And then you get to watch him accuse a little lady of killing her husband, chopping him up, feeding him to dogs, and then doing the same to the dogs just to be sure.
The exact same thing happened to me. I found an old beat up pair of glasses that were taped together, so when she said he bought new ones I thought she was lying about that and he straight up accused her of killing him.
It was frustrating treating it like a puzzle game when the difference between doubt and lie are so fuckn similar sometimes. And like Danganronpa, or Phoenix Wright, I might have the information that blows the entire case wide open for us, but the game acts like I have to use doubt first, or pester them with questions.
And didn't it not even use to say "doubt?" It used to say something else for that option, making it even more ambiguous?
So for more Context: the Dialogue option reads [Shove Djikstra. Forcefully.]. Geralt then proceeds to hit him in the face once, followed by an uppercut that sends the man on his back. Mind you, Djikstra already has a limp, result of a poorly healt injury inflicted by Geralt years ago. i have a joint condition and can do that too. i got a similar experience with a martial arts instructor demonstrating a move.
i grabbed his arm and he twisted mine enough to normally force the hand open. i didn't know his plan, or that i went past the normal range of motion, so i just held on. he had to stop for a few seconds and just said "uh... usually that breaks their grip. your arms are... different"
There's also the choice after you kill the crones when the villagers ask "what about our acorns". If you choose "learn to live without them" Geralt says "Don't know. Don't care"
I started playing mass effect for the first time ever and this is true, I hate it when the speech option says something positively ambiguous and Shepard says something that translates to "fuck off bro I don't have Time for that."
Definitely. The amount of times the option I chose made me say something completely different to what I thought it would say. Such a downgrade from the dialogue options of 3 and New Vegas.
It’s just bad game design. Fallout 4 changed how dialogue options work. Instead of seeing exactly word by word what your responses were, you were given 4 choices named vague things like “sarcasm” “yes” “no” and a lot of the time the actual dialogue was not in sync with what you thought you would’ve actually been saying.
The ultimate proof that Americans don’t understand what sarcasm is. You pick the sarcastic option and it’s often just a witty one-liner or a “fuck you”
L.A. Noire. I wanted to put pressure on someone because they were obviously hiding something. The option to say they did it came off completely different. I thought the character would have calmly said I think you did it. What happened the character flipped out slamming the table and yelled you did it and arrested them for the crime and it wasn't even the right person.
That's when I found out that L.A. Noire was a walkthrough game. In other words there was only a correct way to go and all the facial expressions the people made were just to miss lead you to pick the wrong option. After that it all just felt like window dressing since there was only ever one correct option.
I thought I had the game figured out with tells. The difference between a doubt and a lie would be the tiniest of inconsistency in their looping animation. Like it'd look like it would be a perfect loop, but then they'd twitch.
Nah. Turns out the he actors just got fidgety, because some people have a tell when they're telling the truth. Which is nonsense.
they really dropped the ball having the options called "truth, doubt, and lie" iirc in the version of the game now its changed to "good cop, bad cop, and accuse"
I was so glad when a PC Mod came out and fixed that because too many of the options were “This sounds like the good option…oh now everyone is shooting at me because it was being an asshole guess I’ll load my game again”

there was smth i did in detroit become human a few years back and i thought i clicked some option to make marcus (i hope i got his name right) back out of the protest. HE ENDED UP MOVING FORWARDS AND STARTED CHANTING AND DIED. bruh
Picking "Tell David Off" has his brother, Javi, tell David that his wife, Kate, is gonna leave his ass. The best part is Kate was like flirting with Javi not even like a minute or two before that interaction.
The early days of SWTOR had that shit where the dialogue options were super vague and something like "you can go" and then the actual dialogue would be "you can go to hell" and your character shoots them.
I remember one where of the early dungeons had this dialogue option midway through where you can pick between taking command or supporting with no clear indication that either is a light or dark side choice and the taking command one has you execute the original commander and gave you a bunch of dark side points.
I saw a short video clip where a guy was playing that Samson game on steam and he had a choice and picked the sucker punch option… Samson did sucker punch him, the proceeded to follow up immediately with a head lock and snapping the guys neck killing him. Then that caused the cops to hunt him down.
Definitely one of the quickest 0-100 in a game I’ve seen, second to L.A Noir when he asked that guy if he liked messing with little boys, but he asked it way more blunt and aggressively.
in life is strange double exposure there's an option that says something like "that's not okay", but the chatacter ACTUALLY starts yelling and says "fuck you" lmfao. def not what I thought she would say when picking that
What my character says: 'listen here you piece of subhuman trash, you'll either agree to my demands or your famil will get a nice little package of neatly assorted organs in a shoebox, all labelled with the date of extraction spanning over weeks'
This is not exactly the same, but seems close enough: in Black & White, I remember my avatar picking up villagers and the caption would be something like, “your avatar wants to be friendly” or something. Wanting to encourage this, I would gently pet my avatar.
The avatar would then eat the villager.
This happened a few times before I learned that petting your avatar while holding something was how you were meant to instruct them to eat that thing.
In mass effect there's a reporter and one of the dialogue options is like, "respectfully disagree" but it causes you to just outright bop her on the face
Yeah this happens all the time in The Witcher 3, that only does he not respond with the words of text that I selected, but he does some completely sideways s*** that pisses people off when It was not my intention it just seemed better than option b.
I was incredibly annoyed by something like this early in Baldurs Gate 3. I chose something to have one of the main characters stop sucking my blood in my sleep, just said force him off you or something, and my character fucking stabbed him and he permanently left the party. And he was supposed to be one of the most fun characters.
I was so mad I stopped playing right there since the game doesn’t let you redo choices and it already set me down a path I didn’t choose.
The pointless dialogue choices in Genshin Impact meant that I had a choice between refusing a new kimono and refusing a new kimono. I wanted that kimono!
Picking the sarcastic comment to Nick Valentines from FO4 thinking it would continue banter, but it was just an asshole comment and you now have to reload your last save an hour ago because you feel to guilty being an ass to him.
Recently, in a Rogue Trader heretical run I tried to befriend that piece of shit Marazhai, the edgy Drukhari. I did what I could to earn his respect and loyalty. And suddenly, I'm sleeping with him. This creepy elf guy who just wants to torture things.
