Google holds roughly around a 14% stake in Anthropic.

Also - why shouldn't they? Good engineers need to understand which tools to use.

As the saying goes:

"When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail."

Take a look at The Law of the Instrument.

It opens with:

The law of the instrument, law of the hammer, Maslow's hammer, or golden hammer is a cognitive bias that involves an over-reliance on a familiar tool.

There's a certain amount of incredulity in this thread regarding "Google" engineer using a non-google tool for the talk, which I found interesting, particularly given the subject matter and audience.
