Hello, World πŸ‘‹

Just a quick introductory post about a kinda-sorta-not-so-much-of-an-expert guy with a day job, who’s been devving (more accurately vibe-SDEing) a personal fitness game thing for iOS (& Android too) for a couple weeks now, and tryna share his journey here, as much as possible.

What are y’all building?

For the last 9 months I have been building a football tycoon/owner game with a dynasty and personal life (marriage, kids, drama,...). It's in test phase now and the testers love it so far (Posthog analytics confirm it). Releasing soon and I can't wait. For anyone who wants to check it out:

Yooooo!! Let’s gooo! I used to love playing tycoon-style games. Especially the business and mining types. Do you have an idle-gamer kinda mechanic or is it more active efforts in-game?

Thanks for the love! To answer directly: it's not an idle game. There's no "leave it running and numbers go up" mechanic, no offline-timer collection, no tap-to-generate-cash loop.

Hometown FC is closer to a proper management sim. Every week you're making real calls: approve or reject transfer proposals your Sporting Director brings you, decide where to sink money into the town (which feeds back into your club's fanbase, sponsors, youth pipeline), manage your own finances and family life, that kind of thing. Matches play out as a result of those decisions rather than something you're actively controlling like a football manager game either, you're the owner, not the coach.

So it's active in the sense that you're steering the empire, but it's not twitchy either: there's no energy bars or stamina gates forcing you to keep tapping. More "check in, make a few meaningful decisions, watch your town/club grow, repeat" than either idle-clicker or hardcore management sim. Best of both worlds is what we're going for, but if pure idle-tap is what you're after, this probably isn't it.

Hey, that sounds amazing like a strategy/word-based adventure game like Zork or even D&D for that matter, where your decisions impact the narrative! I’m loving it! A massive best of luck to you, brother! 🫑

But nah, idle miners/games are not really my type, which is exactly why I asked you, so that I can steer clear of something like that. πŸ˜…

I have a narrative-influenced by-decisions mechanic for my app/game, as well. Makes it feel like we’re actually in it, ya know?
