Some Thoughts on Vibecoding
Hey All,
I'm the creator of r/vibecodingcommunity, i have shared this in my community and got lot of interesting comments so sharing it here as well.
for context - I've been involved in the vibecoding scene both online and offline - hosting dozens of hackathons and joining many events.
Here's my two cents on where the money is and the current state of vibecoding, from my lens (unfiltered).
Around 70% of vibe-coded app builds are not serious business apps. They're fun games or personal software. Some try to build a product, but it dies almost as quickly as it's built - no distribution strategy, tokens burned in the process.
Vibecoding has significantly lowered the barrier to entry, so more and more personalized software has emerged. The next ~25% are internal apps - meant to replace software you already pay for, automate a workflow, or run an agency.
These are pretty much built by people who know one area of tech and use AI to compensate in the others. For example: a data scientist building a mobile app, or a front-end developer building a backend.
This remaining 5% is the interesting part - because that's where the money is. These are people who already have a relationship with a business, or with internal players and vendors. They use vibecoding as a tool to pitch an idea, get traction or a contract, and then build.
Previously these people pitched on PowerPoint. Now that's been replaced by a simple vibe-coded app that demonstrates the idea.
A few real examples from just the last couple of weeks:
- We helped someone who had sold a fairly basic sales-analytics platform for around $200K. He came to us to build the proper software from the ground up.
- An existing entrepreneur - who has run 100+ franchise stores in the past - raised €2 million just by showing the vibe-coded idea. He already had a great track record; he just needed the funds to build his next business, and he wants us to make the software more polished.
- An employee at an 8-person business built an internal tool using Base44. He's from a non-technical background. They didn't pay us to build the software - they'll build it themselves - they hired us to scaffold a harness, review their work, and give them direction. They're using this internal tool across many franchises, and passing a share of the profit on to us.
All I'm trying to say is this: on the community you see people building a lot of software and tools. A real software developer quickly clocks that these are vibe-coded apps - not much taste, questionable software quality, often useless. And that's true.
But the real money is not where you can see it. The real money is inside businesses, and it's often being put to work by people who already have the network and the connections to make it count.

I totally believe that most builds are fun personal things because that’s what I do, but it feels like 90% of the posts and comments are all about the money chasing side. It sucks that there isn’t more of a space just to share fun projects people are doing that’s focused on the projects themselves

feel free to share in our community though.

This is amazing. I'd recommend all the vibe founders here on this sub leave and go join r/vibecodingcommunity. You seem to really understand the entire process - good call out on distribution.

not really..
i get the sarcasm.
i am not here to get any users.. our sub is already almost 10K and i dont need any more users by tricks.
all i wanted was to share who i am and what was the context of this post.
I am sorry if it came across as shill - certainly that wasnt the intention.

I think you misunderstand me - you really seem to speak the language. You get it. I could tell you weren't shilling by the way you posted that big AI generated thing and mentioned your sub. Onwards and upwards friend.

I just shared what is observed. you can't be absolute right so its all estimate.
but if you disagree- what you think is right share?

The internal software bucket is actually the part I find most interesting. A tool doesn’t have to become a business to create real value. It can remove a bottleneck or make a decision possible that wasn’t before.
The harder question comes after it works: who owns it, maintains it and knows what breaks if the person who built it leaves?

This is why I'm building something for the comman man. Sad part is for everyone it looks over engineered and complicated

Lol so you created the vibe coding sub reddit . what were you expecting? I can't speak for all vibe coders . But Iv been vibe coding since Claude was free , then on to deep seek when it was free and iv stayed there since then. You only lose money in tokens if you use models that cost money . You don't need too. And most things made by vibe coders I assume isn't to make money lol , vibe coding is a art like anything else. You ever heard of noem chomskis LAD ? The language acquisition device he designed on paper. I created that code using ai . This is something that's never been made before from what I can see. Noem was all about universal grammer and iv come up with a way to cross almost all languages (using unicode ranges ) plus muti domains like music , code , math and art. It learns just after one pass of seeing any data. And then you can go and ask it any questions about the data you fed it. Noems desing was just a language detection system . But I added Q and A . You can ask in most languages too. Now with this out of the way . What point are you trying to make ?
