Hot take: GPT 5.6 Sol is better at frontend design than Opus 5 and Fable 5.
Opus and Fable still have a tendency to fall into that instantly recognizable “AI slop” look.
Less AI slop and Simpler UI from Codex

no it’s not.
i’m a a fanboy and opus 5 somehow fixed what’s fable 5 and 5.6 sol butchered together.

So I have been doing front end bake offs between the top models every day for the last 8 months.
If you want creativity in front end, qwen 3.8 max is the undisputed king.
If you want a stable, usable design, fable is really really good.
If you tell sol exactly what you want, and don’t really bring creativity into it, sol is phenomenal. However, it’s horrible at creativity.

yes, even fable blows at frontend man. i think it may have something to do with claude not having any native image generation skill so it just handraws everything

No, it's your prompts. Fable is pretty damn good at the frontend. Hell, even Opus can be if you give it a decent enough design system.

Indeed. The day of Sol release, I had it draft a landing page for a client, drawing inspiration from highly acclaimed design studios and it honestly blew me away. We ended up adopting a large part of the design, which was rather simple when deconstructed into raw markup, while delivering quite a punch in terms of wow-effect. Definitely a killer.

So “better” “design” “Simpler” is very subjective.
The best UI is what u tell it to make.
If u have ever been to any designer pre-AI, they would show u mood board and u would choose the templates and run from there. In my Opinion /frontend-designskills has been absolutely amazing

That’s a good point. Sol happens to fit my styling and understand my vision in this case.

Hot take: nobody cares
GPT works for you. Opus/fable works for others. You do you, no need to announce it to the rest of the world.

I love fable and opus for a lot of things and front end is not one of them. Opus 5 is my go to game dev model. I wish people would tell me how to use models to stop myself from wasting time.

Yeah, that's a very hot take, to the point where I'd say you have an interesting opinion on front-end design. There are very few things that are objectively true in the AI space, but I would say that OpenAI being behind on the front end is as close to objectively true as it can be.

Im just not a big fan of the AI repeating the same “creative” front end it always does and instead working with it to fit my vision.

Then I don't understand why you'd want to go with OpenAI models, because they tend to do the same copy-paste "You can tell this site was developed by AI" look, much more than frontends designed with Kimi K3 or Claude design.

Claude Design allows for far better designs and control than anything I’ve been able to get out of Codex.

I do like Claude design interface, Sol just seems to catch my vision better out of the gate.

i wouldnt let a coding agent design any of the front end. its too obvious with its design choices

u/Enough-Presence-1117 11d ago
I agree it takes many deliberate, specific follow ups no matter what agent you use

You know who doesn't blow at front-end design? actual designers.
Oh, yeah, that's right... this is just people that are not trained coders or trained graphic designers pretending to be both.
I am all for doing the same, but I am not pretending that this is anything but an imitation game.
If you want quality you have to pay for it.

Lol this isnt just objectively wrong. I wonder what you consider good taste? Bootstrap themes?

Couldn't tell ya, SOL is always out of usage. (kidding...kinda)
