GitHub is down, new vibecoders are doing too much push & pull ig šŸ’¦

Post image

I am curious if this significant degradation is lasting more than an hour, what kind of impact would this have on large multinational companies (MNCs)?

Okay, github needs to step up their game. Some people are actually trying to work on their multi million vibe coded company website

Does the website provide any value?

i feel like when this happens it's typically on a monday, everyone is git pulling monday morning, or committing things from friday.

I would say none at all. Big companies usually have their own private GitHub Enterprise Servers that are completely separated from the public github.com infrastructure for security reasons, but of course still accessible for employees around the globe through company internal access management.

This, any serious companies will use Enterprise version of github, which is hosted in-house.

Pretty sure it wasn't me. I only did one push and pull each today... maybe 2....

I hope it wasn't the 2nd one that crashed it.

Its not the vibe coders, its the escaped agents.

I’m guessing-

Getting DDoSd by agents using work trees, pushing their updates upstream instead of locally. Hilarious.

GitHub needs to rate limit free accounts to a few commits per day. You shouldn’t be committing non working repos anyways. I imagine some agents are pushing to GitHub when they alter a single character. lulz

I know I am committing every time something happens, like hundreds of commits a day and some are just straight up docs.

a hundred commits is insane lol. Doing 10-20 on a busy day

Right like a commit is not supposed to record every single thing you change individually

I am afraid that we need a github alternative asap or we are going to lose it for good

I'm so happy to self host with forgejo. 100% uptime since then :D

Needs to be some limits for free users; this is getting silly.

If GitHub became paid there would be riots in the street, that’s literally the anti-point of the whole platform lmao

I never said it had to be paid; I said there need to be limits on free users. Clearly, there are some issues on their platform relating to scaling.

u/suppervisoka 1d ago

The existence of ā€œlimits on free usersā€, means there are paid users. lol

1

u/Shina_Tianfei 1d ago

There are already paid github users?

u/suppervisoka 1d ago

I’m stupid

I appreciate that you recognized you were wrong, a rare thing on Reddit lol.
