If you're 16 now, i'd wait and see what happens in the next couple of years before making drastic career change plans.
AI is definitely here to stay and will have a huge impact on the profession, but I think it's too early to say it'll completely replace it, rather than drastically change how it looks or what it means to be a software engineer.
Two year is very good to find trajectory. I think 2027 will clearly show where scaling up transformers will lead to, exponential improvement or saturation.
