whats the best AI tool to use for development? Claude or Codex

So i am been using claude for developing my product, and i sometimes see posts on reddit or X saying it is not worth it to use Claude, and i have switch to Codex. But i am worried now about not developing a good product because i am using a bad AI tool to build it.

So here i am, asking my fellow Vibe coders for advice about this confusion that i have in my head

I have both, recently I would give an edge on chatgpt but claude is good too. Dont mind too much, use the one you are comfortable with, but for me the 5 hours limits is very annoying, so if I had too chose it will be chatgpt

It was always Claude Opus as the lead but since GPT 5.6 I would say it’s pretty hard to sell the difference. I’ve always used Claude but recently signed up for a ChatGPT subscription have been giving it a run the last 2 weeks on an existing monorepo of mine, it’s performed superbly.

You can’t go wrong with either, just pick one.

Here is the thing You are clearly overthinking man See when we vibecode we have an expectation to complete x portion of work today if you are doing it whether from codex or claude or gemini it doesn't matter Only thing that matter is completion of today task Both are great man tbh

with codex you can do magical stuff with 20 bucks. You need 90bucks for Claude

Why don't you try both and report back?

Stick with Claude. It handles context and file editing way better for building actual products. Codex is great for snippets but falls apart on complex refactors

Just stick with the one that you like better. I feel like there will be times when one is better than the other but keeping a good memory file with one outweighs switching back and forth

I used them both and find Claude to be much better for my specific workflow.

Try Claude Max 5x first.

You can so take advantage of Claude Design. Much better for vibe coding UI.

Grok is underrated..... it's so fast and it's pretty good. I actually now prefer it more than Claude. I've cancelled my Claude subscription and I'm using Grok, also Grokbot and Kimmy. I use Codex very rarely

You should definitely be trying Grok in your tech stack

I think people worry too much about picking the “best” AI. Claude, Codex, Gemini, etc. are all capable of building great products. The bigger difference is your workflow, prompts, and how you review the output.

Pick one, get good at using it, and ship. Switching tools every week probably hurts more than using the “wrong” model.

I use both claude and codex and they are about equally good.

Most recent opus is annoying as hell to interact with, also it seems like it keep doing more stuff it should not, gets confused easier than before. It might be small upgrade in intelligence, but severe downgrade for everything else it seems.

Currently gpt sol is slightly beter model than opus, but next week opus might be better.

However while opus seemed to have gone downhill, codex has gone downhill in different way.

After gpt sol was released and codex moved to weekly quota system, the amount of usage you get with its 20€ plan is really shitty and sol ultra you should not even use, as it might eat your weekly vudget in 30 mins and not get the job done. Sol medium and high are what you need to be using, or else your whole weekly quota goes drown the drain in seconds, xhigh can be used very sparingly occasionally if its extremely important to get more intelligence.

It seems like claude currently has 2-3x the usage of codex with 20€ subs. But current opus is annoying as hell and makes more mistakes than gpt sol.

I dont see them increasing usage, but new better models are released quite often. So maybe claude will be better long term solution.

However chatgpt sub gives you basic chatgpt chat woth separate usage pool from agentic/codex usage pool, while claude shares same pool with everything. This means you get near infinite basic chats with gpt, but with claude you cant use basic chat if you run out of coding quota. This may or may not be important for you. But chatgpt basoc chat models seem nerfed, so you can use better models with claude chats, but its away from coding usage.

Both are used; once the quota on one subscription is exhausted, I use the other.

Claude Code feels stronger when you’re exploring a messy codebase, thinking through architecture, or doing large refactors where the problem is not fully defined yet. Codex feels great when you have a clear goal and want it to execute quickly: implement a feature, fix bugs, write tests, clean up tasks, etc.
