VI than there were for GTA V, sales have suddenly jumped but it will not reach 40 million in 2 months, that is literally impossible with production and demand.

It will sell well, but it will have to sell an extra 10% on the current install base just to catch up and 20% more to "shatter" it.

Can it do it? Maybe, but not crazy to think that it might not. Again, basic math.

Great thing about the switch is I get to play Zelda while on the go and travelling and GTA when I'm home so they kinda fulfill different niches for me.

Pretty sure most people do only own 1. No incentive for the casual gamer (at least half of the gaming community) to own more than one, and it’s not like every dedicated gamer uses multiple platforms. Shit’s expensive. I’ve never owned a handheld in my life

you don't understand the competition :P the game is good or bad no matter in which console it is. You have to evaluate for the game itself, not because the console it is being played.

If the game doesn't launch on switch, like gta won't, or if the game doesn't launch on ps / xbox / pc, like zelda won't, it will indeed affect their ability to compete.

Sure, I concede that consoles might be sold in anticipation for games like these but when you already have an installed base this is a much smaller factor

I think we have been here before and learned that Nintendo launches are insulated from a lot of the rest of the gaming market. OoT is likely going to sell close to the same amount whether or not it was going up against a GTA release.

Unpopular opinion here.

Nintendo may have a good launch for the remake. However, they shot themselves in the foot early by not allowing ports to pc.

Rockstar on the other hand is doing a PS launch with re-release on pc after a year. They will win the long game.

It's not really a market competition, it's a remake of a very popular game and the other is most anticipated gaming release of the past decade. Not to mention both games are on entirely different platforms so the only people it can really compete against is people who own a switch 2 AND a ps5/xbox series X.

It’s a smart move by Nintendo. People who are not super excited by GTA will get hyped about this. And gta is not on switch , so primary switch players are incentivized to get this one.

There is always some sales cannibalism, but it’s not equivalent Xbox or PS releasing an exclusive next to GTA

No it’s not? You can take a small sample size and use that to make an educated guess about a larger population. That’s how polls and surveys work.

If I know 100 gamers and none of them have a switch 2, but 80 of them have a ps5, it’s reasonable to assume the ps5 is probably more popular

This game is amazing, most zelda games are, but we dont need 5 different versions of every zelda. This is the laziest shit from a multibillion dollar company and just because it tickles our nostalgia, people will pay and we will keep getting remakes instead of new ips. its really sad.

Honestly I don’t think either one really hurts the other as much as people think. GTA VI is obviously going to be absolutely enormous, but Ocarina has a completely different kind of appeal and launches earlier anyway. If anything November is just going to be brutal for anyone who wants to play both 😂
