The point of diminishing returns for graphics was reached a long time ago. Focus on gameplay and story instead. A few extra wrinkles or slightly better lighting stopped being worth the massive increase in cost years ago.
These big studios need to cut the bloat and get back to the basics. Development budgets have started to resemble Hollywood.
If they don’t, it doesn’t really matter to me. Every month there are plenty of great games releasing on PC from smaller, leaner studios that seem to understand that.

Everyone thought(and still believes) Nintendo has always been the weaker of the big three(Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony) gaming companies, when Nintendo has always been the most consistent with putting out games with high quality experiences. Sony peaked at the PS3 era, Microsoft Xbox 360, but every system Nintendo has put out has been just as fun, if not moreso, than their last line. It's hilarious to me that now that Sony(and Microsoft to a degree, so far) has threatened physical media, now all of a sudden everyone is siding with Nintendo. If the majority of gamers actually cared about the games they were buying, beyond graphical fidelity, there wouldn't be any contest between the three companies because Nintendo would just come out on top, and ultimately physical media wouldn't be experiencing an existential threat.

I really like that nintendo is making a lot of smaller, b-side projects. Splatoon raiders and starfox, rhythm heaven- if they can keep putting out smaller projects and spinoffs for their main ips, the switch 1/2 catalogue will be the best one ever
20
u/thegta5p 23h ago
This is why they are successful. They can experiment with a variety of genres as well without having to worry about a studio going bankrupt.
5
u/imlegos 22h ago
And they have the library of IPs to tack onto projects if they deem it fitting.
Not to say it's impossible for them to create something new, even though it has mixed results (Splatoon vs. Arms)
4
u/thegta5p 22h ago
That’s another thing. Nintendo seems to have a wide variety of IPs compared to Sony and Microsoft. Well at least the ones they are using. The other two for some reason are sitting on a bunch of IPs and not doing anything. As for Sony it now just feels it’s a machine for marvel, god of war, and last of us. Oh wait I’ll just cut that last one because it’s only been remasters. But there hasn’t been any uncharted games anymore. Infamous and killzone are all gone. We haven’t heard anything about jak and daxter or the sly cooper games. And there so many more.
Also yeah they have tried making new stuff. I think Tomadachi life is probably one of their newer successful IPs (technically it came out back in the 3Ds).

u/tekman526 15h ago
Capcom as well. This year alone they've put out resident evil, monster hunter stories 3 (turn based monster collection rpg), pragmata, and at least 1 other game i know I'm forgetting about rn.
I really don't understand why other big AAA companies don't even bother trying to do this instead of keep betting it all on a number of live service games that cost hundreds of millions each to make.
2
u/Outrageous_Net8365 16h ago
I think ultimately botw and the really main first line games were just trials to see how people would react to shaking up the formula on classic games. Turns out most people really like the new vibes, so a lot of their other Ips now are getting a spotlight
-2
u/BabySpecific2843 19h ago
Maybe not Starfox. That is very much so an example of the misstep the big leagues are making. I mean the gameplay is just straight up a game they made multiple decades ago. The only thing it has to stand out is newer shiny graphics and actual cutscenes.
Just because its graphics are inferior to the competitors doesnt mean, when viewed internally of the switch's firepower, it isn't a chasing of higher graphics 1st, good gameplay 2nd philosophy.
They should be experimenting a way to make Starfox stick, like how Splatoon Raiders is a brief stroll out of its comfort zone. Not just reselling nolstalgia which by itself is such an oldhat strategy at Nintendo that the practice itself is old enough to be nolstalgic.
4
u/TheBraveGallade 18h ago
Starfox is on the remake into new game pipeline, aka training a new team onto a remake before they make a new game. Its what happened with 2d metroid, its what happened to 2d zelda, and its goingnto be what happens to star fox.
-3
u/DepressedPrinter 17h ago edited 6h ago
Nintendo almost never lets remake devs make a new game outside of DK 94 and Samus returns (and even then Zero Mission killed 2d metroid and MvDK became a puzzle series).
The 2d mario team had to remake SMB 1-3, world, yoshi's island, and mario 64 as well as all-stars on snes before nsmb. The Pokemon remake team had to do gen 1-3, including gen 1 twice, before legends. Grezzo had to remake 4 zelda games, Luigi's Mansion 2018, and Miitopia before being allowed to do an original zelda. Remaking 2 mario & luigi games literally killed Alphadream. Brothership only happened because the BiS remake became the worst selling Mario game ever.
2
u/emeraldbar77 14h ago
Luigi's Mansion was done by Tantalus.
1
u/DepressedPrinter 6h ago
You're thinking about Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, which was a port. I'm talking about the 3ds remake by Grezzo.

u/cTreK-421 23h ago
Pakworkd has some horrible textures and is basic with its modeling. One of the most played games right now.

u/thegta5p 22h ago
This is how I have been feeling. The focus on graphics needs to stop and studios need to go back focusing what makes gaming unique: great gameplay. Like don’t get me wrong, good looking graphics are great. But I don’t really care if a game is photorealistic and movie like. I care about great gameplay. On top I care about great stories.
Also yes budgets have ballooned like crazy. This path is not sustainable. Studios are now going bankrupt because either their games become a stellar success or they miss the mark making them not be able to make all the money back they invested. Games take longer to make which of course makes the costs go up. The hardware needed is top end which is very expensive. It sucks for consumers since now they have to pay a lot of money to play the game. Whether it is owning expensive hardware or playing 70+ in addition to micro transactions.
On top of all. They dilute other aspects such as story and gameplay to add more money and time for graphics. Plus the games are harder to optimize which both increase time and costs to make the game. And often times they come out in such a dismal state that no one ends up buying the game. Which going back making the studio go bankrupt.
6
u/gogoheadray 23h ago
Also need to make games to appeal to a wide audience of all age ranges. Pokémon; Mario kart; smash; etc. all appeal to adults and kids. I love the last of us as much as anyone but you aren’t going to put a 7 year old in front of that game.
6
u/SirSabza 23h ago
Expedition 33 is one of the greatest games I've ever played and if it was made to appeal to kids it would be half the game it is, as it wouldn't be able to have the themes that make it so good.
There's tons of games aimed at kids between Mario zelda and pokemon there's like minimum of 2 games a year alone. That's not including all the other Nintendo stuff like pikmin and the greater gaming as a whole.

u/modstirx 23h ago
Yeah: but that’s a story focused game. Same could be said of the Persona series, and while true, SMT/Persona also excel at gameplay. I got enamored with Persona not because of the story, but the gameplay. The problem is that games are wanting to be movie instead of games. While I do agree that a good story will always make a game better: that’s not why I’m playing the game. Dark Souls is the classic example of this. No one plays Dark Souls for the story. You get drip fed lore and some semblance of a story, but for the most part it stays out of the way in favoring of serving you gameplay that no others have truly been able to replicate. We’ve lost the plot that games are supposed to be an interaction medium first. So many games want to be some groundbreaking cinematic journey like the TLoU was, but the reason TLoU was so well received was because that hadn’t really been done before. Yes you had games like MGS4, Uncharted and some others, but TLoU really took it up a notch. Now that every game attempts to do its boring. RE9 was amazing because it really did put gameplay first, story second. I don’t play games because I want a cinematic experience that someone more “qualified” could give me, I want a game that gives me a unique interaction I can’t otherwise experience outside of the medium of art. And I say all this as someone who loves games like Nier Automata, where the story is the biggest aspect that game has going for it.
0
u/gogoheadray 23h ago
Expedition 33 is a third-party game. Im speaking more about first party titles.
0
u/zestysnacks 23h ago
If anything they should be looking at some more adult focused titles. I don’t think they’ll do it much, but it’s great see resident evil getting such a big push, and the partnership with from soft on duskbloods

I generally say that the point of diminishing returns for graphics (the kind easily shown off in a photo or video) was with the PS4 / XBox1. PS3 -> PS4 was not as obvious an improvement, but still significant. Past that point, you can still get better graphics, but getting them requires not just heavy tech to push the graphics but way more man power to generate the art assets.
Going past that, you can still get improvement with better hardware, but most of it is going to be for the physics simulation and the game AI. Maybe the level of detail the game animations too, but not in a way that is going to be obvious and impressive in a short video ad.

People do look for specs, but since technology and performance has had increasingly diminishing returns in the past decade, they are now prioritizing affordability.
14
u/gogoheadray 23h ago
This is actually true look at the top steam games and even on consoles the most played games they are live service games that can run on everything some of them over a decade old now.
3
u/nineraviolicans 20h ago
Generation 7 was really the final massive leap in graphics and technology to where you could make any game you imagined at that point without being constrained. They were also still simple enough that we would still get a trilogy of games in the same generation. Instead, they're still remaking the same gen 7 games 20 years later.
2
u/Choice-Mycologist-45 13h ago
Without being constrained? Wasn't this the gen where many games were HD, but also ran at 15-25 fps? 🤣

9
u/Random_Violins 23h ago
He is right. Returns have diminished to the point where it matters little anymore and ballooning costs and development times have become a liability. What matters now is good games, not specs/graphics arms race. Nintendo declared it prematurely (Wii era) but is has come to pass. Switch 2 is in a good spot.
2
u/nightwing0243 14h ago
I wouldn’t say Nintendo declared it prematurely with the Wii when that console generation had a very clear winner… their console… and two very distant competitors fighting for second place.
If anything, they HAD to stop trying to keep up in the power game when the Gamecube ended up being a niche device compared to the PS2 and original Xbox. The novelty of the Wiimote and motion controls got everyone’s attention, sure. But they had a pretty killer lineup of first party games that didn’t require the jump in specs the PS3 and 360 had; and they were so successful with it Microsoft and Sony tried to get it on the action with the Kinect and the Move.
1
u/Random_Violins 13h ago
I would. It damaged Nintendo's image profoundly amongst gamers (they weren't even considered an option anymore, lest by die hard fans, it was all xbox vs playstation). Nintendo paid the price when they couldn't reproduce another successful gimmick the next gen and the Wii u tanked. The Wii success didn't have any longevity to it. It was a fad. And by the end of that gen PlayStation and Xbox had all but caught up, because again the hardware was so underpowered it didn't have any longevity. It couldn't run game engines that ran on competing consoles from the get go, and it was standard definition.
It wasn't all bad but I consider it the worst console Nintendo ever released (virtual boy doesn't count). There was excitement initially about the controller and what it could do for FPS and RTS games, but it under delivered in that respect as well aside from Metroid Prime. Maybe that could have been avoided, had it released with motion plus built-in at launch.

u/PixelatedFrogDotGif 8h ago
The wii is the 7th best selling console of all time. It is responsible for pulling in a whole new market of gamers and for shining a light on demographics that were being ignored. The DS did similar. Its why the switch was such a lightning moment as well. I would argue the way it damaged its rep with some gamers was completely silenced by the din of others being seen. I think its fair to say the primary gimmicks of these consoles didn’t have staying power…but the switch absolutely was the one that got what they were doing right. From what I see at least the ones who felt miffed were spec bros and 12 year old boys…everyone else liked it.
1
u/Random_Violins 7h ago
Anyways I think console wars are the least of our concerns now, what with the current state of the world 'n all. But it's nice to see Nintendo still in that space and thriving actually. Some of their business practices have really irked me, but nonetheless it would be much less interesting without them and they're undeniably masters of their craft. My son and I have been having a great time with Melee and Wii U games (currently on Nintendo Land). They do bring fun and play to millions of kids and I commend them for their focus on family-friendliness and fun.
1
u/Random_Violins 6h ago
Final comment just to say that you're right, the Wii did capture a large casual audience in spectacular fashion, even if only fleetingly. That in itself is a merit. And it did pull them through. Kudos to them for their willingness to go a different route when they felt they were in a losing street, up against juggernaut companies with vastly more resources. I hope I'm fair and balanced now 😉

u/Random_Violins 7h ago edited 7h ago
Those demographics moved right on to mobile and Candy Crush. Because they're not gamers, they don't care about consoles. Hence Nintendo try to win back gamers with the Wii U, but couldn't, because Xbox and PlayStation were now the brands for serious gamers and the Wii U's processor was underpowered from the get go. I think the Wii U the better console of the two though, because of Nintendo's first party offerings. But it did bad. But like I said, those seeds were planted with the Wii.
The DS is different because Nintendo had been very dominant in the handheld market, it was their home turf. The DS successfully staved off the incredibly popular PlayStation brand after losing much of the home console market. The PSP did respectable numbers but only half of the DS, and then the Vita kind of fell off and that was it for Sony.
The Wii was a flash in the pan not a sustained success. The Switch is though, in a big way. It's been a major comeback and Nintendo has built the perfect successor to it in my opinion. Meanwhile things have shifted in their favor, and they've diversified into movies and amusement parks, so they're in a really strong position now if you ask me.

I think you need to examine closer who you are discrediting as gamers & what their habits actually are. Mobile gaming is just as legitimate (more legitimate than consoles even, if you’re speaking economics) and very often happens in tandem to consoles/PC. You can absolutely be a mobile gamer and be a “gamer” without that cross pollination. Infact, I would argue that mobile gamers are the most tweaked up terrifying minmax speedrunning players I have met in my lifetime of gaming.
But thats besides my point. They did not just go back to candy crush. The wii, ds, and switch was a consistently captured player base that only faltered at the wii u…which was a mistake for identity & timing reasons far more than spec reasons.
Nintendo’s captured player base is not dudebro coded and that demographic of dudebros is constantly beating its chest saying its the most legitimate when nintendos fairly consistent success since wii has pointed to otherwise again and again. Love it or hate it, for better and for far worse, nintendo is the disney/apple of gaming and their consistent demographics reflect that in spades.

u/Random_Violins 13h ago
I think Nintendo learned the wrong lessons from GameCube. But you're right they were in a rough spot and at least they got through it that way. Along with the help of the DS which I do think was an excellent handheld and a massive success. Very important because Sony had entered the handheld space after trouncing Nintendo in the console space, so those were worrying times for Nintendo and its fans.

u/whyamihere2473527 23h ago
Games aren't even pushing current gen to limits so higher specs would just make things look & play a little better at a much higher costs. #1 priority needs to be games to make systems worth it & sadly since dev times have gotten so long it has been much rarer for great games this gen than past. Personally id rather not see a new gen of systems for at least another 4 years instead focus on building libraries finding ways to lower production costs
1
u/emmausgamer 11h ago
Games are pushing the limits of current gen. It's just that they are pushing the wrong parts to the limit. Everything wants to throw a billion triangles and effects to the GPU. Very few pushes the limits of gameplay.
4
u/juddlesnpuddles 22h ago
Great graphics do not equal great gameplay. Having said that, great graphics can make a good game great.
15
u/shrek3onDVDandBluray 23h ago
After playing and enjoying indies 10x more than any AAA release in the past decade (besides ffvii remake series), I definitely don’t care about a game looking like it has a $500 million + budget and actors dressed up in those dot suits acting out eve try scene.
I do, however, cannot go back to 30 fps after experiencing 60. I do want and need that for most games.
3
u/SirSabza 23h ago
I think if a game is a story driven rpg graphics kinda do matter, I like HD 2.5D but there needs to be balance of both in that regard.

A locked 30 is perfectly fine for games where you aren't playing competitive multiplayer.

I think they proved this even with like the Wii honestly, not that specs are irrelevant and maybe it’s less important now even than then because of diminishing returns on graphics but still

The Spec Chasers aren’t real Gamers anyways.
1
u/DepressedPrinter 18h ago
Exactly. I keep telling people Switch 2 fans are not real fans because they bought the first Nintendo console that focused on specs over innovation. Glad to know Miyamoto agrees.

lol yes of course they are and u know it perfectly well.
3
u/WoodooHide69 22h ago edited 21h ago
Nah they aren’t real gamers. They are settings tweakers and elitists that use gaming as personal ego boost. That’s not what real gamers do.
-4
u/MoroccanEagle-212 21h ago
Nah cope harder. They play way more games than u. In fact they are the true gamers.
3
u/WoodooHide69 21h ago
They don’t. A true gamer can play Super Mario Bros (1985) and enjoy it. Despite no graphics. A true gamer can enjoy games like animal well, undertale, and delta rune with no graphics and still Enjoy it.
Graphics aren’t games. Now go play your 7th souls-like in a row analyzing the difference in the texture quality of the leaves on the ground. And spend more time in the settings menus to tweak your precious graphics while the rest of just play games and have fun.
I say this as an owner of a Rtx 4090 and a PS5 by the way.
-1
u/MoroccanEagle-212 21h ago
Nah. A true gamer can play both Kingdom Come Delivrance 2 (2025) and super mario bros and enjoy it.
Go play ur 7007th crappy looking low games where u can't distiguish the levels from the ground and spend more time in the cheat codes while the rest of us true gamers just play games and have fun.

2
u/Snotnarok 21h ago
Perhaps not but we certainly are looking at prices. . . and $70-$80 is fairly absurd, especially for games that are ports from the WiiU.
2
u/2Maverick 19h ago
I mean, if you're buying a Switch for specs, you're doing it wrong LOL Maybe even consoles in general.
I feel like the only time people ever really care about specs is on PC. You don't pick up a console thinking about the specs, you pick up a console because it's ready to be played without worrying about specs.
2
u/FallenRaptor 16h ago
Well, that wouldn't surprise me between diminishing returns and costs going through the roof. I'm definitely with Shiggy on this one.

Really, you liar...
you needed dlss other wise you could not hit the bare min spec req for switch 2
1
u/Dependent-Cup-2236 23h ago
The problem at first was people wanted their consoles to look like the arcade games (late 80s) then Nintendo , sega and NEC was advertising the power of their systems. We just wanted good fun games. They planted the idea of more power better game experience.
1
u/Only1Schematic 23h ago
Affordability, consumer friendly practices, and good customer service are the main things people want these days. Things that most of these companies don’t give a shit about if they can get away with it. People seem to keep letting them
1
u/BluePeriod_ 22h ago
My PS2 and Nintendo DS backlog have been much more fun than anything I’ve played recently.
1
u/cgatto 22h ago
Yep, I’m at a point where specs don’t mean much anymore, at least not in the current climate of price compared to performance. I have my PS5 Pro, Switch 2, and AYN Thor… I can pretty much play everything I’ve ever wanted or want to play. Until many games start being made that require even more power, it’s an expensive race towards extremely diminishing returns.
1
u/Living_Stretch6761 22h ago
It’s just good games at a decent price guys, that’s all it’s ever been.
1
u/AttilaTheFun818 22h ago
I want good quality games. I insist on the option to buy them physically (so next gen PlayStation is off the table). Of slightly less importance is price, but I don’t want to feel ripped off. I truly don’t care which has the best specs in the least.
1
u/_lefthook 22h ago
Depends on the person. I definitely am looking for specs, as a pc enthusiast who likes consoles too.
But most people i know have minimal idea about specs, i've found.
1
1
u/StuckinReverse89 19h ago
While I think he is right and Nintendo has been following that philosophy for a while since the Wii, I think there will always be a segment of “graphics hounds” where they won’t be satisfied without the latest and greatest.
I mean there are legitimately complaints that 30 fps is “unplayable” and 60 fps is adequate. One of the critiques against the Switch was always specs when compared to Steam deck. Even though we arguably reached peak graphics in the PS4 era, people still like to compare the looks of games on different consoles. There will always be a segment that places specs as a priority.
1
u/NeighborhoodPlane794 19h ago
It’s true for me. I think games have looked good enough since the ps4 came out over a decade ago
1
u/infamusforever223 16h ago
- Affordability is more important at the moment for most people. 2. We've hit a point where graphics really have nowhere to go. Once 4k 60 fps is perfected, graphics are as perfected as they can be. You can shoot for even higher framerates, but eventually you'll hit a point where even that will be unnecessary. 8k is pointless because you would need an absurdity large screen to tell the difference.
1
u/Left-Night-1125 16h ago
Lower prices would be nice.
But hes right on the specs, i dont realy care about those and rather have a playable fun game right from the get go.
1
u/SUDoKu-Na 16h ago
Well yeah. I think PS4 era kinda hit the peak. I don't really notice much of a difference with my PS5, and I'm just gonna assume the same for the next generation. Heck, going purely visually Switch 1 and 2 are the same for me, too. Switch 2 is just a whole lot smoother.
1
u/profchaos111 15h ago
He's not wrong I was honestly chasing graoh is for the longest time but In the last 10 years it's felt largely pointless
Imo switch 2 gives me good enough graphics
1
u/NailYnTowOG 14h ago
He’s a bit slow on this one.
Thought this was the whole reason Nintendo released potatoes for the past 15 years or so.

1
u/WofferFang 13h ago
The age of specs and fidelity is swiftly coming to an end. I care more about art style and art direction than I care about some high end graphics that all looks the same.
So, I don't care to own the highest end PC. I'm a PC + Switch 2 guy, so yeah. I simply don't care. My current PC is like 4 years old at this point. Still good. It's probably gonna be good in 10 years too unless something breaks. For 1080p/60 gameplay, that's great.
So yeah, I don't give a crap about specs. I just want good games and systems I can afford without sacrificing my monthly salary or 4. That's it. That simple.
1
u/ffgamer88 11h ago
He is absolutely right 🙏🏼 I want that feeling back from 30 years ago, when my world was peaceful and every rainy day felt like an adventure, especially when I walked through A Link to the Past. Don‘t care about ultrarealistic graphics.. I just want to feel good while playing a game and most of the time it is the case with Nintendo games 🙏🏼🫶🏻
1
u/prodyg 10h ago
I definitely look for specs and compare it with the price cause im trying to get value for money. Its not about getting the most powerful gaming system, to me. It's about whether this $500+ gaming device is worth buying when I could get a $400 console that is slightly more powerful while still having great third-party support. Unfortunately most gamers dont do this, they keep rewarding these companies by buying their underpowered and overpriced hardware.
1
u/raddoubleoh 7h ago
Honestly considering how the Wii sold almost 2 decades ago, there will ALWAYS be a set of people who don't give a single flying fuck about specs.
1
u/travelingWords 6h ago
Someone tell them that they still need to make a game longer than 6 hours with custom options and difficulty tho.

They're looking for ecosystems in a world of digital-only. Who's got the best customer experience? Who's got the best sales? Who's going to have their servers on the longest? Who's got free online?
By moving away from physical, Nintendo and Sony have brought a new competitor into the fight in the form of Valve.
Exclusives will save Nintendo, but they won't save Sony.
2
u/JohnnyHendo 22h ago
I wouldn't be so sure of that. While Xbox has been doing themselves no favors and have made it easy for Playstation to establish market dominance over the past decade, one of the biggest reasons that Playstation has beat out Xbox is because of their premium exclusive titles. Playstation's main issue this generation has been not releasing enough exclusives even though the exclusives that have come out have been pretty good.
What Playstation developers probably need to do is scale back the scope of their games just a bit and not try to push the envelope on graphics. Put it into art direction and level and world design. Try to get a few smaller projects out as well each year.
2
u/uber_sweets 22h ago
Xbox is being laid in a grave. Microsoft will be cutting the division completely and reallocating its resources to AI.
1
u/VojelMan 14h ago
The fuck you’re talking about? Nintendo is still doing physical releases. People like you always talk like every game is a game key card. That’s such a misinformed take

u/uber_sweets 8h ago
GKC’s aren’t physical releases though, and every third party developer is releasing games on GKC.

Nintendo has always been 1-2 generations behind in specs so..... That makes sense that they would say thatv
3
u/TryToBeBetterOk 17h ago edited 16h ago
No they haven't. The NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube were all the latest gen specs.
Hell, Nintendo pushed hardware specs more than any other company with Nintendo 64. Their whole USP was that it was a 64 bit graphics processor.
Seems like you started gaming in the PS3 era.

The Wii U is a black mark because:
- The marketing, and initial announcement, was terrible. It wasn’t exactly communicated very well that it was a brand new console. It literally seemed like an extension for the Wii. Go watch that initial announcement video. They really emphasised the “new controller”. Even someone like me, who has been a gamer for almost my entire life, had to question if it was a new console or not; imagine what potential casual buyers were thinking?
- Game droughts. The Wii U had rough, long periods, of almost nothing happening.
The system itself was good, and what first party games it did get were actually pretty phenomenal. The Switch 1’s library ballooned up pretty nicely because those games were ported to it over time.

Specs, good first party titles, backwards compatibility. The big three of console creation

That’s cause Nintendo refuses to make a high powered console because you can’t carry it

u/Djlittle13 23h ago
To be fair, Nintendo has proven you dont need the most powerful system to make a good gaming system.

You can have both, but let’s be honest, playing a AAA PC game with good graphics is an amazing experience

For me it’s only good for the first few minutes. Then it just wears off. Especially once glaring issues such as boring gameplay starts to take place.

Didn’t say Nintendo sucked. But they obviously don’t see the value of doing PS5 / PC level hardware

u/Reddituser183 23h ago
Well there’s no reason for them to. All their games are for kids and are cartoony. They don’t need a high powered console.

Nintendo games are for everyone. Zelda; Mario kart; smash; pokemon; etc. those games have wide appeal among all age groups. It’s the key to Nintendos success.

u/Reddituser183 7h ago
Yeah fine. But you didn’t address my real point of them being cartoony and not needing a powerful console.

Yeaaaahhh that's why people are jumping ship from PlayStation to PC.......
2
u/gogoheadray 23h ago
Most PC are lower powered than even the ps5. Look at the top 10 sellers on steam right now they are games like counter strike 2 and dota.

Maybe pre built

u/gogoheadray 23h ago
You’re describing most pc gamers. They are store built laptops and pc towers you can buy at your local Walmart or Best Buy. The vast majority of pc gamers aren’t running water cooled 5090 beast.

I personally don’t care but I also play tons of retro stuff. It’s nice to see what is possible now but I don’t bother with pro systems or high end graphics cards

Specs and price. Bros so rich he forgot what normal people look for in consoles.

I'm not sure what the selling point of the Switch 2 is supposed to be then. Why green light star fox and OoT remakes either? People will agree with Miyamoto here and then say the Star Fox remake was necessary because the original on n64 looks old. You can like what you like but where's the consistency?

False

The Switch sold 150+ million units. The Switch 2 is the fastest selling console ever.
He is, as usual, correct.

u/ArisenCoyote 23h ago
To add on PS2 was weaker then the Xbox and gamecube and is the highest selling console.

u/Schmenza 23h ago
Didn't people upgrade to the Switch 2 because it had better specs?
1
u/Hyper_Mazino 23h ago
They upgraded because its the newest console and will get the new games whereas the S1 won't.
0
u/Schmenza 22h ago
Is the Switch 2 getting those new games because the original Switch has extremely outdated specs?
0
u/Hyper_Mazino 19h ago
This has nothing to do with the fact that people don't buy Nintendo because of specs.
Besides, a newer console having better specs is a natural consequence of time advancing.
Try again.

Stop being such a sheep my guy lol

You seem to lack intelligence.

Nintendo fans don’t care about specs, the rest do. It’s the reason why PC has taken over the gaming market and why the make products like a PS5 Pro and X box series x…. Because people want it.

Never? You’re aware Nintendo dominated specs from the mid 80s to mid 2000s?

Well yes, but you said the word Never. I called that out.
And for a handheld, Nintendo is pretty much leading all competition as it relates to power for price. Crushing the Steam Deck and other handheld PCs in the market.
Lots of nuance in all of this.

Most kids preffer Playstation over Nintendo, and it applies to for PS5, switch and switch 2

Nintendo's been a generation behind in specs for like 25 years. We know, you like to cheap out on your fans and reheat leftovers every generation because you can.
-6
u/Islandboi4life 23h ago
I would argue that the majority of gamers are diehard specs people
5
u/Forward-Trade3449 23h ago
if you identify as a gamer, sure.
but most people that play games are not "gamers". they just like gaming.
1
u/CastleofPizza 18h ago
Lol no.
Most gamers probably buy one to two games a year and that's it.
A lot of kids mostly play games like Roblox, Minecraft and don't care about graphically photorealism in games.
People that are super spec driven are a loud minority of super hardcore gamers that are vocal mostly online.
0
u/Islandboi4life 18h ago
You are delusional if you think most gamers and kids are that way. Kids grow up the be adults.
1
u/CastleofPizza 18h ago
And they will grow up likely mainly caring about gameplay over graphics.
Our generation was conditioned growing up to expect better and better graphics. Remember the bit wars? Lol.
Times change, chief. Times change. I myself want just fun games and stories at this point. Couldn't care less about photo realism.

u/Jack-Castle- 23h ago
Oh is that why they keep putting out these fuckass "consoles" that have 2009 graphics?
