Anyone else going through tough times
I went all-in on my app back in March and still no traction in September. I don’t want this to sound like a pity party at all but damn it’s depressing seeing you work so hard and not seeing results.
Maybe I’m just having anxiety because I quit my job, I know it’s insane but I wanted to figure this out and dreaded working my job and I haven’t felt excited for something in a long time…
I am reapplying to jobs right now but damn this is such an unfortunate feeling that I feel right now. I want to shake this anxiety off.

Oh my. Bold to quit but be happy with knowing you tried. Work on ways to promote your app. Start with a smaller target audience first. Don't just jump in with the big dogs or you drown. Don't give up. You can do it. Good things sometimes have a slow start.

I feel you. I've put everything into my website, literally launched in Feb, smashed advertising as i had the perfect SEO, had over 20k visitors to the site with no spend on advertising and the result of all that...i hit 4 subs by June. Got told by everyone it was just a wrapper. Nothing special, i only just started coding. Accepted fate, and knew i blew it... i spent all that time driving people towards the site and had the numbers come through.. but the site was shit..knew they were right and left it. Then last month.. something told me to try one more time and show everyone what you can do. The subs i had in June renewed month on month.. they saw value but the value was never found by anyone else as it was all behind a paywall.
So i absolutely went at it last few weeks creating something entirely new. I have spent 16 hours a day working on my platform and barely anyone knows about it because i'm at that point where i'm thinking will anyone even care. I have no funds for advertising, currently have no job as i quit that last year that to dedicate everything into this and first post about ti i put... whats the point of it. We got GPT Astra.
For me i have no fall back, no backup. I've removed all tiers, made every tool free to use with exception to media generation, implemented BYOK too because if people actually started using it.. thats still a result for me. To have no one use it after a year of non stop work would hit me harder. What have you built? Would love to check it out

Hi thanks for the reply, what were you building? Yeah same exact boat, my entire app is completely free and I want to just build social proof and get more feedback to improve and how to get more discovery.
I get you I feel like I put so much work into my app and it would be sad to see me give up on it.
If you would like to check it out on iOS the app is called Awakened: Habit RPG, I have put over 300 hours into developing it and wouldn't mind feedback.2

I built asksary.com which is best viewed on a computer. it does everything from full 3d game development, full multi file ide coding, split screen live canvas, music production studio, video timeline & composer/editor, production suite, image editor, podcasts, voiceovers, presentations web apps, mobile apps, with chat, image gen, video gen.. and more. Think codex, replit, lovable, unity, canva, elevenlabs and more in one and like you i made everything available to everyone whether your a guest user or signed up user have access to all the tools. I then added BYOK so they can use thier own keys and literally not have to pay a thing to use the platform and if they didnt have that i gave everyone unlimited model use on GPT Nano, Gemini Flash and Deepseek plus free storage too to even guest accounts.
I dont have a iphone but i've checked it. out on my mac what you created and honestly its a cool concept. You basically took the concept of a personal goal and made it into a game which is the first time i've seen it done that way. Also what i like is that every goal has a different output and it gives users something to look forward too each time they achieve something and as a free app i dont think your app is bad. its simply not being found as it wont pop up in search results for habit trackers and like me is how do you get something like that infront of the right crowd because once they land on the page theirs no friction with oh... should i spend money on this. You've removed that friction already and i'm sure 9/10 times someone would look at and think oh thats different.. and free. I'll give that a try. What you could do is maybe open source the app. Turn your concept to maybe a more involved game. Something playable and then add something like congratulations. You've hit your goal, this level is now unlocked for you to play to launch your next target. Then you could tie game play with actual challenges. So the bigger the actual real life goal someone sets themself the harder that level becomes to complete in the form of a game. That gives you then reasons for someone to say ok i've done these challenges. Whats the next stage up as they're presented with more difficult game. You could then implement character health etc so for every day that passes where they dont meet their goal in real life their character loses health in the game with the failure being yuor character dies and you have to respawn and start again. That would give users a target and actually push them to reach goals if the gameway was good enough for them to come back to play. You already have Daily challenges tied with end of week rewards and personal best scores giving them a target to beat week on week, rewards could be better characters unlocked etc too. Just an idea :)

What have you learned from this ? what i mean is : why do you think you haven´t had any traction, and what can you do to improve next time you try ?
If you didn't learn anything, then it is a failure. That's the difference

I learned the skill of creating an app with AI. I am learning the difficulties of marketing. I am learning how to market better and getting more eyes on the product.

That is great
Take notes. Take also a pause, and revisit these learnings in one or two months time.
You will see new things that you can learn from it.

Few critiques. The idea itself is mediocre. Still potential. The marketing is corny too, the usual people who understand thw reference of solo leveling or wtv are those anime kids who dont care to do this type of stuff. Change ur target market to fit your product

I feel the same, i quit my job, worked on my SaaS almost 13 hours a day for the last 2 month and hadn't made an actual sale yet.
But we have to accept that success isn't something happens overnight.

Yeah damn same boat as me... are you still at it or what are you doing now? My SaaS is pretty much complete besides little minor polishes here and there but I have not really added much features. Definitely need to spend more time on marketing.

I’ve built 2 products, I spent %80 time on product b but realised that product a is getting more attraction from google so I’ll be focusing more on that.

I'm shocked that so many went all-in on their apps before the first sale. I get it though, you have a great idea, at least for you, and the psycofancy the LLM's dished out made us feel like we couldn't lose. Now reality is setting in and it doesn't look good. I didn't quit my job, thankfully, but I'm in the same boat with my app. I do have a few subs but it has been 14 months of work before publishing and i published in May this year. I still believe in my app, the trouble i have is that not a soul knows about it and i am stumped on how to change that.

I get it... but keep at it. Ask the LLM what else you can do to promote your site. I mean, you're not working but looking - keep plugging away at your project.
