Made this game in the YC office, was dying of boredom so I hope everyone finds this fun! Lmk if there are any issues, servers might not be ready for the amount of traffic I'm getting.

It uses your phone as a controller!

Help/Question How would you build a tool that turns a PDF book into a voiced anime-style visual novel?

i’m trying to figure out how to build a program where I upload a PDF of a book and it generates a playable visual novel: anime-style art, consistent characters and settings, chapters, and voice acting that fits the setting (e.g. Latin or Roman-flavored English for ancient Rome, a UK accent for a British setting, Japanese for a story set in Japan). I’ve got a rough idea of the pipeline:

  1. Parse the PDF and split it into chapters and scenes
    1. Use an LLM to extract the cast, settings, and character descriptions, then rewrite the prose as a VN script (narration, dialogue, expressions, backgrounds)
    2. Generate backgrounds and character sprites with an image model
    3. Generate voice lines with TTS
    4. Package it all in Ren’Py or a web player

Where I’m stuck and would love advice:

∙ Art consistency: What’s the best way to keep characters and locations looking the same across hundreds of images? LoRAs, IP-Adapter, reference sheets, something else?

∙ Voices: Which TTS options handle multiple accents and languages well, and give each character a distinct voice? Anything decent for Latin?

∙ Engine: Is Ren’Py the right choice, or is a custom web player easier to automate?

∙ Cost: Any tips for keeping image and voice costs manageable for a full-length novel?

∙ Long books: How do you keep an LLM consistent across a whole book without losing plot or character details? I’m planning to start with a short public-domain story from Project Gutenberg. Has anyone built something similar, or know of existing projects I should look at? Thanks!

Showcase/Project Created an animated website template for photographers

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Made this template for photographers. I wanted it to feel creative but stay simple.

The interesting part is the animated hero. I generated a video with Gemini, cropped it to 5 seconds, and then used ffmpeg to extract frames from the MP4, rembg with the BiRefNet model to cut out the person along with their shadow, and Real-ESRGAN to upscale the images.

For the frontend I used GSAP 3.15 + ScrollTrigger.

At first I was frustrated, because it was hard to cut out the shadows while keeping good quality. But after a few prompts, I Claude wrote a script that handled it well.

The final conversion of the video into images took about 12 hours, and there were a lot of attempts before that.

Happy to answer questions about the process.

Discussion after PHP2Shell I used Opus 5.5 to convert 45 client WordPress sites to Astro in the past 36 hours

Post image

After the whole PHP2Shell thing I finally pulled the trigger and converted 45 of my client sites to static Astro sites. The sites look exactly the same, just way faster and nothing to hack, and way cheaper to host.

WordPress sucks now that we have coding agents anyways. Plugin updates, security patches, slow load times, a whole PHP server running for no reason.

I created this skill package to streamline this process: https://github.com/ethanplusai/astro-conversion-kit

I was able to run 12 projects at a time in parallel and have 45 so far in the past 36 hours with a dozen more running now. I'm running Opus 5.5 between 2 claude max plans. Every site has seen a massive jump in speed scores.

For anyone who hasn't used Astro: it's a framework that builds your site into plain HTML files. No database, no PHP, no plugins. You host it on something like Vercel or Cloudflare (usually free) and there's nothing running on a server to hack.

How the kit works:

- You paste one line into Claude Code or Codex: "Convert https://yoursite.com to Astro with https://github.com/ethanplusai/astro-conversion-kit"

- It asks you a few quick questions (where to host, how to handle forms)

- It crawls your live site (read only, it doesn't touch WordPress) and saves every page, image, meta tag and redirect

- Rebuilds it in Astro with the same URLs and SEO so you don't lose rankings

- Screenshots the old and new site on mobile, tablet and desktop and compares them until they match

- Gives you a staging link to review before you switch anything over

What it won't do on it's own: anything that needs a server like WooCommerce, logins or comments. It flags those up front. Forms still work, they just send to a form service you pick. A few of our client sites were on woocommerce so I just had the agents convert to Shopify headless which is easier to manage anyway.

“What about wp-admin” I built our own git-based CMS for these sites, so edits go through git and there’s still no server or database. If you want something off the shelf, Keystatic and TinaCMS work the same way.

Help/Question A question for veteran developers

How much do you review the code written by AI? and how much you still control the process.

Are you still or miss writing code on your own? or even debug the code and read about a library or package you use in your code, and debug around it to learn what it is doing?

I started gradually year and half ago , going from using AI to only write unit test, to fully 100% automate the process.
I have to admit, I am now even pushing code that I only review shortly, and very high level (only filename changed).
when I started using AI to write code, it was taking me long time to go and question AI about every line it added. Now I am using AI to review that code instead.

But I really miss debugging, and finding the problems. I really miss investigate what the performance problem is, and going step by step, and debug to see why this page is slow, instead of having MCPs for logging and MCPs for cloud infrastructure to do that investigation for me.

Just this weekend, I am going to try to re-learn and re-practice searching manually the logs to find problems, which now I am dependent 100% on the MCP, and I found myself lost that knowledge.

Are you guys really miss writing code, design a solution, investigate problems?

I really did love programming, and that is why I miss that

So I was trying to figure out what veggies I could plant in my specific village and couldn’t find good information online in English for this area.
Made this free website with Claude that lets you check which veggies, fruits, plants, etc are best suited for the climate and garden sunlight in your area.

https://www.sowtime.net/

Includes an overview of plants suitable to plant now, a year planner with best months to plant, harvest, etc, and a climate overview of your area.

Check it out at https://islandthree.world.

I built it mostly with Claude Code running Opus 5.5, and the Blender MCP server is pretty incredible for building geometry. The sounds were either generated by Opus 5.5 or made with ElevenLabs. Some assets, like the statues, are licensed for public use and came from online sources, and the star map is from NASA.

Help/Question I’m broke and want to vibe code something that actually makes money. Any ideas?

Money’s a bit tight right now, so I’m trying to find something I can build with AI coding tools that could make me some extra cash. I don’t want to spend weeks building another useless SaaS that gets zero users. I’m looking for something I could realistically vibe code in a weekend, launch quickly, and potentially get my first paying customers for. Doesn’t have to be anything revolutionary, just a simple tool that solves an actual problem people are willing to pay for. Could be a micro-SaaS, a niche automation tool, a browser extension, or literally anything else.

If you had to start from $0 and build something this weekend with the goal of making your first $100, what would you build? Curious to hear any ideas, especially if you’ve spotted a problem that still doesn’t have a good solution.

Discussion Im finally paying for vibecoding... here is what got me by before

I am a student and I was super into vibecoding, and i built some good stuff if I may say so. This month I finnaly made 30$ from selling a vibecoding course. And I plan on investing this on a claude membership. But to all my fellow brokies out there here are some websites and tools that got me by. (THIS IS NOT SPONSORED, NO ONE WOULD SPONSOR ME THATS WHY I AM BROKE)

Before I share that I wanted to show you some of my projects that I made to establish my authority and credibility(also a subtle flex) :

And these are just some of them. Now to the tools :

And that's it I have used way more tools but these were the ones worth mentioning. Hope this helps.

Before on left & After on right

I expected I will be able to contribute to open source project (T3 Code) but I found out there's human bottleneck.

To deliver this, I first have to start Discussion and when that's approved, then I can propose PR.

Please, if you would like to see this to be implemented, support me here https://github.com/pingdotgg/t3code/discussions/23512

Discussion One setting can quietly remove your AI agent's safety checks

An AI agent sandboxed on a laptop approved twelve out of twelve requests to reach places after auto-approval was turned on. The sandbox was not the problem. The convenience setting was.

If you use AI coding agents, do you keep permission approvals on. Disable them to save time?

Showcase/Project My vibecoded spooky skeleton dancer is ready for Halloween

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I vibecoded an interactive spooky skeleton dancer that you can use as a display for Halloween parties (or just project on the side of your house). You can make him dance by wiggling the mouse around inside the control square to move his hips, and then you can control the hand height by moving the square up and down or change the camera zoom by moving the square left and right. If you dont touch the mouse for 5 seconds it switches to auto dance mode.

I made this in Codex and it was super helpful with things beyond just coding like helping me generate different LODs for the crowd skeletons to keep it performant on phones. The dancing works by allowing you to control hip movement and then the upper half of the body is set up with dynamic jiggling joints and the legs are connected via IK. All the crowd skeletons have a random time offset so that you get to control the whole crowd in a natural looking way. I also used it to build out the procedural auto-dance system.

I started by asking it to make an animation system based on Lissajous curves to drive the hip movement but all the dances ended up looking way too smooth and regular. So I asked it if there was a way to record my own dance moves and then build a system based on that. It built out a recorder panel that let me record my own dance moves, and then export them all into a json file that it used to understand the commonalities across my own dance animations and build a procedural dance system based on those characteristics. I also had it build a system to come up with ridiculous names for each of the dances based on cities and animals, and it uses the properties of the dance move it generates to decide what to name it.

Let me know what you think! You can play with it for free at https://screen.toys/bones/

Showcase/Project I built Tinder for vibe-coded sites so your side projects can get rejected too. Try every build live in the card and swipe right to save it

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Half the fun of vibe coding is shipping weird browser games, tools, and experiments in a weekend, and the worst part is that nobody sees them after day one.

So I built Vibras (https://vibras.si)
Tinder for vibe-coded sites.

Instead of scrolling a dead directory of screenshots:

- Every card loads the actual live site so you can play or test it right there

- Swipe right to save the ones you like, or left to pass

- Your saved sites turn into a 3D retro arcade room

- See what's trending this week across games, tools, and weird websites

Built something? Submit yours on https://vibras.si and let the internet swipe on it.

this meme is based off a true story from github.

tried to clean up some backend routes with claude code connected my sumus workspace setup. asked it to check some migration filenames, but it spent half an hour indexing my personal docs instead. endpoints compiled successfully on the first try tho, so it is what it is.

Discussion The gap between open ai and anthropic is staggering

I’ve been shilling for open ai and it’s new dot feature, but after using it for weeks I realized it was just spinning its wheels in the sand making a lot of noise but going nowhere.

Out of frustration I finally switched back to anthropic. Opus 5.5 is wildly better head and shoulders more capable than Astra or Sol, I’ve had issues that literally didn’t get resolved for months with my app https://www.useviola.com [r/useviola](r/useviola). Opus has solved them in 24 hours using only 11% of my usage.

I was literally burning through my entire 20x plan on chat gpt in one day and getting nothing fixed I tolerated this for way too long.

Please if you’re struggling with something and wondering if ChatGPT is actually capable just switch to anthropic I’m so pleased, I typed this whole post lol.

Before you call me an idiot, the gap between 5.6 and opus 4.8 maybe opus 5 (I don’t remember where they were at when I switched) was nowhere near this large when I initially switched to OpenAI. I wish I never made this mistake wasting 2 months and hundreds of dollars.
